Dear Friends,

As we celebrate the Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time we are drawing near to the end of the liturgical year. The readings for this week, as usual, speak about the end-times. This time of November with its focus on our faithful departed, together with these readings, cause us to reflect on our own mortality. We pray that the grace of this weekend’s worship will insure God’s mercy and love at the end our own lives and at the end of all time.

This weekend we heard of the need for our support of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary through its annual collection. You should have received a direct mailing concerning this collection. Please be as generous as you can in supporting our archdiocesan seminary in their mission to educate and form men to be holy and zealous priests. We have been blessed to participate in this formation process as a parish. We have been blessed by the presence of so many wonderful seminarians and now, priests.

This weekend is the last opportunity to submit names of possible candidates for the priesthood. The CALLED BY NAME process for obtaining names is concluding. The next step will be for me to send each person a letter indicating that their name was submitted and to ask them to prayerfully discern if this is a calling from the Lord himself. There will be follow-up steps going forward. PRAY for open and willing hearts to hear the call! Pray to for our young parishioner in the application process for the seminary and for Jonathan as he continues his studies at the seminary. If I were ever to have a legacy I desire, it would be for many, many future priests from Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish!

You may notice a new display at the back of church. The display is not only a reminder of our expansion and renovation project but it also contains current pictures of the construction sites. I am grateful to Ellen Cericola and Sallie Theis for their work in developing this display. As you know, there is always an opportunity for a pledge or donation. I am grateful to all who have participated in the campaign and for your ongoing support. I am also grateful for your kind and supportive words in light of a recent letter to the editor in the local paper from a non-parishioner. We cannot be discouraged in our efforts to address the needs of our parish community. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!

This week I will once again be with the monks of the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Berryville, Virginia for my annual retreat. As usual, I will carry with me in prayer your intentions and needs. Please pray for me that I make a good retreat and return to you renewed and refreshed in the Lord and his Holy Spirit!

With a look ahead, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We will be having our annual Thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday evening November 25 at 7PM and on Thanksgiving Day at 9AM. At these Masses we will be collecting non-perishable food for the needy and we will be blessing and distributing bread for your family meal. Please plan to attend Mass and offer the perfect prayer of thanksgiving, the Eucharist!

May Saint Robert Bellarmine greet our beloved dead in heaven and intercede for us here on earth!

With prayers,

The Thirty-third Sunday In

FROM THE DESK OF

MRS. JASTER

APPLE OF MY EYE: Congratulations to the first students who were recognized for doing something good: Elizabeth Rosenello, Andrew Dachowski, Benjamin Bargerhuff, Albert Funk and Noelle Musial . TUITION ASSISTANCE: The application for tuition assistance through BLOCS is now available. Please note the new regulations – if you have received assistance through BLOCS this year, you must submit your application by December 31, 2015 or the window closes! You can access the online form either at www.blocs.org or go directly to www.smartaidforparents.com. The directions for completing the form are linked here and are also on the website. A PDF form to be downloaded and submitted in hard copy is not available to date but will be soon from Smart Aid. If you did not receive assistance through BLOCS this year but plan to submit an application your deadline is not so soon but you would be wise to submit ASAP.

SCHOOL PICTURES: The students will have their annual school pictures taken next Tuesday. Information about the pictures is being sent home today. CONGRATULATIONS!: Congratulations

to Katelynn Razler, grade 8, for placing third in the VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest. The theme of the contest was: “What Freedom Means to Me”. I am sharing Katelynn’s thoughts wilh all of you in today’s communication. ST. JOSEPH’S CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: St. Joseph’s Chr istmas Bazaar is Sunday, December 6th in the Church Hall~Santa will be there~Food, Vendors, Crafters, Games for the Kids and pictures with Santa and plenty of great Raffle Baskets. See flyer in this week’s communication. JUST A THOUGHT: This past Sunday afternoon I attended our annual Sacrament Sunday. During one of his presentations, Father Jim DeGrassa spoke of the importance of “Catholic family traditions”. He gave examples such as attending Mass each week as a family, praying “Grace” before meals, or praying before going to bed. Father acknowledged that our lives are being lived at a frenetic pace. However, he encouraged all of us present to think of what faith-filled memories we are instilling in our children. A very powerful message, don’t you agree?

National Bible Week 2015 November 15—November 21

Wednesday, November 18 for BIBLE BASICS and Lectio Divina — 7:00 PM in the Chapel

Ever Ancient, Ever New: The Art and Practice of LECTIO DIVINA

Here are the four steps of lectio divina (divine reading that allows us to attune our hearts to the voice of God,

which often requires us to become still and silent):

1. Read (lectio) - Choose a Bible passage, maybe the upcoming Sunday Gospel. Slowly read the

passage, pausing on a word or phrase that resonates with your mind and heart.

2. Meditate (meditatio) - Read the passage again, thinking about the word or phrase that attracted you.

Do you “hear” or “see” Christ in the this verse?

3. Pray (oratio) - Respond in prayer with God, have a conversation with God about what he may be asking of you .

4. Contemplate (contemplatio) - Rest in God’s presence.

These are simple explanations of the steps. You can see more at www.ignatianspirituality.com

and join us on November 18!

If you can make the time, I think you’ll be glad you did. Information about what they will be discussing and where they will be meeting is sent out a few days prior to each Saturday morning meeting.
