As we conclude the season of Ordinary Time and move into Advent, let each of us make an accounting of our stewardship before the coming of our king. Have we been loyal subjects? In our prayers and daily living, do we treat Christ as a sovereign over us or as a servant who exists only to do our will? We pray with the coming of Advent that Jesus will lead us and guide us in the ways of service, helping us to show our love for God by how we love and serve one another, especially the least among us.

Today’s Solemnity always takes place on the last Sunday in Ordinary Time before the beginning of Advent and the start of a

new liturgical year. In Advent, we prepare for the two comings of Christ – as a baby in Bethlehem, and his return as a king in

glory. This celebration of Jesus’ kingship prepares us for both comings of the Christ. Though this feast exalts the royal and

divine attributes of the Christ, Ezekiel prophesies the coming of a Messiah who will live humbly as a shepherd, focusing his

efforts on seeking out the lost, the straying, the injured and sick: I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. This shepherd promises a safe ground for pasture, and rest for the weary of his flock.

Above all, Ezekiel suggests the personal concern and care the Lord will show for each of his lambs: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. Jesus is soon to be led out to the cross. Before he goes, he draws our attention to his return in glory

and the final judgment. With so little time left in his life, Jesus calls upon his disciples to use whatever time has been left to

them, and to us, wisely and well – not out of self-interest, but rather to look after the needs of the least among us, knowing

that whatsoever we do for one of these little ones, we do for him. We serve our king by serving each other. Jesus is a king

like no other. The only crown our king ever wore was made of thorns and brambles. As we conclude the season of Ordinary

Time and move into Advent, let each of us make an accounting of our stewardship before the coming of our king. Have we

been loyal subjects? In our prayers and daily living, do we treat Christ as a sovereign over us or as a servant who exists only

to do our will? We pray with the coming of Advent that Jesus will lead us and guide us in the ways of service, helping us to

show our love for God by how we love and serve one another, especially the least among us.

Scripture and the Tradition of the Catholic Church provide an abundance of wisdom, though it can often be challenging to apply it to our lives. To help you learn to gather and live with greater wisdom, St. Matthew Parish will begin Wisdom: God’s Vision for Life. You will not only benefit personally from being part of this study; you will also help us to grow in fellowship as a parish as we grow closer to Christ together. Wisdom invites you to experience the transforming power of taking time to apply God’s wisdom to your own life. You will learn to see with his vision. You will experience the peace of knowing God cares for you, and you will see how God - and only God - can show you a path through any circumstance. Participants will receive a journal and will meet every week to view an engaging video presentation followed by a time of lively group discussion and fellowship. The eight 30-minute videos, presented by Jeff Cavins, will guide you through a variety of themes drawn from the wisdom literature of Scripture. Jeff will explain Scripture’s wisdom on decision-making, finances, relationships, peace of mind, and speaking to one another and will look at the beauty of wisdom gained through age and at how Christ himself is the embodiment and fulfillment of all wisdom.

ADVENT PENITENTIAL SERVICES AND INDIVIDUAL CONFESSIONS

EVERGREEN December 08, 2017 – Friday 05.00 PM

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE ITEMS NEEDED FOR LORD’S FOOD BANK

Advent is time of preparation as we prepare our homes to receive the Christ child. In preparation for Christmas we should take some time to count our own blessings and find ways to give back. We encourage our parishioners to bring food items to the church any time and place them in the boxes marked “FOOD BANK” at the foyer of the church. Each week a member of our parish takes to the Lord’s Food Bank what has been given. Thank you for your support!

MOST NEEDED ITEMS: canned fruit/vegetables, canned meat, juices, pasta and sauce, canned tomatoes, canned beans, crackers, peanut butter and jam, baking products, rice, coffee/tea, cereal, jarred baby food/formula, baby products, toilet paper and hygiene products.

On Sunday, December 10, we will have special FOOD COLLECTION DAY for local Lord’s Food Bank. We encourage you and

your children to bring an item for the Food Bank Basket. Just above we provided list of most needed items that the Food

Bank requires, but anything you can spare will be appreciated. Items will be collected at collection time during Mass.

MANGER PROJECT Gifts for Jesus

As the Wise Men who brought gifts to baby Jesus to celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us follow their example by filling our “Manger of gifts” in support of mothers bringing life anew, into this world. May God Bless you all in this Advent act of love, as we await with joy the birth of our Lord, Christmas! On December 03, 2017, the first Sunday of Advent, you will notice in the foyer a manger filled with paper straw. Each straw has an item written on it that is needed to fill 10-12 baby care bags. These bags will be given to new mothers throughout the year 2018. Please feel free to take a straw or straws each week and kindly return your gift of love to be displayed surrounding the manger for the duration of the Advent. On December 21, 2017, these items will be prayerfully delivered with love and ready for distribution to those in need.
