The Pastor’s Corner

THE 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 11, 2020

FROM FR. CONNEALY

Happy Sunday! We received some exciting news this week. As you know, during July and August we were promoting a matching gift opportunity to increase online recurring gifts. Everything up to $27,060 would be matched in new or increased online recurring gifts. I received a letter this week which said that the donor family was so impressed with our efforts that they are going to match every gift that met their criteria. This means that, instead of $27,060, we will receive over $55,000! I am incredibly grateful to all of you for participating in this gift and to the donor family for giving us this opportunity. This week we continue our reflections on “Catholics in the Public Square”. We will look at questions 7-12 which concern most directly the topic of the booklet. In this section Bishop Olmsted reminds us that “each of the faithful has a call to evangelization.” This call to evangelization is not an option of the Christian life but part of the gift we received in baptism. Evangelization is not merely teaching and sharing the Faith, but living it in such a way that those around us find it contagious. It means growing each day in our relationship with Jesus Christ and living from the truth of His love for us. This is the greatest good we can share. Bishop Olmsted continues to say that “Catholics are especially called to contribute to the common good, to defend the dignity of every human person, and to live as faithful citizens.” Notice that each of these verbs, “contribute, defend, live” are active. The Christian is not a passive player in the public square but active. This can take many different forms, but it is not a passive reality. Therefore, each of us must ask ourselves how we contribute to the common good, defend the dignity of every human person, and live as faithful citizens. The last point I’d like to offer is a quote from Pope Benedict XVI in question 11: “Any tendency to treat religion as a private matter must be resisted. Only when their faith permeates every aspect of their lives do Christians become truly open to the transforming power of the Gospel.” Here we find ourselves back at the beginning of this section. Our faith is meant to become the center of our lives, not merely a part of who we are. It is in this way that the Gospel becomes transformative in our lives. This weekend I am away on my annual retreat. Please keep me in your prayers. I will be back at the parish this Friday and will see most of you next weekend! Know of my prayers In Christ, Fr. Connealy

LA ESQUINA DEL PASTOR

EL 28º DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 11 de OCTUBRE 2020

DE PADRE CONNEALY

¡Feliz domingo!

P. Connealy

BECOMING CHRISTIAN Initiation for Adults—What is it?

For Christians, initiation means falling in love with Jesus and living as His disciples. Through the process of becoming Catholic we try to help people learn how to

respond to God’s call for their everyday lives.

The way we learn to do this is by hanging out with Catholics and actually doing what Catholics do. The process of becoming Catholic is about entering into a way of life as an apprentice learns from a Master and

that Master’s community.

Jesus is our Master and becoming Catholic is a lot like being His apprentices. The process for this

apprenticeship into the Christian way of life is called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (often called RCIA).

It involves encountering the Word of God in the Christian community, worship and prayer

and serving others.

If you are interested in becoming Catholic and responding to God, call or contact

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION…. WHY SHOULD I BE AN ADORER

There are many reasons! Most importantly is to visit and spend time with Our Lord Jesus Christ who is ever present in the Holy Eucharist (also called the

Blessed Sacrament). Like any relationship, what we put in is what we will get back and our Lord is not

outdone in generosity! As a committed adorer you also have the amazing responsibility to keep the Lord

not only company but also safe in the Adoration Chapel Coming to adoration is a perfect way to draw ever closer to Jesus and to intensify our spiritual life. For more information, please call Desiree Schlangen at 763.807.7015 or [email protected]
