Thank you for your continued generosity!

In previous years, the Mass Intention Book for the follow-ing year would become available for booking Masses right after Labor Day. This year, however, we are changing that precedent and we will be opening up all of the 2016 Masses beginning on June 15, 2015.

Interested in becoming Catholic? St. Mary’s RCIA program will start again in the Fall! RCIA is the Church’s program for wel-coming non-Catholics who wish to learn about and join our Church. Fallen-away Catholics seeking to return to the faith are

also welcome. Anyone interested in participating in the RCIA program for 2015-2016 are encouraged to read the Gospel of Luke and Acts of the Apostles this summer, and mark your calendars for our first meeting which will be sometime in September. To let us know of your interest, and for more information about RCIA and adult faith for-mation, please contact Jane Kuklis at the Parish Center, or Bob O’Connell at [email protected].

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY will meet next Sunday, June 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. All skill levels are wel-come. If you have any questions or to request a prayer shawl, call Margaret Lyle

(545-2263) or Nancy Callanan (545-1554).

DONUT SUNDAY - Donut Sunday is back for the summer! Coffee, juice and donuts will be served by volunteer families immediately follow-ing the 9:00 a.m. Mass, from June 28th through

August 30th. You can sign up after Mass today.

PPC ELECTIONS

Congratulations to Sean Flannery, Kevin Krawiec, Tom Mur-phy, Deanna Roman and Chris Young who have been elected to St. Mary's Parish Pastoral Council!

In a vote that was exceedingly close, we welcome all five candidates as representatives.

Thanks to all who participated in the process and those who volunteered to help in our many ministries. We are blessed to have such enthusiasm and support in our parish!

Pastor’s Corner

This Sunday the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, more commonly known as Corpus Christi. The papal bull, Transiturus de hoc Mundo, issued by Pope Urban IV in 1264 made this a universal feast of the Catholic Church. The Eucharistic miracle at Bolsena, Italy in 1263 helped to convince Urban IV to extend the Feast of Corpus Christi to the entire Church. There have been many Eucharistic Miracles throughout the long history of the Church, which usually were given to strengthen belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. This was the case in Bolsena, where a German priest visiting from Prague celebrated the Mass in which the miracle occurred. Although he was pious he struggled with belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. At the moment of consecration the Host began to drip Blood over the priest hands and onto the altar; the Host was transformed into flesh. When he could not hide the Blood he stopped Mass and went to the neighboring city of Orvieto where Pope Urban IV was staying. The Pope sent emissaries to investigate it and after ascertaining the facts had the local Bishop bring the Host and the Blood stained altar cloth to Orvieto where he and St. Thomas Aquinas examined the miracle themselves. The Pope then commissioned Aquinas to compose the Office for the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours for Corpus Christi, which we still use today. This winter I read about another Eucharistic miracle in the January-February issue of the Garabandal Journal pages 15-19. This miracle occurred in the town of Santarem, Portugal, which is only a few miles from Fatima. This miracle occurred not be-cause of a lack of faith in the Real Presence but because the sacred Host was going to be profaned. The story is as follows: A woman of Santarem discovered her husband’s adulterous activities and distraught over her inability to stop them turned to a Jewish sorceress to force her husband to remain faithful to her. The sorceress promised to help her by casting a spell on her husband, but the woman needed to provide a particular ingredient: a consecrated Host. The woman was rightfully horrified by the thought of committing such a sacrilege, but out of desperation she finally gave in and decided to do it after Mass on Feb-ruary 16, 1247. After receiving Holy Communion, the woman removed the Host from her mouth and wrapped it in her veil. Almost immedi-ately Blood began to flow from the consecrated Host staining the veil and running down the woman’s arm and dripping from her hand. Onlookers thought she was injured and rushed to help her but she fled the church leaving a trail of Blood behind her. She was terrified by the great offense she had been preparing to do and how God had drawn attention to it. Instead of bringing the Host to the sorceress she raced home and put the Blood-soaked veil with the Host still wrapped inside it into a wooden trunk. She thought her secret was safe. When she and her husband retired for the night the house be-came illuminated and the light was found to be coming from the wooden trunk. She confessed to her husband what she had done and both experienced a profound contrition for their sins. They spent the night in adoration before the trunk. In the morning they went to St. Stephen’s church and the woman confessed to the parish priest all that she had done. The priest followed them home and witnessed the miracle himself. The Host was solemnly processed to the church where it was enclosed in wax and preserved in a special tabernacle. The bloodied veil and the trunk were also locked away for preservation since they were stained with the Precious Blood of Christ. 1997 marked the 750th anniversary of the Miracle and in preparation for this commemoration the Bishop of Lisbon gave permission for the removal of samples of the bloody Host for scientific analysis. The DNA in the sample proved to be an exact match to the DNA found in the blood and tissue that had been scientifically tested from another Eucharistic Miracle that oc-curred in Lanciano, Italy in the year 750. Later in 2005 the sample of Blood taken from Lanciano was an exact match of the blood samples taken from the Shroud of Turin. There are over 100 of these Eucharistic Miracles throughout the world. It is the Lord’s way of reminding us that He is truly present in the Eucharist. What our senses fail to perceive our faith reveals to us.

Happy Feast Day!
