  • Principal’s Message

‘I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:

Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,

And live alone in the bee-loud glade.’

    ~ W B Yeats 1865-1939

It seems only like yesterday when I meet you at the begin-

ning of Year 12 in September 2011. It has been my privilege

to watch you grow into confident adults. As a year group you

have achieved so much and your contribution to St Mary’s has

been outstanding. Throughout your time in St Mary’s you were

presented with many opportunities to show your artistic, dra-

matic, musical, sporting and creative talents; you grasped each

of these and provided a very positive example to the school community.

You have been a very talented, co-operative and hardworking year group. As you think back on your time

in school always focus on the positive; the friendships you made and the good times you have enjoyed.

I want to thank the Senior Team, Bronagh, Oisin, Alice, Eimear, Eoin and Aaron for all of their hard work

throughout Year 14. They were strong leaders who worked with good humour to make sure all year

    group events were successful.

On behalf of your subject teachers, form tutors and Mrs McGee, I would like to wish you every success

with your final school examinations. You should face the future with confidence and continue to make

your parents/guardians proud of your achievements in all aspects of your life.

As you now move on to the next stage of university or employment, I hope the values and Christian faith

that have been nurtured at home and in St Mary’s will continue to grow throughout your future develop-

ment. I look forward to learning about your success in the years to come.

    Mrs D Gillespie

Head Of Year 14 - Mrs. McGee

Year 14, some of you I have known for a relatively short period

of time, some I have known for seven years, some since P1

    and one for a lifetime!

Regardless of how long our association has been, over the

past two years I have got to know each of you so much better.

I have admired your talents: sporting, musical, artistic, dramat-

ic and everything else in between! I have celebrated with you

in your successes and I have commiserated with you when

things did not work out for you exactly as you would have

wished. In addition, I have cajoled, encouraged and berated in

equal measure and now I find myself saying…… goodbye.

Like all other parents and guardians here tonight, I am excited

for what the future holds in store for each of you. As you leave this place of learning, I am in no doubt

that you are also excited about the future. But all of us are a little fearful too, as you leave a place of

familiarity and security and take a leap into the unknown. We, none of us, know what ups and downs

you will encounter along your journey through life but I do know that you are extremely well equipped

for that journey. With the love and support of your parents and guardians, the unbreakable friendships

forged during your time in St. Mary’s and a strong faith, developed here and nurtured at home, you

have all the tools that you need to face the next chapters in your life with confidence.

Over the past two years, I have offered you plenty of advice, not all of it welcomed! However, I couldn’t

let you go without a few last pearls of wisdom:

    • Give the world the best you have

    • Be kind to all you encounter

    • Appreciate your family

    And of course….

    • Guilt-free relaxation after a hard day’s work or study is an unbeatable feeling!

    Year 14, as you take your leave tonight I have a long ‘wish list’ for each of you but, in a nutshell;

‘My wish for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to; your dreams stay big, your wor-

ries stay small and you never have to carry more than you can hold….’ (Rascal Flatts)

    God Bless

    Mrs S. McGee

  • I don’t think many of us are likely to forget what a close-knit and varied group the Class of 2014 are either.

We have seen and experienced the tremendous talent from our peers; with gifted chemists, mathemati-

cians and physicians, Hollywood-bound actors and actresses, soon to be All Ireland winners, prestigious

athletes and dancers, fantastic musicians and singers and even some top quality farmers to name a few.

As we got to know each other better every day, we have grown close and had non-stop laughs and

plenty of fun to become lifelong friends.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mrs Gillespie, Mrs McGee and of course our form

tutors, who have worked endlessly over the last two years, providing unlimited help, support and en-

couragement. We also would look to extend our thanks to all staff of St. Mary’s; both teaching and non-

teaching, who ensured we were so well looked after - inside and outside the classroom.

Furthermore, we would like to thank you, our fellow students, for giving us the wonderful opportunity to

be your Head Boy and Girl. Despite the hectic schedule, it has been the utmost privilege to represent

such a talented, good-humoured and close-knit year group. We shall treasure this experience forever.

Undoubtedly, the skills and talents that St. Mary’s recognised within us will remain far and beyond these

school gates. Leaving the familiar friendly faces will be difficult, but as we move onto the next phase in

our lives, the memories of our seven years in St. Mary’s will last forever. We wish you all the best of luck

in all of your future endeavours - may you follow your dreams and reach your goals, maintaining your

friendships with one another along the way.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. —Dr. Seuss

    Oisín and Bronagh

If, when we first came here, you told us that after seven years at St. Mary’s we’d be sad to be getting

closer to hanging up our ‘stylish’ blazers for the last time, we would have probably laughed at you. But

here we are in our final days attending a place that has had such a monumental impact on all of our lives.

Seven years has never passed so quickly and for most of us, it doesn’t seem possible that our time at

    St. Mary’s is nearly complete.

At this stage we recall the first memories of our time here, getting lost in the maze of halls, having a pris-

tine uniform with a hairstyle we’d rather forget. But soon we established close friends from the year group

who would become like a second family. And what a time we’ve had together here, doing everything from

honing the skill of doing homework under pressure on the morning bus, to skilfully (in most cases) skiing

down the slopes of Boston and Norway, from helping each other stay on the banana boat in first year to

helping to fundraise for many charities, from competing against each other for annual sports days medals

to winning All-Stars, from designing products in technology to performing in the school’s musicals, from

dissecting organs to orating speeches and debating, we’ve truly done it all.

