Principal’s Letter Dear Streams Families:
With so much to be thankful for at this time of the school year, I just want to wish all
Streams families good health and meaningful family time throughout the holiday season.
In particular, I want to share my recent “thank you note” from our amazing Stravaganza
(One and Two!). The way everyone pulled together on behalf of our school, students and
staff is the perfect example of why I am so thankful to be your principal!
From the eAlert:
The Royal Stravaganza epitomized the “can do” spirit that I find every day at Streams!
Our first event was interrupted by the area power outage, causing the event to be cur-
tailed. One of the students reflected that it made the event more “Medieval” because
there were no electric lights! You can imagine how much I loved to hear that historical
connection in ‘light’ of all that was happening! At one parent mentioned, “it was the per-
fect teachable moment to let kids know that when things don’t always go as planned,
sometimes you just have to roll with it!” What a great way to deal with the unexpected,
and everyone certainly did ‘roll’ into action!
In each case, our families and student helpers rose to the occasion, pitching in to do what-
ever was needed so that we could re-organize the school, get everyone out safely, and
begin the process to plan for the “Royal Reboot!” I am so proud to be part of such a de-
voted team!
Even our second event wasn’t without the unexpected, as the PA System blew a fuse,
shutting down in the middle of the prize announcements! I was really starting to feel like
there were “Tricksters” at work! Unfortunately, this also prevented me from thanking
everyone publicly at the end of the evening — so allow me to now send out a resounding
message of appreciation to everyone who organized, supported, and attended our Royal
Stravaganza!

December 2016
Also, my most gracious “Thanks” to our remarkable committee, led by
Mrs. Mayr and Mrs. Weaver. Your time and commitment on behalf of
our students, families, and staff was truly over the top, especially given
our unique circumstances! Hip Hip Hooray!
Stravaganza was not the only amazing event for our school.
Another heartwarming “Snuggle Up and Read” was well-attended; Spe-
cial Level Nights provided unique entertainment for students and their
parents; the Book Swap gave children a chance to turn in old favorites
for new favorites (recycling at its best!); Open Mikes gave parents a
chance to hear grade level updates; and, soon, the Holiday Shop will
kick off December events.
We are so fortunate to have such great parent participation through
our PTO, so that we can offer so much to our students. I appreciate
everyone who gets involved!

Mark Your Calendar for Children 4 Children
Principal’s Letter...continued
The annual Children 4 Children event
will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb-
ruary 16, 2017, in the Streams Gym. This
year, we will be supporting CCChampi-
ons and Anna’s Army!
CCChampions is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that
helps kids with cancer through the devel-
opmental and social challenges of the
disease by matching them with inspira-
tional role models to be there for them
every step of the way.
No matter what children want to be
when they grow up — athletes, dancers,
police officers, bookstore owners or
even video game designers — CCCham-
pions find someone inspirational who
does just that and can be there during all
of the transitions of this disease.
Anna’s Army, named for Anna Fera, a 4th
grade student at Baker Elementary
School, was diagnosed with a brain tu-
mor in April 2016. She underwent sur-
gery, when doctors removed most of the
tumor, but a pathology report indicated
that she has WNT Medullablastoma.
Anna has been receiving treatment at St.
Jude’s in Memphis, where doctors spe-
cialize in treating this type of cancer.
Proceeds from Children 4 Children will
benefit both of these organizations. If
you would like to help support this event
or have questions, contact Hallie Snyder,
chairperson, at [email protected].

Birthday Book Club
The Birthday Book Club is a great way
to celebrate your child’s special day.
Parents can do so in several different
ways.
For starters, you can send in a check
to Micki Takac, Club Chairperson, for
$18. Be sure to indicate that it’s for
the Birthday Book Club., and we will
do the rest!
Or, you also can send in a check for
$18 AND the title of a book from Mrs.
Kellner’s wish list that you would like
for us to purchase.
Lastly, if your child has a favorite
book, contact Micki at
[email protected] with the title.
No matter which option you choose,
your donation will be recognized in
the newsletter, and your child will be
honored via a bookplate in the do-
nated book.
For more information, or to inquire
about purchasing a book, contact
Micki Takac at [email protected].
You also can check out Mrs. Kellner’s
page under Teacher’s Pages on the
Streams website for the form and
book wish list.

PTO President’s Letter
With all of the hustle and bustle that the coming days will bring, what better time than the pre-
sent to slow the pace, look around us, give thanks for everything that has gotten us to this mo-
ment in our lives. Sometimes, just a gaze into the eyes of our students at Streams can offer the
best reminder of hope for the future.
We, the PTO, strive to provide opportunities for students and their families to cultivate a love for
learning in fun and unconventional ways. Who would ask students to go home, put on pajamas
and come BACK to school for a bedtime story? The PTO would, and we did!!
Who would create a co-op where the kids bring donated books to school and get to take the
same number of books home, FOR FREE? That’s right — the PTO!!
Who would encourage students to use math strategies in a pop-up store full of special gift items
for family AND at easy to add prices? Yep...the PTO!
Our latest activities were brought to you by the following parents and their teams who donat-
ed their time and energy to make each one a success: Michele Fisher, 4th Grade Special Night;
Heather Holtschlag & Marlo Lancaster — Kindergarten Special Night; Katie Perrotti and Rhoda
Smith — Snuggle Up and Read; Kathy Ginsburg — Book Swap; Hallie Snyder — 1st Grade Open
Mike; Andrea Amorose — Holiday Shop.
Important January dates to remember:
January 4: Streams is hosting the PTC meeting. Please come and hear from Dr. O’Toole, the
Council Board and representatives from all USC schools.
January 10: Our regular PTO meetings resume
January 12: 3rd Grade Open Mike at the home of Veronica Davis
January 26: 2nd Grade Open Mike at the home of Eean Kerber and 1st Grade Special Level Night
(6:30 p.m.)
Happy Holidays to you all!! — Leria Miles, Streams PTO President
