Hopefully, we will have the By-Laws ready to discuss during

our meeting. It is so important to keep the By-Laws up to

date.

What a fun time we had at the August meeting. Hopefully you learned something from the mini grant demos that were presented that evening. It’s always fun to see what different techniques etc. are out there. At the September meeting we will have a guest speaker who will discuss machine maintenance at home. This will be a very informative presentation—don’t miss it. Here’s what on the calendar so far. If you have any ideas please let me know. Nov - Sewing Kit Make and Take - you will need small scissors and an embroidery needle (if you have one - some will be available at meeting to use.)

Feb - Applique - Piecing - Demo by Patty Pruitt (not what you think!!) Be there!

Mar - QuiltO - lots of neat prizes to win!

Coming in January - a Block of the Month that you can make in 3 different sizes - 4" - 6" or 12". There will be a total of 9 blocks. Different ways to set blocks will be demonstrated at completion. Fabric requirements and more information will be available at meetings. Make sure you have the revised fabric requirements sheet. I apolo-gize for the errors on the original handout.

Minutes of Club Meeting – Stitchers Quilt Guild

Date of Meeting: August 29, 2018 Place: Hardin County Cooperative Extension

Time of Meeting: 6:30 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by President Darlene Chenault

Acknowledge Visitors & New members (if any) – Forty-two members were present. Donna Starcher was introduced as a guest.

Approval of Minutes – The minutes were sent out in the August newsletter. Martha Claycomb moved the approval of the minutes. Sharon Whitfield seconded.

The minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s report – Report was emailed to members President Chenault asked if any questions, hearing none the report will be filed. President Chenault asked

members to contact her, if any would be willing to become treasurer.

Report of Officers and Standing Committees:

1st Vice President Patty Pruitt – reported that she will be starting a Block of the Month activity beginning in January of 2019 in three different sizes. She displayed

samples of the small, medium, and large blocks for January.

2nd Vice President Kelly Pruitt said she is collecting money for the Quilt Retreat at Loucon. She mentioned that 22 members were signed up to go, but there is still

room for a few more. She reported that Anne Aubrey would be teaching a Holiday Snowman applique class in October. A supply list would be provided when

members signed up for $5.00. She also stated that the fabric requirements for the January Mystery class were available in case members wanted to search for

fabrics at Fall Quilt Shows. Kelly said that volunteers were needed on Monday, September 10th at 1 o’clock to help fold Quilt Show programs in the project room.

Secretary Anne Aubrey – reported that she had sent the July minutes to the Guild Newsletter Chairman and she had contacted Pat Brown, KHQS (Kentucky Histori-

cal Quilt Society)

Newsletter Editor, to find out when she could submit an article for publication in the next issue. Pat told Anne she would put her name on the contact list for the

November edition.

Old Business:

The Heartland of Kentucky Quilt Show:

Chairman Barbara Jeffries said things are going well for the show, but members should call her if they had any questions. Pat McMillian, Volun-

teer Coordinator, read off areas where volunteers were still needed. (Several were filled at that time.) She also asked for volunteers to sign-up

to conduct a demo. Donetta Faulkner-Elmore reported that Ruth Hayden, Quilt

Coordinator, requested that when dropping off quilts fold them, so that the label is showing. Leona Gilliam passed around a sheet listing quilt

names that have been submitted, so members could check the name of their quilt(s). Presently there are 223 quilts from Guild members. There

will be a trunk show from Debra Henninger both days of the show. It was reported that some members of the Elizabethtown High School base-

ball team will help with set-up and tear-down this year. Culinary art students from ECTC will take care of the café. Workers are still needed at

the Country Store. President Chenault and Vonnie Ryan will bring water for Guild workers on Thursday. Workers will be needed throughout the

day.

Hospice Quilts are still needed. Size requirements are 36” x 44” with no fringe. Quilts can be given to Suzanne Davis, Vicki Loyall, or President

Chenault for delivery to Hospice.

New Business:

President Chenault said it was discovered that the By-laws Committee had reviewed an older copy of the by-laws, therefore the current by-laws

would need to be reviewed by the officers, along with 2 additional elected members from the general membership. Martha Claycomb and Mar-

got VanLengen volunteered to serve on the committee.

Announcements:

Patty Pruitt moved that the Guild support the Back Pack food program by donating money to support 2 back packs for the year at a cost of

$120.00 each. The motion was tabled until next month.

Monthly Activity – Recipients of Stitcher Mini-grants talked about their classes – Patty Pruitt, Kelly Pruitt, Tia Kennedy, and Margot VanLengen.

