Cyera has been interning for Assemblymember Chris R. Holden, District 41. The internship program is coming to a close, but Cyera plans to stay on for the rest of the legislative session. Hometown: San Bernardino, California Major? Minor? Double Major? I am working on a Political Science Major and I plan to start an Economics Minor. Anticipated graduation date: Excited to say I will be a part of the spring Class of 2017. Most inspirational instructor / professor: Dr. Elizabeth Matthews has such an immense wealth of knowledge but the most humble personality – she is someone I admire, greatly. Your favorite class: Political Science 370: Foundations of Political Thought taught by Professor Cyrus Masroori. Your favorite place on campus: Kellogg Library study rooms are awesome. I enjoy working with my peers on assignments or reviewing lecture notes with my best friend Melody. Favorite CSUSM moment: I always enjoyed UHour. It is refreshing to be around enthusiastic and passionate people. Three things I have with me at all times: 1. Lip balm or Chap Stick 2. A book – currently it’s Bossypants by Tina Fey 3. A snack, usually BelVita Breakfast Biscuits or a Cutie Favorite Quote: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

What  motivates  you  to  succeed?    My  husband,  Ulises  is  the  most  caring  person  I  know  and  he  has  been  extremely  supportive  of  my  passions.    Whenever  I  feel  down,  he  reminds  me  that  I  am  capable  of  10  times  more  than  I  can  fathom.    His  dedication  and  candor  motivates  me  to  succeed.          Who  has  inspired  you  the  most?  How  did  they?    My  grandmother,  Peggy  Burnett  is  from  a  small  town  in  Pennsylvania  and  her  parents  expected  little  from  her.    Still,  she  managed  to  join  the  Marine  Corps,  obtain  a  Nursing  Degree,  raise  a  family  of  six,  and  travel  to  185  countries  while  dedicating  her  spare  time  to  teach  underserved  children  throughout  the  globe.      My  grandma  has  always  encouraged  me  to  set  high  goals  and  to  never  give  up.    She  inspires  me  to  be  the  best  that  I  can  be.        One  item  on  your  bucket  list:  It  may  seem  impossible  now,  but  I  want  to  go  to  the  Moon.    What  is  your  short-‐term  goal?  Where  do  you  see  yourself  in  five  years?    In  the  near  future,  I  plan  to  graduate  from  CSUSM.  Once  I  complete  Graduate  schooling,  I  will  apply  for  the  Assembly  Fellowship  Program  to  further  engage  and  participate  in  the  legislative  process  with  the  ultimate  goal  of  working  at  our  nation’s  Capitol.      Plans  after  graduation?    Upon  graduation,  I  will  either  attend  Law  school  or  begin  a  Master’s  program.
