RELICS OF THE PASSION

In alignment with the Holy Father’s declaration of

a Year of Mercy, we are pleased to present a unique

opportunity for our community to discover the mean-

ing of God’s Mercy, as given to us via His Passion.

The Relics of the Passion program is being brought

to us as part of a special nationwide tour by the

Apostolate for Holy Relics. The holy and sacred ob-

jects that they have brought here for us are some-

thing that most of us would only have a “once in a

lifetime” opportunity to see once when visiting

Rome or the Holy Land.

Please join us for this special program that high-

lights a collection of rare relics from the Passion of

our Lord from the Last Supper to the Resurrection,

with prayer, music, reflection, and an opportunity for

personal veneration. The program will be held here

at St. Columbanus Church on July 25, 2016 at 7:00

p.m. The program will also be given in English/

Spanish at Church of the Assumption in Peekskill on

July 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE

Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Blessed

Mother’s apparition to the 3 children at Fatima. At

that time, Our Lady told the children to pray the

Rosary daily and offer sacrifices for sinners. If her

requests were fulfilled, the war would end and

sinners would be converted.

St. Columbanus Parish has a statute of the Pilgrim

Virgin, Our Lady of Fatima. We hope you and your

family will open your hearts and welcome the statue

into your home to pray the Rosary with family and

friends.

To set up a date, or for more information, please

call Bobbi at 914-737-1416, or Ann at 914-402-

4374.

VOCATION DISCERNMENT

The Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne invite young

women who are discerning a religious vocation to

join us for a weekend of sharing in our life of prayer

and apostolate in Hawthorne on July 29-31, 2016.

Reservations are required. For information or

reservations, please contact: Sister Alma Marie at

(845) 745-1319 or vocationdirector@hawthorne-

dominicans.org.

DIVINE MERCY FOR WORLD PEACE

Please join us at 9:00 a.m., after the 8:30 a.m.

Mass, to pray the Divine Mercy for world peace.

Only through Jesus, with prayer, can peace be

achieved.

ST. AUGUSTINE ANNUAL FESTIVAL

St. Augustine Church, 381 N. Highland Avenue,

Ossining, will have their 39th Annual Italian Festival

on Tuesday, July 19 through Sunday, July 24 from 6-

11 p.m. There will be a fireworks display on

Wednesday, July 20 (raindate Thursday, July 21).

Come and enjoy the delicious food, rides, fireworks,

casino, games, and much more. For information call

the Parish Office at 914-941-0067.

We welcome Joe Quattrocchi of Good Counsel

Homes. I hope all will be generous in helping

pregnant women and their children. I also hope he

will receive a better reception than our prolife

posters in the back of the church that have been de-

faced. This sick act is representative of the evil cul-

ture we live in.

We continue with the fourth installment of the let-

ter by ROBERT CARDINAL SARAH, from Guinea

is Prefect of the Congregation for the Divine Wor-

ship on the Mass:

The hour has come to listen to the Council. The

liturgy is “above all things the worship of the divine

majesty” (§33). It can form and teach us only insofar

as it is completely ordered to divine worship and the

glorification of God. The liturgy truly places us in

the presence of divine transcendence. True partici-

pation means the renewal in us of that “amazement”

that St. John Paul II held in such high regard (cf.

Ecclesia de Eucharistia, §6). This sacred amaze-

ment, this joyous reverence, requires our silence be-

fore the divine majesty. We often forget that sacred

silence is one of the means indicated by the Council

to foster participation.

If the liturgy is the work of Christ, is it necessary

for the celebrant to interject his own comments? We

must remember that when the Missal authorizes

commentary, this must not become a worldly, hu-

man discourse, a more or less subtle pronouncement

on current events, or a banal greeting to those pre-

sent, but rather a very brief exhortation to enter into

the mystery (cf. General Introduction of the Roman

Missal, §50).

In Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Frank Samoylo
