    1 – About StreetPro

Welcome to the StreetPro New Zealand Product Guide. This document is intended to assist you in gaining maximum benefit from the product, by describing installation procedures and providing a detailed insight into the datasets and associated files that make up the product.

StreetPro offers comprehensive and current street centerline and boundary information suitable for a broad range of applications. It comprises an extensive array of layers, including a high quality street network and a wide variety of contextual layers such as parks, waterways, landmass and rail, to enhance analysis and map presentation. It can also include the attribution of administrative boundaries, streets, landmarks and buildings.

    In this chapter:

Hyperlinks If you are viewing this guide using Adobe Acrobat, you can click on blue text (as in the examples immediately above) to jump to related information, for example other locations in the document or external websites.

Feedback Pitney Bowes Software strives to be responsive to the evolving and growing utility of this data product within numerous and wide-ranging types of organisations. We therefore encourage any feedback and suggestions (refer to Appendix C: Data Support and Feedback) that will assist us in developing the best possible dataset for your business requirements.

    The StreetPro Family - Compared

StreetPro Navigation This is the most comprehensive version of the product suite, offering a high performance network for routing, in-car navigation, and logistics needs, including:

    • Street address range information. • Fully detailed street connectivity of 'routable' roads for geocoding and routing

purposes. • 'Non-routable' streets included separately for reference and visualisation purposes. • A nodes table with unique identifiers representing the start and end locations of every

street segment. • Turn restrictions representing routing constraints (e.g. 'No Right Turn'). • Road classifications based on a combination of road type and area type (urban/rural

    classification).

StreetPro Classic StreetPro Classic is the full-featured version of the product suite, but without the routing components such as the combined road type / area type classification, turn restrictions, and link-node relationships.

It includes detailed street information, accurate street topology for basic routing purposes, rich feature information, and administrative boundaries.

    Pitney Bowes 4 November 2018

  • 1 – About StreetPro

It includes information on street address ranges, and correct street topology for geocoding and basic routing purposes.

StreetPro Display StreetPro Display is a reduced version of StreetPro, designed for applications where performance (such as map rendering rate) is important. It is an ideal national map base for data generated by geocoding or routing applications, or for deployment through web-based applications.

The key differences between StreetPro and StreetPro Display are as follows:

    • The Streets layer in the Display version has been optimised for improved on-screen performance, by merging records with the same name and/or road classification - thereby reducing redraw time and storage space.

    • Address range information is not included in the Display version.

    2 – Getting Started

This chapter provides you with instructions for installing the StreetPro data and explains how to open the supplied workspaces using MapInfo Professional.

    In this chapter:

Installing StreetPro 7 The StreetPro Workspace 8

  • StreetPro New Zealand Product Guide

Installing StreetPro Each StreetPro product is supplied in the form of compressed files and must be installed onto a hard drive before use.

Customised versions of StreetPro are usually supplied as uncompressed files on the media and can either be opened directly from the media or copied to a hard drive for use.

CAUTION: If you intend using StreetPro data across a network, ensure that the appropriate License Agreements have been drawn up. For more information regarding these Agreements, contact your local Pitney Bowes Software office or Reseller.

CAUTION: Before installing or opening any product, ensure that you have read and understood all the associated License Agreements, and that there is enough storage space for the data.

To install a standard (as opposed to a customised) StreetPro product, insert the media into the disk drive. The setup program should start automatically and a series of prompts will guide you through the installation. Alternatively, use Windows Explorer or similar to run the SETUP.EXE program located on the media.

MapInfo .PRJ File MapInfo Professional uses a file named MAPINFOW.PRJ as a lookup table of map projections. This file is usually located in the MapInfo Professional program directory.

A MAPINFOW.PRJ file optimised for New Zealand data is included with StreetPro. It is stored in the Extras folder where StreetPro is installed.

MapInfo .ABB File MapInfo Professional provides an option to use a lookup table of substitute street name abbreviations when geocoding. This file is very useful in maximising success rates when geocoding data to a street layer. The file is named MAPINFOW.ABB and is located in the MapInfo Professional program directory.

A MAPINFOW.ABB file optimised for New Zealand data is included with StreetPro. It is stored in the Extras folder where StreetPro is installed.

File Naming Conventions describes the street naming convention used in StreetPro and provides a list of street types and their abbreviations.

