Student Teaching Weekly Log Directions: Answer these questions each week and email them to your student teaching supervisor by Sunday evening. Name: Christa Kordik Week: 2 (Jan. 20-23, 2015) 1. How did you spend your time this week? What responsibilities did you have? This week was my first full week of teaching bell to bell. Along with this new responsibility, half way through the week my teacher and I had decided that it was time for her to not be in the room anymore. I got a lot of questions about where she was from the students, but after I told them they were completely fine with it and saw me as their “teacher.” 2. What were your most satisfying experiences? What were your most challenging experiences? I think the most satisfying time was when the week was over with and I had time to reflect with my cooperating teacher. I realized that I had gone through the whole week doing bell to bell and with her not in the room. Another thing that went very well is just how much the students are learning from day to day. I can see it after the lessons and I think it is just awesome seeing the progress that they are having. My most challenging experiences would have to be classroom management in two of my classrooms. They happen to be the last blocks of the day and have the most students in them. It is great to know that it isn’t just me that has experienced it because I have talked to my teacher about it. My goal for this week is to really work on those two class and set boundaries with them in order to make sure that we are doing our work. It is also hard when it is a few students that are being disruptive and encourage the other students to be as well. The last challenge that I had this week was I had a student tell me that she wanted to switch classes because this girl in the class had been saying mean things to her. I then experienced it hands on when the other student said out loud, “why is she even in this class”

Directions: Answer these questions each week and email them to your student teaching supervisor by Sunday evening.

Name: Christa Kordik Week: 2 (Jan. 20-23, 2015)

1. How did you spend your time this week? What responsibilities did you have? This week was my first full week of teaching bell to bell. Along with this new

responsibility, half way through the week my teacher and I had decided that it was time for her to not be in the room anymore. I got a lot of questions about where she was from the students, but after I told them they were completely fine with it and saw me as their “teacher.”

I then experienced it hands on when the other student said out loud, “why is she even in this class” and “no one even likes her.” I settled the situation at the moment and discussed it with my mentor teacher how to approach it from here on out.

3. What are the plans for the upcoming week? This week the thing I want to focus on is differentiation and classroom

management. I think that I have come to the point where my lesson sequence and what I have planned for the day is going smoothly, so I want to make sure that I am challenging myself with other things. Towards the end of the week they will also be finishing up with assessments that we are doing which is either a quiz/test or a project.
