President’s Report I begin this report by announcing that it will be my last as President. I have served two two to three year terms as President and I believe that in order for the Club to continually grow we need some fresh new enthusiastic people to take on Committee roles within the Club. I am very proud of our Club and what we have achieved in the last few years.

Cricket is ultimately the game we play and we have been reasonably successful on the field. We had four senior sides and four junior sides compete in the last season. Our Under 10 team did not play for premiership points but they had a wonderful year. Out of the remaining seven teams playing for premiership points six made finals. Three teams played in Grand Finals and two came away with the flag! A wonderful effort.

There are many many people I would like to thank. Firstly, Jon Huddart. Thank you for your guidance and coaching throughout the year. At times it can seem a thankless frustrating job but your individual tutoring and sculpting of our teams has help develop some impressive individual and more importantly team successes. We immensely appreciate the amount of time and energy that you bring to the Club.

I would also like to thank all our Captains, Vice Captains, Scorers, Team Managers and the many other people that help out on game days.

A massive thank you to Clayton, our Junior Co-ordinator for your assistance and support throughout the year. It was an enormous task organising our junior players and Clayton put in many, many hours every week.

Last year one of our main objectives was to become more financially secure. We have achieved that goal. Then we agreed that we needed to become stronger as a Club. We did that also. Next we wanted success. Jon has steered us towards this goal and I am confident that we can win next seasons A Grade competition which will see us enter a higher division.

Cricket aside one of the most satisfying things our Club has achieved is the level of support we have given to various foundations and/or charities. We have donated in excess of $24,000.00 in the last four years. None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for the tireless amount of work from the committee, in particular Mick and Snuff. I appreciate all the work the committee members do but these two guys always go above and beyond what is expected of them.

This year our Ladies' Day supported beyondblue. We had a lovely guest speaker who delivered a very emotional talk about her personal battles with anxiety and depression. It was an amazing day and all the ladies had a wonderful time.

We are very fortunate to have some great sponsors for our Club. A big thank you to Amanda (TSS), Rob and Juliana (Rainwise), Brendan Ryan (M & S Insurance) and all our other sponsors.

Our car show was bigger again this year and has put our Club on the map. It is the talk of the car shows throughout Victoria.

For all the good fun times we can have at the Club life can change so quickly. Around Christmas time we learned the horrible news that Ryan Doidge had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Ryan and his brother Kingsley are both Life Members of our Club and over their careers they both played in Premierships, Captained sides and took on roles in the Club at Committee levels. It was towards the end of the season that we along with the Coburg Districts Football Club ran a fundraiser for Ryan and his family. It was one of the best days I have been involved in and together we raised over

$10,000. Ryan lost his battle on ANZAC Day. Listening to his eulogy and the beautiful words spoken by his family and friends it reminds me of how important my family and friends are to me. So until next season look after yourselves, friends and especially family.

Treasurer's Report The 2017/18 season was considered a neutral one financially, with a loss of $10,405.

This loss was partly due to the $10,000 we contributed towards the new electronic scoreboard. The other factor that weighed in heavily on our non-profit for the season was the unexpected increase in electricity usage. From 25th October 2017, the electricity usage more than doubled. The increase over the top of our normal electricity bill for the season was $5000. We are hoping to recover this excess amount once contributing factor found. Another factor towards the loss was replacing our wicket covers at a cost of $2140. This was a council demand as the existing green covers could possibly burn the grass. We did not have the green covers long before being forced to go to white covers.

The club is proud to support charities that have deeply affected families within the club. A total of $14,850 has been donated to charities and families this season (more than double on last season). These donations were raised by numerous events throughout the season. I would like to thank all those volunteers for their time and efforts at the Carshow, Bunnings BBQ, Grace King Charity match, Ryan Doidge Fundraiser and the Ladies Day.

I would like to thank all the sponsors that supported our club both financially and support throughout the season. Also thanks goes to Amanda Middleton of TSS Group for the donation of children’s entertainment facilities at the Carshow and Christmas party. Also donating the meals for both the Christmas party and Junior Presentation Day.