I have really enjoyed being the form tutor of 14AMG, you have been a great group to work with and have taken every opportunity to display all of your talents and personalities whether it be on the football pitch as a member of the MacRory squad, acting in the drama theatre, performing in musical productions, demonstrating artistic abilities with our fantastic Christmas door design (which we should have won!!) and of course not forgetting, our very own creative video blogger!

You have always been helpful and accommodating and have demonstrated your generosity in your involvement in charitable activities. I am sure the friendships formed will last you a lifetime and hope you take with you fond memories of St. Mary’s.

I wish you every luck and success in the future as you embark on a new chapter in your lives and look forward to hearing of your undoubted future accomplishments.

Well, doesn’t time fly? It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since you all became my form class, although some of you have been with me for four years and others just for the past year. Can I thank you all for making my job as a form teacher fairly easy!

I know that you will all have your own special memories of St. Mary’s and hope that you will stay in touch with the friends that you have made here. You are a talented group – I only have to look at your achieve-ments (not just academic) to see that, whether it be your involvement with sport, choir, music or drama, success in competitions, participation in school trips or representing the school at various events, as well as what you are involved in outside of school. You should all be very proud of yourselves. It may be regarded as a talent to come late to registration (you know who I mean), or to spend more time on your hair than you would like to admit (you know who I mean too!) but those talents are rarely recognised – consider it done!

I wish you all great success in your A levels, and fulfilment in your chosen university courses and future careers. I look forward to hearing how you are all getting on, and above all, I hope that you each have much happiness in your lives. Take care of yourselves and of each other,

It has been a pleasure over the past few years to get to know this group of young people. There is so much potential and talent amongst them. We have kind and charitable students, great team players, mu-sicians, mathematicians, linguists and academics to name but a few. There is an exciting future ahead.

I wish you all the best for your future endeavours. Be confident, kind, work hard and look forward to achieving your dreams.

It has been a great privilege for me to have had the pleasure of being the Form Tutor of such a friendly and talented group of students in their final year at St. Mary’s. I have watched them cope admirably with the many challenges and opportunities which presented themselves during the course of the year.

I have been privy to the animated conversations about their Formal, their Eighteenth Birthday celebra-tions, their Driving Test experiences and, more recently, their thoroughly enjoyable Social.

In addition to their academic achievements, this group of pupils have enjoyed success as Camogs, Footballers, Marathon Runners, Singers and Musicians. Over the years they have been involved in many extra-curricular activities and memorable trips. Along this journey they have made true and lasting friend-ships and developed into caring and thoughtful individuals who are ready to move on to the next phase of their lives.

14MON students, I will be sad to see you leave St. Mary’s but I have every confidence that you have all of the necessary skills and abilities to enable you to embrace your futures without fear. Be true to yourselves and make your own best contribution. Have a deep belief in your abilities and your talents will go a long way. I wish you all every success and happiness in the future.

My journey with this year group began back in September 2007, when I first started in St. Mary’s and was a Year 8 form teacher. Since then I have watched the pupils grow and mature into accomplished young adults. I have many fond memories of each year; meeting everyone and seeing all their eager faces in the Assembly Hall foyer on the first day of Year 8, school trips, musicals, sporting and academic achieve-ments and of course the glamorous formal.

Over the past two years, it has been a pleasure to be the form tutor of 14PBA. They are a group of co-operative, caring and friendly young people. We were very fortunate to have two new students, Debbie and Sebastian join our group in Year 13 who both adapted very quickly and easily to life in St. Mary’s. This was in part due to the warm and genuine welcome given to them by the class. In Year 14 we welcomed Rory into the tutor group and similarly its feels like he’s always been a member of our year group.

I have been continually amazed at the wide range of talents demonstrated by members of the class; from artists to footballers, camogie players, musicians, singers, linguists, athletes and scientists. A prime example of their talent and creativity is when the door of J5 was beautifully transformed into a snowy and twinkling winter scene for the ‘Decorate your door for Christmas’ competition and we were crowned worthy winners! I will certainly miss the fun and good nature of you all and hope you retain your competi-tive spirit.

As you move onto the next exciting stage of your lives, I wish each and every one of you well and hope you stay in touch with us here in St. Mary’s. Wherever life takes you in the future, I wish you every health, happiness and success. Work hard and enjoy life!

My journey into the responsibilities of a Form Tutor in senior school has been one which I have enjoyed immensely, all credit to the many wonderful personalities in 14WDM. My early morning serenity has been replaced with chat of theory tests, driving tests, car parking issues and healthy (mainly) discussion sur-rounding the many fine rules and regulations in St Mary’s.

If all good things come to those who wait, then it true to say that waiting has been the key part of the life for the Form Tutor of 14WDM. Waiting for the late bus to finish a register, waiting for reply slips, for chari-table donations (although most generous when they did arrive), sick notes, absence notes, exam entries and on goes the list. Never to be burdened by the bureaucratic load, 14WDM met all of my requests with a smile, laugh or a joke and in truth that is more important in the big picture of life.

I have enjoyed supporting 14WDM in MacRory matches or camogie fixtures, discussing career paths and University plans. The days of Year 13 PD lessons will go down in history also as we met to discuss the hard hitting issues of the teenage years.

I wish every single member of 14WDM every success in the future and I hope that all your dreams be-come realities.
