Welcome

Thank you for your interest standing in the B&FC Students’Union Elections!

We can categorically say that being an Elected Officer of your Students’Union will give you the kind of skills employers are looking for.

Standing in Elections is your chance to be the voice of students atB&FC. There is no limit to the amount of experience that you could gainffrom being an Elected Officer, or the activities that you may be involvedwith during the year. Our officers lead, develop, create ideas and makechange for students at all levels within the College.

We offer all of our officers full training, so the only real experience youneed is the experience you already have in being a student at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

Your key role will be to represent the views and interests of the studestudent population at Blackpool and The Fylde College. With your help,the student voice will be heard, important issues will be addressed, andchanges can be made.

Give students a voice about anything to do with college life, whether thatbe their course, resources, accessibility or enrichment opportunities.

Engage in partnership with the college calendar for items such as Freshers Week, Fairtrade Fortnight, Go Green Week and Equality Month.

Organise gigs and trips as well as fun events such as seasonal fairs and charity days.

MMost of all, we respond to what B&FC Students tell us they want!

SU Sabbatical Officer

The Higher Education and Further Education Presidents are the main representatives of thestudent body at Blackpool and The Fylde College and are responsible for the leadership and direction of the Students’ Union.

The Presidents are expected to involve as many students as possible in the Students’ Union’s activities and have overall responsibility for Union relations with the students of B&FC, the college Senior Management Team (SMT) and external organisation such as the National Union of of Students (NUS)

Presidents are also expected to organise SU Executive Committee meetings at least once every three college weeks, ensure that Vice Presidents are fullling their job descriptions and meet with their fellow President and Director of 14-19/Director of HE at least once a month.

SU Presidents organise the agenda for the Student Forums, co-chair the forums with the Sabbatical Officer and are responsible for following up on student reps’ feedback in time forthe next forum.

IIf over 18, the President is a co-signatory to the Students’ Union cost-code

HE/FE President

A Sabbatical Officer is a full-time, paid Students’ Union Officer who is electedby students to facilitate and support the Student Union for a xed term basis of 12 months. They act as a focus for the student voice and represent the student body on issues that affect their overall welfare and learning experience.

The SU Sabbatical Officer is a Higher Education position, only open to students graduating this year with a BA/BSc.honours degree.

Vice Presidents

Vice Presidents of the Students’ Union are the Head Student Reps for their School area and make up the Students’ Union Executive Committee.

As either Higher Education or Further Education Vice President for your School, you will be expected to do the following:

Coordinate the Student Reps in your School Area and make sure they get involved in theUnion’s activities.

Keep in Keep in regular contact (a conversation at least once every 2 weeks) with your Student Voice Coordinator.

Attend all Students’ Union Executive Committee meetings that do not interfere with yourtimetable of study.

Maintain a Students’ Union notice board in your School area that includes a photo of youand how students can contact you - use your college email - DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL EMAIL, FACEBOOK or PHONE NUMBERS

MMake sure any posters, minutes or feedback from the Students’ Union are displayed in your School area and that NUV is being delivered.

Together with your Student Voice Coordinator, organise a School Forum every term.

Organise or coordinate at least one charity fundraising event in your School area.

Make yourself available to attend college focus groups and act as a marshall at Students’ Union events.

Make yourself available to staff the Students’ Union office for at least one hour per week.

Make B&FC BetterWhat would you change about B&FC?Past Students’ Union Officers were involved in the APR Programme reviews, learning, teaching and scholarship meetings, Wednesday afternoon enrichment, including over 25 clubs and societies and were national runners-up for Officer Team of the Year in the 2014 NUS Awards.

2.2. Be Part of the Decision Making What decisions would you make?Students play an important role in the management and development of B&FC by contributing in the college quality assurance processes.

3. Be the Voice Be the voice for your students, college and union.Elected Officers have represented B&FC Student Union around the UK at various cconferences. This could be you!

4. Career Prospects Gain valuable skills that will help you for the rest of your career.Over 100,000 students graduate each and every year recruiters look for candidates with more than just a degree. The skills you will develop during your time as an elected union officer will make you stand out from the crowd!

5. The Thrill of Campaigning PPast B&FC candidates have enjoyed taking part in the elections,whether they were successful or not.

From nominating yourself, creating a campaign team, writing a manifesto or chatting to your fellow students, it’s all part of the experience of running for election.