Thanks goes to our Sainthood members for supporting the club and Bruce Campbell for running it each week.

Congratulations goes to Bushys B Grade team and Shuffles U/12 team for winning premierships for the club.

As my second year as treasurer, I am happy where the club sits financially. We are committed to being successful both on and off the field and are working towards that. The club is in a strong financial position and this will always be our highest priority.

Looking forward to the next season ahead.

Steven Conroy Treasurer

Secretary’s Report I am pleased to present this Annual Report to our members and supporters as a record of the events that have taken place at the St Andrews Cricket Club Pascoe Vale during the 2017/18 season.

Almost every team played finals, with two winning premierships. Congratulations Bushy, Shuffles and your teams for your outstanding year and performing when it counts.

Our club earned more income in 2017/18 than any previous season that I am aware of. While it seems we made a loss for the year, our capital investments ($10,000 for the new digital scoreboard and $2,140 covers) were drawn from cash reserves to give our club more professional facilities.

St Andrews also donated $14,850 to charitable purposes in 2017/18. Do you know any other organisation that has donated over 15% of their total annual income to charitable purposes?

We have supported Ryan Doidge and his family, Crohn's & Colitis Australia research, awareness and support, the Deakin University NABNEC Study into pancreatic cancer on behalf of Grace King, and beyondblue to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety in the Australian community.

Our social events continue to grow in attendance and in quality. The Car Show grows exponentially each year. So many great family-friendly events. And how good was having the shortened award presentations so attendees could spend more time on the dancefloor / get the kids to bed at a reasonable time.

My thanks, praise and admiration goes out to everyone who helped make this such a successful season, including:

● Denis, Mick, Snuff, Stewart, Bushy, Jimmy and Daniel for pushing the club in the right direction and your endless hours of work behind the scenes.

● Coaches Jon, Clayton, Daniel, Denis, Shuffles, Anwar and Brendon for shaping the playing group for success this season and seasons to come.

● Our Sainthood members and supporters for backing us through our successes and heartbreaks on the field.

● Our wonderful sponsors for sharing our dreams to make this club the great place it is to be involved in.

● All the mates we make hitting and chasing a little red ball around a field. ● All our family and friends helping out on match days, training and special events, and for

allowing us to spend so much time at the damn club.

Recruit a mate and let’s get back to the club and make 2018/19 an even more successful season.

Jon King Secretary

Coach’s Report Season 2017/18 can only be labelled as another successful campaign by all involved at the club.

As with the previous season, our goal was to win enough games to for all divisions to make finals, giving the club the opportunity to grab some long awaited silverware!

Whilst we managed 3 sides through to March action, the 2nds were the only team that achieved the prize, with the 1sts falling short in the semi and Macca’s 4ths narrowly being edged out in the season decider. The 3rds, led manfully by Tom M, missed out on finals this year however credit to Tom and 42 players (!) that filtered through the side to ensure we fielded a team every game.

The 1sts season was a little up and down but we managed to grab 2nd spot with some late season outrights. Our new recruits – namely Sri and Usama – had solid seasons with both bat and ball and were valued additions to the side. We again let opportunities slip with the bat within games, none more than in the semi-final where we were right in the game after tea and let it slip away with some poor batting missing the GF berth. The pleasing aspects was the improvement in certain players. Aaron King shifted his cricket to a level that should see him continue to do well in the coming seasons. Jack H’s inclusion at the top of the order, whilst not always successful (by his own admission), gave the team some fast starts and his hard work was rewarded with his best innings of the season in the semi-final.

Bushy and his merry men however, were able to capitalise on the deeds of our post-Christmas import Romesh, by going on with some good early season efforts and demolishing teams late in the year. Obviously it was hugely pleasing, with Romesh n/a in the GF, that all players, none more so than Jayden (7-31) stepped up and got the job done in dominating GF win. Well done to all the players involved!!

Macca and his 4ths will look to saddle up again in season 18/19 and push for the elusive silverware narrowly missed in the past 2 seasons. Big thanks to Macca for the year as every week he chases and hounds his crew to ensure they get the side filled.

