W HAT a fantastic start to the year it’s been for Greenbelt and all our customers with even more residents choosing to join the Greenbelt family. We’re hardly into Spring and already an astonishing 2300 new households have joined us in 2016, meaning we can now bring our quality, sustainable, open space management services to more people than ever. In fact, for the first time we now care for more than 47,000 households on hundreds of developments all over the UK. Our Cranmer Gardens, Kings Gate, development in Leeds boasts a great range of Greenbelt’s signature features: mature specimen trees, knee- rail fencing and hedgerows, with an open area of species- rich meadow grass, ideal for wildlife. Meanwhile, our Marina Park development in Northampton, with nearly 200 households, offers beautiful open spaces, mature tree groupings, wildflower areas and new shrub planting. We also welcomed more than 160 households on our Middlestone Moor development in County Durham, featuring areas of standard trees, a play area and a managed retaining wall alongside the development’s existing farmland track. Our other all-new developments include Woodside Chase in North Yorkshire, which features four designated areas for play and a beautiful woodland compartment with a footpath for a convenient route for elderly residents or those with prams, and Scholar’s Rise – also in North Yorkshire, this comprises 273 households. Our Becket Manor development in Deanshanger is a great example of our passion for trees: alongside the existing woodland areas and mature trees, we have new planting of young woodland that sets it apart. On our Brewery Lane development in North East Hertfordshire, where we took on 110 new households, is a canal, with an adjacent path, planting along the waterfront and three viewing platforms. Our Towles Pasture development in Castle Donington is a quiet, peaceful site with its open space designated for play. Arundel Park, meanwhile, features meadow grass and wildflower pockets, and Waterloo Works boasts fully sustainable solar lighting columns and bollards. Households added to our existing sites Church Fields, Balgarvie Farm and The Limes make up the remainder of our new residents for the year so far. WHAT a fantastic start to the year it’s been for Greenbelt and all

our customers with even more residents choosing to join the Greenbelt family.

We’re hardly into Spring and already an astonishing 2300 new households have joined us in 2016, meaning we can now bring our quality, sustainable, open space management services to more people than ever.

In fact, for the first time we now care for more than 47,000 households on hundreds of developments all over the UK.

Our Cranmer Gardens, Kings Gate, development in Leeds boasts a great range of Greenbelt’s signature features: mature specimen trees, knee-rail fencing and hedgerows, with an open area of species-rich meadow grass, ideal for wildlife.

Meanwhile, our Marina Park development in Northampton, with nearly 200 households, offers beautiful open spaces, mature tree groupings, wildflower areas and new shrub planting.

We also welcomed more than 160 households on our Middlestone Moor development in County Durham, featuring areas of

standard trees, a play area and a managed retaining wall alongside the development’s existing farmland track.

Our other all-new developments include

Woodside Chase in North Yorkshire, which features four designated areas for play and a beautiful woodland compartment with a footpath for a convenient

route for elderly residents or those with prams, and Scholar’s Rise – also in North Yorkshire, this comprises 273 households.

HAVING well maintained open spaces can help promote physical activity and positive mental wellbeing.

Regular physical activity contributes to the prevention and management of many health conditions, including coronary heart disease.

Meanwhile, our emotional responses to nature include feelings of pleasure and often a reduction in anxiety.

Children, in particular, who

enjoy access to safe, open spaces and dedicated play areas are more likely to be physically active and happy.

Outdoor play encourages brain development and good health through adulthood.

That’s why at Greenbelt we actively encourage our homeowner customers to take full advantage of your local environment for exercise – whether that’s an invigorating run on a spring morning or

simply a short walk with the family on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

This summer we will be launching an exciting campaign to help you make best use of your open spaces for fun and exercise.

If you have any ideas and suggestions for your own development, we’d love to hear from you! So please do get in touch using the contact details overleaf.

GREENSPACE MODEL WE CAN BE PROUD OFIT MAY be unfashionable in business, but at Greenbelt we believe you can actually please everyone all of the time – so, even though it was just a single homeowner of the 47,000 who enjoy our services who challenged the land-owning greenspace model we use, we knew we’d have to prove just how this model benefits all our customer residents.

Great news! We’re pleased to confirm the subsequent decision by Lands Tribunal for Scotland states: “As an attack on the land-owning model per se it has failed.”

The case applies to Scottish residents only but is a welcome validation of our greenspace model – it is the right result for you: all of our homeowner residents who opt to benefit from

our services by choosing to buy a house on a Greenbelt-managed development. On specific points challenged by the single applicant, including erroneous claims of monopoly, unfair restraint of trade and being anti-competitive, the challenge has entirely failed.

Greenbelt has argued the benefits of greenspace on your behalf over a number of years, within political, government, legal, media, and local forums – the decision is testament to the determination and tireless work of Greenbelt, our staff and our contractors . . . and of course, you, all of our customers who choose Greenbelt.

Forced to deal with misinformation online, as well as non-payment from a small minority,

we have worked together to safeguard your services at all times. As the Land Tribunal points out: “The model has corresponding advantages in the way of relieving the house owners of all the inconvenience of looking after the open ground themselves, including the holding of meetings, the appointment of factors or landscaping contractors, the monitoring of their performance and so on, with the risk of potentially damaging divisions among themselves to which these matters can give rise.”

The Greenbelt ethos is stronger than ever and we continue to offer the sustainable, value-for-money, high-quality service you tell us you are happy with.

SPRING has sprung and the growing season is well under way for

Greenbelt’s green-fingered enthusiasts all over the country.

We believe it’s vital that the next generation also shares our passion for nature – and the art of gardening, in particular.

Gardening teaches youngsters all about the natural world.

They can learn about the cycle of the seasons, how sunlight helps plants and why soil needs nutrients and water.

They can also find out about the importance of earthworms and other beneficial insects – as well as how to deal with unwanted pests without harming the environment.

In addition to offering another form of physical exercise, it is both fun and productive for everyone.

And when it comes to growing their own fruit and vegetables, it teaches children all about the value of good nutrition. After all, not only does a garden provide fresh produce for the table, it teaches the importance of fruits and vegetables in our diet and encourages young growers to eat them!

That’s why this summer will see Greenbelt’s first dedicated gardening campaign designed specifically for children and young families.

Grow With Greenbelt aims to help Residents Associations and local schools all across the UK to ‘grow your own’.

There will be expert advice from our team of horticultural experts. There will also be opportunities to order your very own ‘Greenbelt Grow Boxes’, which contain everything youngsters need to begin their new adventure in nurturing nature.

Make sure you visit our website regularly for updates on Grow With Greenbelt and how you too can become involved.

Grow with Greenbelt TAKING good care of your home, your world, your future has never been more secure with the news Greenbelt has agreed a brand new funding deal with Nat West.

We’re now in the perfect position to provide the sustainable land management solutions that are so sought after by our homeowner customers.

Thanks to the deal agreed with partner Nat West, our medium-term funding requirements are now in place – which means that all our homeowner customers, right across the UK, can look forward to enjoying our high-quality services for many years to come.

The year ahead will see the opening of a brand new office in the Midlands as Greenbelt continues to promote our brand and increase our profile, bringing our skills, experience and knowledge to a wider residential development market.

We very much look forward to enjoying an excellent partnership with Nat West . . . and all of our customers.

Chief Executive, Alex Middleton
