THEME: PERSEVERANCE IN PRAYER AND FIDELITY TO GOD’S WAYS LEAD US TO THE KINGDOM – Endurance runners need a great deal of perseverance. They cannot expend all their energy at the beginning, or they won’t be able to complete the race. Nor can they run the race without the proper training, fuel and clear direction as to the route. We, too, need a tremendous amount of perseverance to run a race of good faith. Prepared by sacraments, fueled by grace and headed toward Jesus, we can reach the kingdom.
LITURGY OF THE WORD – In the first reading, Moses needs help in keeping his hands raised so that Joshua will be victorious. Saint Paul reminds Timothy to remain faithful to what he has learned. In the Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the persistent widow to remind the disciples to pray always without becoming weary.

STEWARDSHIP: OCTOBER 20, 2019 – 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – “…proclaim the word, be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient...” (2 Timothy 4:2) It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful.

do our celebration next weekend, October 27. Father Korda has done so much for our parish during his time here and we thank him for all his efforts on our behalf. The Niles Catholic Women’s Club will have refreshments after Masses to give you an opportunity to extend your personal appreciation for his priestly guidance. God Bless you always, Father Korda!
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE BY BUD OZAR – The widow in today’s Gospel is praised for her perseverance. In our homes, perseverance is a critical ingredient to resolving differences and teaching lessons and skills to children. Perseverance is always an act of faith in the goodness of the other person.

– and our personal lives? This weekend retreat explores the nature of Hope and her relation to her two sisters, Faith and Love. It also suggests some practical ways we can nourish hope and courage in our daily lives. The retreat will use scripture, music, short videos, stories, sharing, and humor to lead us deeper into the Source of All Hope, our Gracious God who loves us more than we can imagine. Melannie Svoboda, SND, is a Sister of Notre Dame of Chardon, OH, who has ministered as a high school and college teacher, formation director, congregational leader, spiritual director, and writer.