    The StreetPro Workspace

    Pitney Bowes 7 November 2018

  • 2 – Getting Started

A workspace enables you to store layer and window settings of a session within MapInfo Professional. These settings include map layer display parameters such as object style and zoom layering, layer order, object labelling, and map view.

The standard StreetPro product comes with at least one workspace (suffixed by the .WOR extension) that automatically opens all layers into a map window with optimised display settings.

To open a StreetPro workspace within MapInfo Professional:

    1. Either click the Open Workspace button on the Standard toolbar, or select Open from the File menu.

    2. Choose Workspace (.WOR) from Files of Type.

    3. Locate the workspace that you wish to open.

    4. Click Open.

  • StreetPro New Zealand Product Guide

Additional information related to each of the StreetPro New Zealand layers is available in the Metadata statements that are included with the installation files. Metadata information describes the dataset in terms of key factors such as product content, currency and accuracy.

Streets The StreetPro New Zealand Streets table (*ST.TAB) comprises street centreline records attributed with information including name and address range values (where available), alias name, road classification code and unique feature identifier (SP_UFI). A LABEL field is included to facilitate the cartographic representation of street labels.

Street names are formatted in accordance with the guidelines set out in the AS/NZS4819:2003 and AS4590:2006 “Standard Street Naming & Addressing” documents. A description of the street naming conventions and standards is provided in File Naming Conventions.

Address range information is derived from jurisdictional address datasets and field capture programs. This data is subject to an ongoing maintenance program to improve completeness, currency and consistency.

Spatial accuracy of the street data is approximately +/- 10 metres within metropolitan areas and +/- 20 metres outside metropolitan areas. This data is also subject to an ongoing maintenance program, to improve spatial accuracy and topological representation.

    4 – System Information

Pitney Bowes Software’s data products come with a range of supporting information and data structures to allow you to effectively understand and manage the content. Details on this system level information are given here.

Metadata Metadata conforming to ANZLIC standard is supplied in XML file format for the StreetPro product range. These files can easily be viewed in a Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. Alternatively, XML viewers are available from third party sources that readily display the hierarchical structure of the metadata information.

    Pitney Bowes 45 November 2018

  • 4 – System Information

StreetPro Unique Feature Identifiers Each record in the StreetPro tables has its own unique StreetPro Unique Feature Identifier.

miCode Schema StreetPro releases to date have incorporated feature Type coding that is consistent with, but not necessarily related to, a recognised standard. Pitney Bowes Software, with an objective to align to recognised standards and add more 'depth' and 'intelligence' to its coding, has developed a coding system that is progressively being applied to its range of data products globally—the miCode schema.

This schema is a variation of the feature-coding schema in "Defense Mapping Agency (now NIMA) standard, Mapping, Charting & Geodesy Glossary of Feature and Attribute Definitions, MIL-STD-2408, April 1995". The schema has been modified to be an eight-digit/three-part schema with its own definitions for the use of values within each part. The eight-digit code is made up of a two-digit Category code, followed by a two-digit Sub-category code, and then a four-digit Sub-feature code, for example:

    Category + Sub-category + Sub-feature

    11 22 3333

Pitney Bowes Software will facilitate the transition to miCode by retaining the old codes for the time being. These will eventually be phased out as miCode gains familiarity and acceptance. A MapInfo format miCode lookup table is supplied with StreetPro.

  • StreetPro NewZealand Product Guide

StreetPro Projection / Datum StreetPro tables are provided in a longitude / latitude coordinate system projected to the World Geodetic System of 1984 (WGS 84). This is a commonly used geo-centric datum which allows the the projection to be used at a global level and facilitates, for example, compatibility with positions derived from Global Positioning Systems (GPS satellites).

    B – File Naming Conventions

Pitney Bowes Software has applied a street naming standard closely aligned to the provisions of AS/NZS4819:2003 and AS4590:2006 Standard Street Naming & Addressing documents.

StreetPro New Zealand Street centreline names are spelt according to the following rules:

    • All characters are upper case. • Only alphanumeric characters are permitted: apostrophes,

commas, hyphens, and periods are not used. Exceptions are roads named with a number, e.g. NO 32 RD. The ampersand “&” character is also permitted where it has common usage, e.g. COBB & CO L.
