bull Nevada began participation in the National Governors Association (NGA) Learning Network on Improving Birth Outcomes in 2013

bull Seeks to align existing programs and coordinate activities across public and private agencies to accelerate the pace of improving birth outcomes statewide

bull Identify the magnitude of adverse birth outcomes in Nevada including modifiable risk factors of preterm births low birth weight infant mortality and assess racial and ethnic disparities

Program Overview

bull The Improving Birth Outcomes Learning Network focuses on demonstrated best practices of states which have improved birth outcomes

bull Learn about coordinating activities across agencies statewide and options to accelerate the pace of improving outcomes and reducing costs

bull The goal is to assist states in developing implementing and aligning key policies and initiatives related to the improvement of birth outcomes measured by the incidence or preterm births and infant mortality

Current Activities Workgroup 1 bull Collect and analyze data

bull The Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Section (MCAH) within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) is partnering with the Office of Public Health Informatics and Epidemiology (OPHIE) to gather data on birth spacing prenatal care visits high risk behaviors and chronic illnesses

bull MCAH is partnering with Women Infants and Children (WIC) to gather data on postpartum visits and wellness visits

bull Increase community education and awareness bull MCAH engages partners and stakeholders to increase community education and awareness

about preconception and interconception health

bull Information and resources are provided to the Nevada Childrens Medical Home Portal to promote healthcare services for women and families with special health care needs

bull Develop a campaign to educate Primary Care Physicians Managed Care Offices OBGYNs and other health professionals on the value of One Key Question

bull Include information on family planning birth spacing postpartum visits and wellness visits in the informational PINK Packet materials given to each woman after giving birth

Workgroup 1 Accomplishments bull Preconception and lnterconception Health Promotion is an area of

focus for Title V involvement in the Infant Mortality Collaborative Innovation and Improvement Network and aligns with Title V measures Activities focus on family planning and birth spacing

bull Existing websites community partners and coalition activities promote initiatives focused on improving preconception and interconception health including family planning birth spacing postpartum visits and wellness visits

bull Education and awareness to promote One Key Question to health professionals continues to be part of Title V efforts

bull The Nevada Childrens Medical Home Portal launched in January 2017 and promotion has been embedded in all Title V subgrants
