Snapshot Week 5 Term 4
15 November 2019
Student Safety
As we head towards Christmas, and the streets around our school become
even busier, it’s a timely reminder for all families to be mindful of traffic rules
and regulations. We have orange school crossing flags located on the Emu
Crossing, opposite the Alexandra Avenue entrance to the school, and the
Koala Crossing on Grant Avenue is controlled by lights. All motorists should
obey the 25 kph speed limit within the school zones.
Traffic police have been contacted
regarding recent reported incidences of speeding
motorists, and are now actively monitoring traffic
on both Alexandra and Grant Avenues. Please be
mindful that the Kiss and Drop zone is just that….it is
illegal to park and leave your vehicle during the
drop off and pick up times.
Our Grounds person is becoming increasingly
frustrated by the lack of consideration and
disregard for parking regulations by motorists
when they choose to park across this driveway.
He needs regular access to this entrance and it is
also the main access for emergency vehicles.
Congratulations Michael Porter on his appointment as our new Assistant
Principal.

Room 18—PMA Maths Challenge Winners!
In Term 2 and 3, Room 18 worked hard to organise a
Pop-Up Shop that would help raise money to buy
new sandpit toys. Our Central Idea was: We can be
active citizens in our community. We explored the
idea that we were being active citizens by helping
our school community. We linked all our maths
learning (as well as other learning areas) to this
project and entered our documentation into the
PMA Maths Challenge. We were state winners for
Reception Year level and attended a presentation
night, where we were presented with an award from
the Minister, John Gardner!
End of Year Concert
This is Room 4B rehearsing singing and dancing for the End of
Year concert to be held on Thursday 5th Dec starting at
5.30pm.
Special Performance!
Room 3 string students made a special impromptu
ensemble performance to play Happy Birthday for Mrs
Hopper on 12 November! Well done to everyone.
2020 Student Leadership
Year six students returning in 2020 have been busy drafting applications for leadership
positions vacant in 2020. Positions up for grabs include 8 Student Representative Council
position and 8 House Captain positions (two per house). Each applicant has been
reflective, and used persuasive devices to carefully craft written pieces highlighting their
commitment to their academic, social and extra-curricular achievements, for consideration
in their quest for a successful appointment next year.
In the last few weeks of term, 12 highly motivated, principled students will be announced as
the leaders chosen to guide Rose Park Primary School’s cohort through 2020.
Being on SRC has improved our public speaking extensively because of the services,
assemblies and meetings that have encouraged us to be brave and express our opinion.
Being a leader has also helped us gain an understanding before making a decision, so we
can make a informed choice. We’ve also become aware that we no longer are
representing ourselves , but are representing the whole school. Being a large group of SRC’s
means that we have to cooperate and have to dialectically think before communicating. Emily H & Claudia B, Year 7 SRC
Year 6/7 Digital Technologies Rotations in Inquiry
Central Idea: Digital technologies are shaping our future
Year 6 and 7 students have been participating in a series of hands-on digital technologies
learning experiences. The rotations are designed to develop knowledge, skills and
understanding; and critical and creative thinking through a range of learning activities. Here’s
what each of our upper primary teachers focused on during their rotation:
Mr Cubbin – is exploring coding using Sphero robots
Mr Hutchinson – explored the use formulas and graphing in Google Sheets and MS Excel
Mr Lygo – is inquiring into the implications of autonomous vehicles and coding Ozobots
Mr Michell – students are creating animations using Scratch
Mr Porter – is creating and coding a working pedometer using the BBC MicroBit program
The students’ summative assessment will culminate in a collaborative digital presentation
detailing the effect of the rise of an aspect of digital technologies on people, the economy
and the environment.
For the past few weeks, the year 6/7 students have been doing digital technology
rotations. I really enjoy the rotations because I experience five different topics with five
different teachers and each teacher teaches a different thing a different way. So far I have
done Micro Bits, Scratch, Spheros, learn how to do advanced things in Google Sheets and so
far I have enjoyed all of them. Hannah A, Year 6
SAPSASA Cricket
Lucy A and Lucy L competed with the Eastern Metro team this week in
the SAPSASA State Cricket Carnival. Eastern Metro won the tournament
and were undefeated in all seven of their matches. Congratulations
Lucy and Lucy!
Sprint Lesson with Mr Schutz
On Monday 11th November, Ella K from Room 11 participated in an
early morning running training session with Mr. Schutz.
Ella trained very hard and had lots of fun learning about the
correct running technique.
Ella’s comment: I learnt to make my arms straight and to run on
my toes so I can go faster. I enjoyed when I
sprinted.
(head straight, knee lift and on her toes – wow!)
2019 Sports Day
Congratulations to all our students and staff
on a fabulous day! Sportsmanship was
exemplary, and fun was had by all.
We thank our Premier, Steven Marshall, for his
