In This Issue

Trane and Tampa Bay Trane have been selected by Strategic Property Partners (SPP) to design and construct a new

district cooling plant that will serve the Water Street District in downtown Tampa. The district cooling plant is a key part of the $3 billion dollar investment being made by SPP, which is a partnership between Tampa Bay Lightning owner, Jeff Vinik and Cascade Investment, a personal wealth fund for Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The plant will have an initial capacity of 8,000 tons, but is being built with an eye toward future capacity expansion. In addition to reducing the overall operating costs of SPP’s buildings, the central chiller plant eliminates the need to put large and unsightly cooling equipment on the roofs of the project thus making these spaces available for recreation and outdoor restaurants.

The Plant will be located on the corner of East Cumberland Ave. and S. Nebraska Ave. adjacent to the Selmon Expressway on-ramp and will serve 9 buildings, including the Amalie Arena and new USF College of Medicine. The plant will contain one Trane ice making chiller and two Trane chilled water chillers, 98 Trane-Calmac Ice Storage Tanks, Aurora pumps with Trane variable frequency drives, Alva Laval Heat Exchangers, Marley Cooling Towers and a Trane Tracer Chiller Plant Control System.

Tampa Bay Trane was responsible for the installation of the underground chilled water piping system which began in late 2016 and is now complete. TLC Engineering is the chiller plant’s mechanical design engineer; Creative Contractors is the General Contractor and Blume Mechanical the mechanical contractor.

This 3X increase in size has allowed us to bring many new services to the market. Trane Residential Systems is now under the same roof – with over $2M of single-phase equipment in stock ready to go. In addition, this full-service facility features a training center, conference rooms, and open office space. Most importantly we have much more inventory! We have gone “full line” in this expanded operation – pipe, fittings, diffusers and registers, ductboard, unitstrut, ACR copper – we have what you need. Come see how Trane Supply can be your “one stop shop” in Pinellas County.

Trane has been shipping the small, compact Agility Chillers in the 175-425 ton sizes for three months now. These machines are perfect for the replacement market where the ability to move a machine into a tight existing equipment room is of paramount importance.

The Agility Chiller line provides a reliable direct drive, multi-stage machine that is designed to fit through a 72” x 80” double door with zero disassembly and can fit through a single 36” single door by separating the unit into two factory designed pre-packaged sections. The Agility chillers provide competitive efficiencies but are not the most efficient machines in Trane’s broad lineup of chillers.

Agility Chillers offer excellent noise reductions compared to equivalent sized screw compressor machines.

Agility Chillers are now shipping on an 8 week production cycle but many sizes and voltages are available in packed stock in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Please contact your Trane representative for assistance with your chiller replacement needs.
