Seven (7) highly educated, experienced, and trained Counselors Strong Emotional/Behaviorally Disabilities (EBD) background and experience High energy Relentlessly positive There to support schools Not afraid to Get their hands dirty Slide 6 The Student Services Support Team is: Analogous to Curriculum Support Specialists (CSSs) Academic Coaches The goal of the Student Services Support Team is to provide support to school site Student Service professionals much like academic coaches provide support to subject area teachers Student Services Team is to Student Services as Curriculum Support Specialists are to subject areas Slide 7 The Student Services Support Team wants to pump..you up!!! Slide 8 What can the Student Services Support Team aka the SUPER7 do? They cant leap tall buildings in a single bound! They cant stop a bullet! They cant outrun a speeding locomotive! But, they can help with: Attendance Behavior Academics Slide 9 The SUPER7 can assist with: Early Warning Systems Classroom Lessons/Visits Leaps Lessons Attendance Monitoring Functional Analysis of Behavior (FABs) & Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Modeling Mentoring Counseling (Brief, Episodic, Crisis, Time-limited) Professional Development Classroom Management Elements of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Whatever else that will improve, help, support or assist the school Slide 10 Who are the SUPER7: Tracie Neal Anissa Sheffield Jacqueline Hazel Marie Colin Jeanmarie Jones Debra Phillips Rosie Brown Slide 11 The SUPER7 Routine Primarily elementary schools and some K-8 Centers receive services Teams of two SUPER7 Counselors (one team for each region: North, Central, & South) visit schools for a three (3) week period with a follow up revisit three weeks later Schools are determined by Dr. Moore, Assistant Superintendent and the Region Superintendents There is an initial meeting with the schools leadership team prior to a SUPER7 team being deployed Each school is unique and has individual needs The idea is to support, not point fingers, make demands, or criticize..we are there to help to the best of our abilities The schools leadership team is surveyed at the end of the deployment period Slide 12 Schools visited by the SUPER7: Bunch Park ES Dr. Henry W. Ensuring all children enter school cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally ready 2. Ensuring all children read at grade level by 3rd grade 3. Ensuring all youth graduate from high school 4. Ensuring all youth complete post-secondary education or training 5. Ensuring all youth out of school are employed 6. Ensuring all youth remain safe from violent crime Thats what My Brothers Keeper is all about. Helping more of our young people stay on track. Providing the support they need to think more broadly about their future. Building on what works when it works, in those critical life-changing moments. - President Barack Obama, February 27, 2014 Slide 21 The Creating Community Change Violence Prevention Project (CCC/VP2) Grant Was a highly competitive grant that was awarded to 22 school districts by the United States Department of Education (USDOE) This grant will fund four 12 month School Social Workers and one full-time School Resource Officer (SRO) Slide 22 The Creating Community Change Violence Prevention Project (CCC/VP2) Grant The expected outcomes of the grant are as follows: Enhance the districts capacity to increase prevention and direct services to students at-risk for or affected by violence at the four identified high schools. 1. North Miami Senior High School 2. Miami Carol City Senior High School 3. Miami Central Senior High School 4. Miami Southridge Senior High School Facilitate added preventative support to the K-8 Centers and Middle Schools within the feeder patterns of the four identified high schools. Reduce incidents of the following indicators at the identified schools: Reduction in school arrests. Reduction in bullying/harassment incidents. Reduction in crisis incidents Reduction in teen dating violence incidents. Reduction in incidents of human trafficking. Slide 23 The Future of Student Services Includes: REGIONAL CENTER Number of Counselors on each team North2 Central2 South3 Region Superintendents and the OAT will identify schools having a high counselor/student ratio and/or in immediate need of additional Student Services support at the elementary level. Slide 24 Deployment Timeline Length of deployment will depend on the need of the school and will be determined by the Region and the OAT. Generally, the period of deployment will be three weeks. Region/OAT meetings will occur every grading period, and as needed, in order to ensure that services are being maximized. An online log will be maintained by the counselors and reviewed regularly by the Region and/or the OAT in order to monitor continuing needs or re- deployment to another school site. Slide 25 Student Services Support Team Framework Week One: Observation, Assessment, and Planning Redesign Enhancements Week Two: Program Implementation and Modeling Week Three: Monitoring and Feedback *Follow up visits will be conducted three weeks later in order to provide additional support, answer questions, and provide guidance. Slide 26 Overview of Procedures for Student Services Support Team Doug Lobo, Instructional Supervisor, will arrange a meeting with each schools administrator and counselor prior to the team being deployed. Additional detailed information will be provided to school site personnel and protocols for Student Services Support Team Counselors will be discussed. Slide 27 Student Services - Support Deployed counselors can provide assistance in the following areas: School data review and analysis with Student Services Team Group counseling sessions on topics requested by the school (bullying, healthy relationships, grief, etc.) Immediate assistance with the current issues that have arisen in the school Leaps program Classroom presentations Academic advisement/awareness Attendance/tardiness/truancy interventions Individual counseling for students demonstrating need through Early Warning System analysis Parental workshops, as requested by the school Components of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Building the capacity of the school-site Student Services team Slide 28 Assistance with Data Analysis for: At-risk students Lowest 25% students Students with Early Warning indicators Truancy/Attendance Reports Course failure listings Retainees Slide 29 Student Services Support Team Round One Schedule Suggested Schools 9/15-10/3/14 First Round (Three weeks) North Region: Skyway Elementary School Central Region: Henry E. S. Reeves Elementary School South Region: Bowman Ashe/Doolin K-8 Academy * Student Services Support Team will revisit school in three weeks (the week of 10/27/14) in order to follow up.
