At this conference our students learnt about what makes a successful leader and the qualities associated with excellent leadership. We are looking forward to our leaders using these new strategies they have learnt in our school setting and continuing to develop their own unique leadership skills. Our thanks to Mrs Rouse and Mrs Kilduff for accompanying our leaders on this excursion. Good luck to our Netball team who are playing Corindi Public School in the 3rd round of the PSSA knockout competition on Monday 5th June at Woolgoolga. Our thanks to Mrs Pope for coaching this team. Good luck to all of our students who are participating in next weeks’ Grafton Eisteddfod which is being held on Tuesday and Wednesday at South Grafton High School. Our school has entered into a number of items including Dance, Choir, Band and Verse Speaking. Students who are participating have received a permission note which needs to be returned by Monday 5th June. Our thanks to the following staff who have prepared our students for this Eisteddfod: Band - Ms Edwards and Miss Grayndler, Choir - Mr Tapp, Verse Speaking - Mrs Rosnell, Mrs Coombes, Mrs Pope and Mrs Walters, Dance - Mrs Gillett, Mrs Thompson, Mrs McIntyre, Miss Carter and Miss Amanda. Please read the permission note carefully to ensure our students are fully prepared for the Eisteddfod. Good luck South Grafton Public School. Congratulations to Isaac Barker who competed last week at the State AFL Carnival. The North Coast team won 4 out of their 5 games and finished 5th, which is a great achievement. I received a fantastic email from the coach of this team this week which I would like to share: I am the North Coast Australian Football coach - a role I have been privileged to hold for the past 14 years. However this year I am compelled to write to you to share my admiration and awe in regards to players/students who represented your school. Whilst 2017 state championships provided North Coast with a record equalling 5th place amongst all of the other 13 regions represented as a result of 4 convincing wins and 1 hard fought loss, this is not the main purpose for my email. One student from South Grafton PS, Isaac Barker, was an integral member of the team. His mature, positive and growth minded attitude in all aspects of the North Coast team from training weekends and throughout the championships was unequalled in my experience in this role. He is an absolute credit not only to himself and his parents but also your school. Thank you for playing such an important role in developing these great examples of Public Education. Yours Sincerely Dean Burkitt - North Coast PSSA Australian Football Coach I returned Dean’s email thanking him for his coaching of this team and recognition of Isaac who is also an outstanding School Captain and role model at our school. This is reflected in our school ethos where we expect our students to always perform with integrity and respect, as competition is not always about winning. Good luck to our Paul Kelly Cup boy and girl AFL teams who are participating in this competition next Wednesday 7th June at Coffs Harbour. Our thanks to Mr Zacek and Mrs Pope for coaching these two teams. Our school initiative ‘GOT IT’ program continues to run with great success this term. Thank you to our ‘GOT IT’ team and our parents who are participating in this program. Our school has the opportunity to run this program again in Semester 2. Our thanks to Ms Small for her leadership of this program.

Students from our Primary campus have been delivering a range of excellent Multi Cultural Public Speaking topics to their classes. The quality of the presentations have been excellent and congratulations to our students and staff on their excellent preparation. The finals of this competition will be held on Friday 9th June in our Primary hall and the winners will then compete in the Grafton finals to be held at Westlawn Public School on Thursday 15th June. Our thanks to Miss Carter for her organisation of this activity. Mrs Buckley and I will be adjudicating our finals, which we know will be a very difficult task due to the high quality of our students’ speeches. This week I have surveyed our students regarding our school homework procedures. Next week I will be surveying our staff and the following week I will survey our community for their feedback on our current homework policy.

Please continue to check our diary dates as we have a number of upcoming activities and many of our students are receiving a variety of permission notes to support these activities . Your prompt reply to these notes is always appreciated. Please keep a close eye on our Facebook page which highlights the wonderful activities our students are involved in. We also utilise our Facebook page to inform our community of any last minute changes to activities.

Have a great week Peter Hickey Principal
