A Note from our PastorFather Mark Arnzen
One of the greatest blessings of the Lenten Season for a Catholic Priest is the celebrationof the Chrism Mass that is traditionally done on Holy Thursday morning but for pastoralreasons the Diocese of San Jose celebrates the week prior. It is a great blessing for mepersonally but also for our Church because it is a time when the vast majority of thepriests serving in the diocese come together for a day a prayer and then con-celebrationof the Mass with our Bishop. It was made even a greater blessing this year because ourBishop Patrick, who is retiring this year, celebrated his last Chrism Mass as the shepherdof the Diocese of San Jose. As I was thinking about the 20 years Bishop Patrick has beenour diocesan bishop I thought that as both a seminarian and then a priest I have had theprivilege of taking part in all but the very first one of these holy celebrations...Read full Pastoral notes Una de las bendiciones mayores de la Cuaresma para un sacerdote católico es la celebraciónde la Misa Crismal que tradicionalmente se realiza el Jueves Santo por la mañana, pero por razones pastorales la Diócesis de San José la celebra la semana anterior. No solo es unagran bendición para mí personalmente sino también para nuestra Iglesia porque es un tiempo cuando lamayoría de los sacerdotes que sirven en la Diócesis vienen juntos por un día a la oración y luego a lacelebración de la Misa con nuestro Obispo. The Tenebrae services dates back to the 4th century. It was originallyinitiated as a Good Friday service, but was set up overtime for HolyThursday.