Betty Hancock was unable to present at this meeting. Various prizes were won by Bonnie Young, Linda Griffiths, Anne Aubrey, Amy Aldenderfer,

Ava Allen, Veronica Culberson, Denise Sloyer, Paul Wimp, Leona Gilliam, and Donetta Faulkner-Elmore.

Next Meeting – September 26th The program will be on sewing machine maintenance.

Additional Announcements:

Sharon Whitfield announced that if anyone was in need of a sewing table, let her know.

Member Virginia Coomes is in the hospital.

Audrey Kohlmann is back at the Mayo Clinic.

Ramona Peterson said she had brought information (on the back table) about a Quilt and Bible study class sponsored by Severns Valley Baptist

Church, info on quilt classes at ECTC, and coupons from JoAnn’s Fabrics.

HOLIDAY SNOWMAN Stitchers Workshop

Fabrics:

Background(s) – at least 13 ½ square inches for each snowman – various fabrics to go with the

holidays you wish to represent

White for snowman(men) – 9” x 10” (for one, increase amount as needed for additional

snowmen)

Brown for arms – 2” x 3” (for one set, increase amount as needed) *

Choice of color for hat(s) and scarf(ves) – 4” x 5 ½” (for one set, increase as needed) *

White for pom pom(s) on hat top – 1” x 1” (for one, increase amount as needed) *

Black for buttons – 1” x 2” (for one set, increase amount as needed) *

Carrot(s) – ½” x ½” (for one, increase amount as needed) *

Choice of color for bird(s) – 1 ½” x 1 ½” (for one, increase amount as needed) *

*small scraps of fabric will do, as long as they are as large as the amount listed

Note – try to use fabrics with a tight weave that do not fray easily

Supplies:

Fusible Web & Adhesive Interfacing Paper-Backed - (I used Pellon 805 Wonder Under) – you

will need 9” x 10” for a snowman, if you are making more than one snowman increase the

amount.

Sewing Machine (if you have more than one machine, bring the one that you like to use for the

blanket (button hole) stitch or the zig zag stitch)

Threads to match the color of your fabrics

Black fine tip Sharpie

Frixion pen or other non-permanent marker

Scissors – paper and fabric (bring ones that are easy to cut little pieces)

Optional - plastic buttons, or felt, or embroidery floss and needle - whichever you prefer for

snowman buttons and carrot nose

Optional – buttons to decorate your background

If you plan to make a single wall hanging, bring batting and backing fabric several inches larger

than your project, and your walking foot and/or free motion foot.

2019 Stitchers Block of the Month (Revised 30 Aug) Starting in January we will be doing a BOM. Each month from Jan – Jun you will receive instructions/pattern to complete a block(s). You may make the blocks in either 4” – 6” or 12” size blocks. There will be instructions in July on setting those blocks – you will have choice of how you want to set them. There is a total of 9 blocks for this BOM series. The fabric requirements listed are MINIMUM requirements for each size. I would recommend having some extra on hand in case of cutting error or to accommodate the various setting options. You may use scraps for this BOM. If using scraps, I would recommend using the same color/value for the light. Not necessarily the same fabric just something similar. Ex: several different fabrics that are white on white. You may also change and make your light fabric dark and your dark fabric light!! Each month you will bring your completed block(s) back to show. Your name will then be entered into drawing that will be held at the end of the BOM period (July-Aug). Winner will receive a nice prize! There really isn’t a “Focus” fabric in the blocks. 56” X 77” 77” X 77” 77” X 98” Fabric A (Dark) 5/8 yard 1 yard 1 ¼ yard Fabric B (Light) 1 1/8 yard 1 ¾ yard 2 ¼ yard

Fabric C (Medium) 1 ¼ yard 2 yards 2 ½ yard Contrasting ½ yard ¾ yard 1 yard Sashing 1 yard 1 ¾ yard 2 yards *Inner Border 3/8 yard ½ yard ½ yard *Outer Border 1 ¼ yard 1 2/3 yard 1 5/8 yard You can use the outer border for the sashing as well. **Border Fabrics – I like to cut my borders on the straight of grain so I always buy the length required to fit the size quilt. Ex: the largest quilt 77” X 98” would require at least 98” in length so I would purchase 3 yards so that I could cut on straight of grain to prevent wavey borders. But it’s your choice. I always purchase a little more than what is stated just in case of a cutting accident (oops! I do have them). Other requirements are: Sewing machine – thread – etc Rotary cutter, mat and rulers If you have TRI-RECs rulers you will need those. If you do not have them – I will have 3 sets at the class to share. Should be fine. Small iron/pressing station. Cushion to sit on. Snack – lunch – beverages
