Dear parents and carers.

I would like to start by welcoming you back and I hope you have all had a rest-ful and safe Easter holidays.

The following are a few key points for your attention.

1. We have devised a poster for your attention. You will see key infor-mation on how you can support your child at home and other safeguard-ing matters.

2. As promised, we will be reducing our lesson timetable, so that students will be spending less time at a screen and given regular opportuni-ties for rest between lessons.

3. Teachers will continue to predomi-nantly teach via Google Classroom and Google Meet. They may not al-ways expect students to be online and will speak to them specifically about this.

4. Students are reminded that they must use the camera and are not allowed to turn this off, unless given permission by their teacher.

5. We are expecting that students ar-rive to lessons on-time and parents will be informed if their child is per-sistently late. Parents will be able to see their child’s attendance by logging into Progresso (www.progresso.net). For those parents who have not yet signed up to Progresso, you have received an email inviting you to do so.

6. Students are not allowed to have their phones out during lessons. We are asking for your support in this matter, by reminding your children

to turn their phones off during les-son time, as this is causing a dis-traction.

Please feel free to email myself, mem-bers of the leadership team, or teach-ers directly, if you have any questions or concerns over the summer term.

Recording of Lessons Some of you have raised a concern about your child being recorded in online lessons.

We have had to act and adapt very quickly to ensure that your child still has access to education. As I stated in an email to you, one of our learning platforms is Google Meet. Our students enjoy this because it is very interactive, given that they can see and hear the teacher and each other. However, to safeguard our staff and students, we have sought external advice, recommending that we record our lessons and store the recordings centrally.

You have already signed the Acceptable Use Policy form allowing this. However, if you feel strongly about it, please contact me to advise me urgently, so that we can discuss this matter further and consider alternative options for your child’s learning. Please also note that the videos will be stored within the school system and will only be used for the purpose of safeguarding.

We value your input on this educational journey in these challenging times.

In spite of its abrupt end, we hope this year was the culmination of a happy and rewarding experience at Stanborough School for all of our departing students. It has been a privilege to work with Year 11 and we hope to be inviting them back in the Autumn term for a graduation evening. Most of our students will pursuing A-Levels and other courses at a variety of Sixth Forms and Colleges throughout the UK. For all students in Year 11, we wish them a successful and happy life and thank them for their efforts and determination over the last few months.

Thank you for such wonderful memories.

K James, Headteacher

A Fond Farewell to Year 11

I am certain that none of you need any convincing about the capricious and pre-carious times in which we live. Nobody saw this coming, but amidst the seem-ingly universal despondency, I urge you as school leavers, to take solace in the sovereign God of creation. He has prom-ised never to leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6).

This is certainly not how we wanted to say goodbye to you; having your second-ary education severely truncated without having the chance to sit your GCSE Ex-ams; and now livestreaming is our lot!

For the significant majority of you, this must be a great source frustration, even

anger, and are bound to ask a legitimate question: why us?

I am sure you are not alone in this dilem-ma. Your parents, teachers, and others who are keenly interested in your educa-tion are perplexed too. However, let no one lose heart.

After encountering a sea of dry bones in an arid valley of Judea, the prophet Ezeki-el was asked by the Lord, “Son of man, can these bones live?” Ezekiel response is instructive: “O Lord God, You know.”

At the command of the Lord, the desic-cated bones lived again. Similarly, in the

seemingly implacable situation we find ourselves, things can and will change for the better, at His word.

The future of each one of you is firmly in his capable hands. Are you not already impressed by how kindly the Lord has dealt with us? Yes, we might have experi-enced sickness and even death in our families. However, He has spared us, and for this we say, thank you Jesus!

So what has been your experience at Stanborough School?

A Message from Year 11 Form Tutor Mr E Amo

It would be naïve for me to think that everything has been bed and roses; yet, I still believe you will leave with many fond memories.

Individually and collectively, you have come a long way. Thank you for being

cooperative and displaying an increas-ing sense of maturity. We have seen characters changed and reformed. The tenacity shown by many of you towards all the extra lessons is simply impres-sive. You did not buckle under the strange and bewildering circumstances of the day, saturated with a multiplicity of online learning, including Google Classroom and Google Meet.

Hand on heart; I will not miss your occa-sional cacophonous noise levels. Other-wise, I will dearly miss you all, and I can assure you, you leave with my blessing.

You also leave with the blessings of the

entire teaching and non-teaching staff.

Any top tips for you? Sure! It was Thom-as Jefferson, the 3rd US president, who said:

“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; in the same token, nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”

Thus far you have come. Remain posi-tive and heed also to the advice of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a 19th century US poet, lecturer and essayist. He said:

“Don’t waste your life in doubts and fears: spend yourself on the work be-fore you, well assured that the right performance of this hour's duties will be the best preparation for the hours and ages that will follow.”

I am sure that when the annals of histo-ry open to scrutiny, the class of 2020 will stand tall, like a colossus. That, against overwhelming odds, you remained sto-ic.

At a more opportune time, I shall pro-

nounce my blessing upon you individual-ly. For now as a class, please mark these words of A.W. Tozer, a 20th Century US protestant Pastor:

“Anything God has ever done, He can do now.

Anything God has ever done anywhere, He can do here. Anything God has ever done for anyone, he can do for you.”

Go in the blessings of the Lord. I believe your education in this school has made you inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective.

Beyond these wonderful ideals, I am con-fident that your time at Stanborough School has exposed you to something more lasting and enduring, i.e. hope and buoyancy in God. He has the power to help you now and save you for eternity.

In closing then, I leave you with Isaiah 41:10.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Finally,

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you.

May the Lord lift up his countenance up-on you, and give you peace.

Through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.
