A visit to a nearby Small Hydropower Station for
hands on training at site will be undertaken during
the training.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE), Government of India, the nodal Ministry
for the development of Small Hydropower (upto
25 MW) has sponsored this course. MNRE offers
several incentives to utilities and private
developers for the development of Small
Hydropower in India.

THE SPONSOR, MNRE
Alternate Hydro Energy Centre (AHEC) was set
up at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee
(formerly University of Roorkee) by the Ministry of
New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
Government of India, in the year 1982 to work forenhancement of power generation in the country
through the development of small hydropower in
hilly as well as plain areas. AHEC imparts training
to the field engineers and technologists regularly.
It also provides expert services on all aspects of
SHP development to the users. These services
are being utilised by state governments and
private developers. AHEC has been identified as`Apex Technical Institution' for the Small
Hydropower Development in India. The centre
also runs a 4 semester Master of Technology
Course in "Alternate Hydro Energy Systems",
which is open to national and international
participants.
