Society of St. Vincent de Paul St. Daniel the Prophet Conference

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.” Through your almsgiving you are doing the will of the Father and finishing the work of Jesus. Know that your nickel, dime or quarter is multiplied by the coins placed by others in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box.

Is there a family or individual you know who could use some assistance? Maybe they are going through a hard time and need a little financial help, medical equipment, food, etc. If so, please call our Society of St. Vincent de Paul at 312-608-6517, so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

The Tabernacle Candle is lit this week in loving memory of Stanislaw Smalec

THE CALL TO PRAYER Let us pause to take time out for a few minutes of prayer. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to : John Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well. It was about noon. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” —For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.— Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep; where then can you get this living water? Are you greater then our father Jacob, who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself with his children and his flocks?’ Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” Jesus said to her, “Go call your husband and come back.” The woman answered and said to him, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus answered her, “you are right in saying, ‘I do not have a husband.’ for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true.” The woman said to him, “Sir, I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain; but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.” Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You people worship what you do not understand; we worship what we understand, because salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him. God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ; when he comes, he will tell us everything.” Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one who is speaking with you.” Many of the Samaritan of that town began to believe in him. When the Samaritans came to him, they invited him to stay with them; and he stayed for two days. Many more began to believe in him because of his word, and they said to the woman, “We no longer believe because of your word; for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.” Reflection Question: Through the Samaritan woman’s witness, her townspeople welcome Jesus into their village and eventually come to believe he is the savior of the world. In your life of faith, who have been the witnesses who have led you to a relationship with Christ? Group Discussion or Meditation: Say the Our Father Concluding Prayer: O God, author of every mercy and of all goodness, who in fasting, prayer and almsgiving have shown us a remedy for sin, look graciously on this confession of our lowliness, that we, who are bowed down by our conscience, may always be lifted up by your mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

WEEKLY CALENDAR Health Quest - Blood Drive Cancelled. Out of an abundance of caution, we are canceling the Blood Drive scheduled for March 29th. The situation with the coronavirus is rapidly evolving and it is impossible to know what the future will hold. We tried to make this difficult decision in a timely and responsible manner so as to give advance notice to all those involved. Please pray for a quick resolution to the COVID-19 crisis. Pray as well for those around the world who are suffering from the burden of infectious diseases. We have been bombarded by press coverage

concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19). As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Practice the following actions to prevent the spread of any/all respiratory infections:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

• If you are sick, stay home except to get medical care

A SAINT PATRICK’S DAY WISH: May the blessings of each day be the blessings you need the most. Your Parish Nurses

PLEASE MAKE A MEATLOAF FOR THE HOMELESS

Our wonderful volunteers from St Daniel's will be will be visiting the SW Chicago Homeless Services Facility (formerly Known as PADS) on Tuesday March 17th. This will close the season one month earlier than in past years. The shelter has reduced service days to 4 days per week: Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays only. We plan to start up again in October. If you are able to make a meatloaf please drop it off at the rectory by 5pm on Tuesday the 17th. Also needed are large 1 quart cans of gravy, boxes of instant potatoes, extra large bags of corn or mixed vegetables and loaves of bread. Thank You to everyone who made meatloaves and donated gravy, veggies, desserts and also donated clothes and toiletries and other much needed items for the shelter. Your kindness affects the lives of so many people. Also a Big Thank You to all our dedicated regular Volunteers, who have been coming to the shelter for many years. You guys truly make this happen every month. We are also so grateful for the continued generosity of Pticek's and Weber’s Bakeries and Priscella Barry for the delicious baked goods they've provided us for so many years. Thanks again for the support of the Bowen family, you guys were a big help to us. Everyone's caring helped feed many people who otherwise would have nothing. We hope to have your continued support when we return back in the fall. This ministry could not happen without all of you! If you have any questions, please call Gary at 773-919-3192. Thank you and God Bless!

This year St. Daniel the Prophet invited all the scouts from our service unit to join our St. Dan's Girl Scouts in earning their My Promise My Faith pin. Many schools and troops participated, making for a wonderful experience. This year the Scouts focused on the line of the Girl Scout Law that emphasizes being considerate and caring. Without the help of considerate and caring members of the community like Alice Dusek, Dolores Czerniak, Patricia Bruton, Kathy Gavin, and Bernadine Buzzelli we wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Thanks everyone!

Serdecznie zapraszamy do uczestnictwa w Nabożeństwach Pasyjnych.

Każde-go potrzebuje. I wszystkim pragnie dać wody żywej. I dopiero to poczucie bezpieczeństwa pozwala nam wejść w głęb-szy dialog i bliskość z Bogiem. A to pozwala nam odkrywać i akceptować ważne prawdy o sobie i o swoim życiu, zwłaszcza te niezbyt dla nas korzystne.
