Dear Friends in Christ, I want to take this opportunity to make you aware of
two deeply troubling legislative bills being considered by the Joint Committee on the Judiciary at the
Massachusetts State House. If enacted into law these proposals would significantly expand abortion access in Massachusetts well beyond
what is currently permitted. To be clear, this legislation goes well beyond the Roe v. Wade decision of the
Supreme Court. The specific details of the legislation can be found
online at https://www.worcesterdiocese.org/bulletin-inserts-letters. With your help, and the help of your
family, friends, and neighbors, we must do everything we can to make sure these bills do not become law in this state. Your voice and the voices of all opposed to
expanding abortion access is critically important and must be heard loud and clear at the State House.
With every prayerful best wish for a Happy New Year, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus
Bishop of Worcester
“Now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his servant from the
womb...” (Isaiah 49:5) God has given us different gifts. For God’s
plan to work, you have to do what God is calling you to do, and I have
to do what God is calling me to do. And God has given us a different
plan! So stop comparing yourself to others. Don’t let envy and jealousy
enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and share
them with others.

Word of Life — January 19 “If someone shared with you she was pregnant and hadn't ruled out having an abortion, would you know how to respond? … When a woman is facing a difficult pregnancy, the reaction of the first person she tells tends to set the tone for her decision-making. How do we respond to our friend in a loving way that is life-affirming for both her and her baby?” Consider the four steps of the L.O.V.E. FAITH FACTS & FUN ACTIVITIES
St. Agnes, Virgin & Martyr DIED C. 304
Feast Day—January 21
Agnes may have
been only 12 or 13 when she died a martyr’s death in Rome. According to tradition, she refused to consider marrying and consecrated her maidenhood to God. When a persecution broke out, she left home and offered herself for martyrdom, probably dying by being stabbed in the throat, a common form of Roman execution. She was buried in a cemetery in the Via Nomentana, where a church honoring her was built about 350. Her name and feast date were listed in a calendar of martyrs in 354. She is the patron of girls.

YOUR SMILE FOR TODAY
Knights of Columbus update Well it's back to business, not that it ever ended. In December, we participated in in both the Sutton and Millbury Chain of Lights. We raffled off Christmas dinner baskets at both events. The Sutton winner was Ann Fattman and Millbury’s went to Vivian Yankee; congratulations to both of them. We also helped in the collection of gifts for the Urban Missionaries Giving Tree, picking up the gifts at all participating parishes throughout the Worcester Diocese. Which now bring us to 2020. We will start by inviting you to join the Knights and thousands of Catholics nationwide in the annual Respect Life Novena beginning Tuesday, January 21 - Wednesday, January 29. Sign up today at www.9daysforlife.com . Also mark your calendars now for our Lenten Fish Fry beginning February 28th. Look forward to seeing you all there. Peace be with you.
Sincerely, Gary Pothier, GK
