“It’s A Wonderful Life”

This year our stewardship worship series will be based on the book, “Integrating Money and Meaning; Practices for a Heart-Centered Life by Maggie Kulyk with Liz McGeachy and the classic movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. In preparation for our series please take the time to watch or re-watch the movie on your own or with a group of friends from St. Mark’s. It is free on Netflix and Amazon Prime or if you don’t have a copy of the movie, your neighbor probably does. Creating spiritual practices for how we deal with money invites us to look back, to see with new eyes how and when our values and fears were initiated regarding money.

Our goal in our relationship with money as Christians is stated in “Integrating Money and Meaning” like this, “…we want to be honest and engaged with our money but also spontaneous and trusting; involved but fluid; living in the present moment but not in denial about the future. Balance is possible in relationship to this thing we call money, but it’s not easy to attain. In fact, working on these issues is like holding a knife by the blade. Money will bring out some of the best and worst in us, but this is of course what makes it such a rich and important spiritual practice.” (73)

There will be an optional study guide that will be available for anyone that wishes to do on their own as we work through the series. Again, please watch or re-watch the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” in preparation of our worship series.

Peace,

Pastor Bonnie

Christmas Poinsettias

We will once again decorate our sanctuary with poinsettias for Christmas. Inserts will be in the Sunday bulletins starting in Novem-ber. Please use them to place your order in the offering or get them to the church office by Sunday, Dec. 8th. Thanks!

Adopt-a-Family

The loose change project in November, and giving envelopes in your bulletins in December are some of the ways we are collecting monetary donations for our adopted families. Money is being collected through December 15. The money collected will be traded in for Wal-Mart gift cards, which will then be distributed appropriately to the families. We have been giving gift cards in place of presents the past few years to allow families to purchase what they need. With so many different cultures and family circumstances, this has made it possible for families to create the Christmas that is best for them. THANK YOU so much for how you continue to always be such an outreach oriented and giving church family.

Christmas Cantata

Our St. Mark’s choir will be singing a Cantata for Christmas on Sunday, December 22nd at the

9:00 a.m. worship service.

.

In the event of severe weather, please watch KCRG, Channel 9 for notices of cancellations re-garding church events. According to current church policy, if the Cedar Rapids Public Schools are cancelled, then all church activities are can-celled, and the church offices would have limited staff based on their ability to get to work.