There were many individual highlights including just a few below:

● Macca – leading club run scorer – 424 ● Usama – 379 runs and 40 plus wickets (club champ) ● Romesh – 35 wickets in 5 games @ 6 apiece!! ● Jayden – 35 wickets including 7-31 in the GF

Part of the season that can get lost in the rest of the games is the 20/20 comp. We again punched above our weight and gained some great momentum and learnings by coming up against sides in divisions above. We out played – Seddon, Druids and Royal Park and only just falling short against Aberfeldie to miss out on the semi-final. Well done to all that played a game during the 20/20 competition.

As season 18/19 rolls closer we must continue to improve in all facets of the game. Players need to continue to develop and learn to ensure they are getting the best out of themselves for our continued success and push for premierships! Thanks to the president and committee for what was a pretty solid season.

1st XI Captains’ Report Firstly I would like to thank the club for the opportunity to captain again this year. Support from the president Denis, Mick and coach Jon was appreciated and did make the job easier. Also a big congrats to B grades flag win. Great job by Bushy and the team and good to see some guys who played A Grade throughout the year contribute to the win. Again well done skipper. Tom and the C Grade team had a challenging year but always remember tough times don’t last but tough people do. Another great season by Macca and the guys which just fell short but congrats on another good year.

Season 17/18 for the First XI was a mixed bag. Finishing the regular season in 2nd was a decent achievement but failing in the first semi final still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

There was more competition for places this year with a lot more faces new and old playing in the team.

Great to see new faces Usama and Sri play this year. They fitted in well and really performed with Usama taking our MVP and Sri dominating with the ball and chipping in with the bat. Kingy had a great year with the ball and also some great cameos with the bat. Jon had a reasonably consistent year with the bat and dug in numerous times to help the team and eventually taking out the batting award. Unfortunately the majority of us failed (myself definitely included) to be consistent with the bat. The positive is that we weren’t not too far away and the talent is there. Times for the new generation to stand up and really take ownership including Jack Hamilton, Mr 4.2 Jesse Vas, Cala, our redheaded cheating c Rory, Westy and the like to take this place to the next level.

Whilst we won more games than we lost I felt we missed a golden opportunity to take out the ultimate prize this year. Our bowling was great all year but we proved far too inconsistent with the bat which was proven in the semi final. From 4/139 chasing 210 to bowled out for 162 says enough. Losing 6/23, yes 6/23 to lose a semi final, as I said it still burns.

A lot of great performances for individuals throughout the year led by Usama destroying East Keilor, Aaron 7 for vs eventual premiers Deer Park, and Sri 10 wicket match vs Newport with the ball. The odd cameo from Kingy and Daniel with the bat and Willet with the ball early in the season also really helped the team get a few wins. Jon and Usama where rocks of the middle order together and did share some good partnerships during the year. Also great to see Jack Hamilton play all year with a great 50 during the year and good fielding. Really surprised at his improvement and his batting maturity in the final was an example to us all. Great work and keep it up. As a team the final outright win in last round against Newport with Kingy and Jayden taking us home proved a highlight in a tight finish and ultimately outright win which confirmed finals. Rory making runs and getting us over the line was a highlight which hopefully made him feel he belongs and can succeed on turf. Also wins against premiers Deer Park and other finalist Sunshine throughout the year were great wins. We either beat or were extremely competitive against all finalists but struggled against the “lower” ranked teams. That shows at times our mentality wasn’t right and if we can improve than the sky's the limit. We need to be hungrier and hate losing more to take the next step which I believe we can in the coming years.

Ultimately the club played finals again so have to deem the year a pass mark but let's keep pushing so we can take that next step and win a flag. There is going to be a few changes to the line up next year but it's important we as a club stick fat and get around the new skipper in Aaron. There will be some new faces in the team so Aaron make the team your own and I wish you and the team all the success in the future. Also a goodbye of sorts to Andrew Willett and Daniel Di Gioia. Thanks for the years of playing together, cricket too, we have won and lost together but hopefully you have

enjoyed your time at St Andrews. Daniel you can be frustrating but so talented and hope you make your way back to club, and Andrew the club will miss your lion hearted efforts along with always taking your top off. Thanks again to Jon for the support and sometimes robust discussion over the year. The club is in good hands if we can adopt some of his mentality and skill set to cricket.

