Spend time with Jesus at
Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, October 8, from 12—3 pm
Benefits of the Rosary
1. It gradually gives us a perfect knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2. It purifies our souls, washing away sin. 3. It gives us victory over all our enemies. 4. It makes it easy for us to practice virtue. 5. It sets us on fire with love of Our Lord. 6. It enriches us with graces and merits. 7. It supplies us with what is needed to pay all
our debts to God and to our fellow men; and finally, it obtains all kinds of graces for us from Almighty God.
This heart, it beats for us in a small tabernacle where it remains mysteriously hidden
in that still white host.
That is your royal throne on earth, O Lord, which visibly you have erected for us
and you are pleased when I approach it.
Full of love, you sink your gaze into mine and bend your ear to my quiet words and deeply fill my heart with peace.
Yet, your love is not satisfied with this exchange that could lead to separation.
Your heart requires more.
You come to me as early morning’s meal each daybreak.
Your flesh and blood become food and drink for me
and something wonderful happens. Your body mysteriously permeates mine
and your soul unites with mine.
I am no longer what once I was. You come and go
but the seed that you sowed for future glory remains behind buried in this body of dust.
A luster of heaven remains in the soul. A deep glow remains in the eyes,
a soaring in the tone of voice.

September 18-19 Pope Francis in Laudato Si, with his focus on the environment
and global warming, points to the deeper problem: the devel-
oped world's indifference to the destruction of the planet as
they pursue short-term economic gains. This has resulted in a
"throwaway culture" in which unwanted items and unwanted
people, such as the unborn, the elderly, and the poor, are dis-
carded as waste. The Lord hears the cry of the poor… Pope
Francis does state that concern for the natural world is no
longer "'optional' but is an integral part of the Church teaching
on social justice."

‘Planning to be away for an extended period of time? Do you use our collection envelopes?
If you will be leaving the area for an extended
period of time, please let us know 6-8 weeks in
advance of your approximate departure date so that we can put a hold on your envelope order.
Every 2 months, 80+ envelope packets are re-turned to us as undeliverable.

returned to us, but we also have to pay for all of the printing and delivery of all unused envelopes.
Your assistance with this will help us cut our costs

CAPE COD HOSPITAL
CHAPLAIN’S OFFICE
The Pastoral Care Office at Cape Cod Hospital en-
courages parishioners to call the Chaplain’s Office if
they or a loved one are in the hospital. Although
one’s desire for pastoral care is recorded at admis-
sions, occasionally data entry mistakes do happen.
The Chaplain tries to visit every Catholic patient
within 24 hours on the weekdays and within 48
hours on the weekend. If you would like Commun-
ion brought to you or a loved one and have not
seen someone from the Chaplain’s Office, please call
508-862-5287 and ask the hospital operator to con-
nect you to Pastoral Care. Sacraments can only be
given to the living, so call the Chaplain as soon as
possible!
Annual Blessing of the Animals
Bring your family pets—dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, sheep, ferrets,
fish, chicken(?!) or whatever the beloved family friend may be—to the
annual blessing of the animals. We are hosting this special event
in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. Please meet in the church parking
lot at the entrance to the Parish Hall on Monday, October 4,
at 3:30 pm. All parishioners are invited to participate!
base of things. It does not overpower with strength; or physical attractiveness; or worldly brilliance; or with the gifted speech of an orator or an author. While we can behold the God of wonder in all these manifest ways, God first reveals himself in the silence of humility and simplicity and peace – in the silence and vulnerability of a child.”
The child as an audiovisual reminds us of Jesus’ prior-ities. We are urged to have greater kindness and re-spect for human vulnerabilities – urged to participate in humble service of the forgotten, the rejected, the hopeless, the anxious, and the desperate. By wel-coming and tending to the ‘little ones’ among us, we too come to understand the ways of God and the workings of grace in our world.

The Little Ones
There is something in us that admires status, titles, awards, rubbing shoulders with the “in” crowd. We follow the ratings of almost everything – even competing for status in the digital realm – having the most “likes” on Facebook.
The disciples of Jesus were no different. When confronted with the overwhelming topic of Jesus’ identity, they resort-ed to squabbling about which one of them was the greatest – who had the most status, who was the “top dog”. Imag-ine their shock when Jesus held up a child – a ‘no-status’, barely visible being – as the greatest among them! And to highlight his point, Jesus used an unmistakable audiovisual –he wrapped his arms around the child and lifted the little one up for all to see.
There was no mistaking the message – true power and au-thority are all about lifting up the little ones: the most vul-nerable; the least visible; the weakest; those whom society deems of little worth. At this unique moment in history we look to Pope Francis and the many ways he ‘wraps his arms’ around the most vulnerable of our day – and calls us to service. We witness Francis washing the feet of a Muslim woman; embracing a suffering man with an awful skin dis-ease; ordering showers installed in the Vatican for the homeless. Like Jesus, the Pope’s audiovisuals are unmistak-able. Once again in this moment of history, Jesus’ message is highlighted for all to see: “The greatest among you are the ones who serve those whom society deems to be the least.”
Fr. Daniel Berrigan, in his weekly hospice visits to a totally incapacitated little boy, offered yet another audiovisual: “The boy could not speak or move his body, so I would just sit and ‘listen’ to the silence and helplessness of the boy. In this way I come to understand that God’s presence in the world is like that of the boy—it does not overpower anyone or anything. It lies quietly, at the deep moral and spiritual
