November 6, 2011 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME THE ONE WHO WATCHES SHALL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED REFLECTION; A wedding was a major community event in the time of Jesus. The celebration lasted for days. The high point was the arrival of the groom at the house of the bride. There he was greeted with great joy and ceremony by a group of bridesmaids. Ancient literature says that sometimes grooms delayed their arrival. Some even waited until the middle of the night. Their prankish purpose was to catch the lovely bridesmaids unaware. Jesus uses this image to teach the people about His coming at the end of time. It will catch many people unaware. And as a result, they will not be prepared to enter the eternal banquet feast with Jesus. Let our humble prayer be: Lord, help us realise that when we waste our time, we also waste ourselves.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: If Jesus’ second coming were to take place an hour from now, how prepared would we be?

Sunday Readings: First Reading: Wisdom: 6:12-16 Psalm 62: “My soul thirsts for you, O Lord my God”.

Second Reading: Thessalonians 4:13-18 Gospel: Matthew 25: 1-13

FEAST DAYS FOR THE WEEK:

Wed. Nov. 9 Dedication of the Lateran Basilica Thurs. Nov. 10 St. Leo the Great Fri. Nov. 11 St. Martin of Tours Sat. Nov. 12 St. Josaphat

CATECHESIS – SECTION TWO I. THE CREEDS 196 Our presentation of the faith will follow the Apostles' Creed, which constitutes, as it were, "the oldest Roman catechism". the presentation will be completed however by constant references to the Nicene Creed, which is often more explicit and more detailed. 197 As on the day of our Baptism, when our whole life was entrusted to the "standard of teaching",14 let us embra ce the Creed of our life-giving faith. To say the Credo with faith is to enter into communion with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and also with the whole Church which transmits the faith to us and in whose midst we believe: This Creed is the spiritual seal, our heart's meditation and an ever-present guardian; it is, unquestionably, the treasure of our soul . Cont’d . . UNIVERSAL CHURCH The Holy Father's Prayer Intentions for Nov. 2011 General Intention: That the Eastern Catholic Churches and their venerable traditions may be known and esteemed as a spiritual treasure for the whole Church. Missionary Intention: Justice and Reconciliation in Africa. That the African continent may find strength in Christ to pursue justice and reconciliation as set forth by the second Synod of African Bishops.

NOVEMBER – Month of the Holy Souls

Special envelopes for the November soul mass intentions for “your dear and loved ones” are available at the back of the church. What better gift can we offer than to offer a mass for a loved one or a friend?