I will miss the “battle” Benny and the “lick of the ice cream”. It has been fun and frustrating captaining the team over the years but the main sentiment was enjoyment. In a way I will miss Jack’s whingeing, J Vas extreme sweating and talking cricket tactics as well as he constantly being not out, Rory red hair, dealing with my indian friend Sri and Jons occasional sprays. The one regret I have is not captaining a flag but hope the foundation has been laid to help Kingy and the boys to take the team to glory and take St Andrews back to where it belongs. Winning A Grade flags!!!!!!

2ND XI Captain’s Report Wow, what a season!

We started the season off like many others with a draw due to weather and wickets not being prepared in time. So the season got underway in round 2 and wasn’t it a beauty. Like our previous encounters with Maribyrnong Park St Marys it was down to the wire with us getting a run out with 5 balls to spare. St Andrews 10/150 def Maribyrnong Park St Marys 10/144.

Highlights: M Qureshi 31 J Downing 3/20 off 8 J Tapner 3/32 off 8

The following round we all learned how sloppy fielding can cost you a game. We dropped multiple catches and Williamstown CYMS piled on 8 for 296. A hard task and with plenty of new faces in the side we only managed 10/153.

With the dismal performance the weeks previous we wanted to turn the tide and really play smart, aggressive and winning cricket. We did winning outright against West Newport which lead us to 3 out of 4 wins leading into the Christmas break.

West Newport 10/104 & 10/100 defeated by St Andrews 7/241 St Andrews 9/208 defeated East Keilor 10/155 Newport Digman 9/139 defeated by St Andrews 4/151 St Andrews 10/96 defeated by Point Cook 10/167

In these 4 games, individual highlights: M Liyanage – 55 (West Newport) J Bush – 100no (West Newport) J Downing 4/17 (West Newport) M West 71no (Newport Digman) J Blake 4/18 (Point Cook)

After Christmas we were lucky enough to have an inclusion into the side, a young man from Sri Lanka. Romesh joined the side against Deer Park (Rd 9) and had an immediate impact. With figures 6/34 with the ball followed up by a quick 61 with the bat saw us come away with a comfortable win. Romesh’s talent and impact didn’t stop there taking 21 wickets in our last 2 games heading into finals.

Finishing on top of the ladder leading into the Semi Final against Sunshine Height we had great belief we could win and take the next step and play in the Grand Final. We won the toss and I elected to bowl. We bowled them out for 140 a little more than they should have got.

Highlights: R Kaluarachchi 3/25 J Tapner 3/40 S Wallace 2/13 J Downing 2/29

We opened our inning with a major batting collapse ending day one 3/26. Sunday’s start was no better losing another 2 quick wickets putting us 5 for 29 till Romesh and Madu putting a partnership 87 steering us to victory and into the Grand Final.

The Grand Final, what can I say; what an amazing feeling.

To come away with the Premiership in a way we did was sensational. A great team effort with a first innings bowling display by Jayden sealed the game. Highlights: J Bush 46 J Calafiore 40 J Tapner 7/31 & 3/19 S Wallace 4/14 A Micallef 33

I have to congratulate Romesh Kaluarachchi on his bowling and overall performance taking out the Club Bowling Trophy and MVP Award. The Club Batting Trophy went to Matthew West.

In conclusion, I want to thank Jon, Denis and his committee and look forward to seeing you all next season.

One Day Synthetic Captain’s Report The start of the season was always going to be a challenging period with players not available due to different reasons. Our team was able to set up our season before Christmas with some great get out of jail wins. We won some games we should not have won.

After Christmas we started to play well in patches, we were able to keep getting those gold nuggets. We were able to play some kids at different times which was great!

We went through to the finals, had a draw and a win to reach the Grand Final -which is an excellent effort to make it two years in a row. Well done boys, unfortunately we didn't get the win that mattered most.

All in all, a great effort. I hope to see all players return to play next year for our great club. Thanks to all that helped out and played their part in a successful year.
