Chance Livar - Caption Head Spirit of Atlanta is thrilled to add Chance Livar as Colorguard Caption Head for the 2018 season. Chance has served for five years as Director of the WGI World finalist Black Gold, whose creative and exciting show designs have won the WGI Fan Favorite Award for the last two years. Chance performed for two years with the Boston Crusaders and has served on staff with both the Boston Crusaders and more recently with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps.

Chance has extensive WGI performance experience with the Ars Nova Winterguard and Black Gold Independent World Class Winterguard, having been to WGI World Championships ten times. Mr. Livar is currently in his second year as the Texas Christian University Colorguard Director and is teaching and designing for multiple high schools in the DFW area.

Walter Jackson - Assistant Caption Head

Joining Chance as Assistant Caption Head is Walter Jackson. No stranger to the Marching Music's Major League, Walter first began marching with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps in 2012-2014 and then went on to join the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2015 and 2016. Walter has performed for six years in WGI, first with Redemption and then Black Gold Independent World Winterguard. Walter is currently in his fifth year teaching at Wylie High School in Wylie, Texas, and has previously worked with several other award-winning programs in the DFW area.

Colorguard Technicians Assisting Chance and Walter as technicians on staff will be James Womack, Oscar Martinez, Otis Berry, Elijah White, Dane Chung, Kellie Overton, Michael Acosta, Josh Swain, Christina Treffer, Elain Fite, and Michael Cabrera

James Womack is a Houston, Texas native who marched two years with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and two years with the Boston Crusaders. James is currently in his second year working as a Staff member for the Black Gold Winterguard, where he serves as the Manager for the organization. Joining James is Oscar Martinez, who currently serves as the Manager of the Black Gold Independent "A" Winterguard. He has

performed with Ars Nova IA Winterguard and Black Gold IO Winterguard, and aged out as a Colorguard member of the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2007. He has also served as the Director of C h a p i n I n d e p e n d e n t Winterguard and co-director of Adagio Independent.

Otis C. Berry III is a native Houstonian who has been dancing for twelve years and joins the staff as a dance specialist. Otis trained at Eisenhower High School, and advanced his craft at The Houston Metropolitan Dance Center with amazing artists such as Marlana Walsh-Doyle, Kiki Lucas, Jhon Stronks, Kerry Jackson, among others. Otis furthered his studies at Sam Houston State University’s Dance Department. The corps is excited to bring such a talented dance artist onto our instructional staff.

Elijah White is an alumnus of the Spirit of Atlanta Colorguard, having marched in 2012 and again in 2015. He has also performed Paramount World Winterguard, the Santa Clara Vanguard and aged out with The Concord Blue Devils in 2016. Elijah lives in Atlanta and is currently co-directing the North

Paulding HS guard program. Also new to the staff this year is Dane Chung. Dane has been a performing member and staff member with Black Gold Independent for ten years, where he has served as both technician and choreographer for the group. He currently teaches several high schools in the DFW area.

Kellie Overton began her DCI performance years marching with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2015 through 2017. She is presently a cast member o f B lack Gold Independent World Winterguard. Before joining Black Gold, Kellie performed two seasons with the Univers i ty o f Houston Spi r i t Independent World Winterguard.

Michael Acosta started his career in the dancing arena at an early age and attended the Houston Ballet Academy. Michael has performed as a member of Nouveau Winterguard and the 1988 DCI Champion Madison Scouts. Michael has served as Artistic Director with Nouveau Winterguard and is the founding creator of the Redemption Guard Independent. Michael currently

consults Houston area colorguards and bands on their visual and technique (body and equipment) programs as well as adjudicating from time to time. Josh Swain returns from the 2017 staff and is an alumnus of the University of Florida. Swain has worked with renowned programs in the drum corps activity including the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets, Genesis, Music City, The Cavaliers, and most recently, Spirit of Atlanta. His instructional and design credits extend to several WGI/BOA finalists and multiple high school programs. Josh currently is the director of the Cherokee High School Guard and

Dance Programs and leads both the design and instructional staff teams for the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is an active adjudicator for marching band and winterguard competitions across the country.

Christina Treffer is excited to return to the group where her drum corps career started! Christina performed with Spirit in 2013 and 2014 before moving on for two years with the Blue Knights. Christina performed with Black Gold Independent World from 2015-2017, where she was a captain in 2016 and 2017. She has taught and choreographed for Stephenville HS and is currently on staff with Black Gold. Elaine Fite joins us a former staff member of the Seattle Cascades. Elaine marched with the Black Gold Winterguard from 2000-2004 and then again from 2009-2010, where she served as Captain from 2009-2010.

Elaine also marched with The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps and Rhapsody Winterguard. Elaine lives in Seattle and currently teaches and choreographs for groups across Washington, including Central Washington University, Rhapsody Winterguard, and Snowflake Lane.

Originally from Scottsdale Arizona, Michael Cabrera has done extensive training and performing in both the ballet and modern

e n s e m b l e s a t t h e S c o t t s d a l e Community College. Michael was a performing member of the eXaltation Independent Winterguard from 2001-2005, Santa Clara Vanguard in 2003 and Fantasia Independent World Guard in 2007 & 2008. Michael is currently the Director of Colorguard Studies at Red Oak High School and is celebrating 12 years as a private camp specialist at MA Dance and Auxiliaries.

Toby Leikness - Consultant Joining Spirit this year as a consultant, Toby Leikness is a designer, technician, and clinician. Toby performed with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 93 to 96, and Every-Body Winterguard from 95-97. Toby has taught programs around the country, including Every-Body A, Every-Body World, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, the R2 Performance Group, Americas Independent Winterguard, Sarajevo Winterguard, and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. Toby is currently in his 14th year at Frisco High School in the DFW area.
