Summer Math Packet Information (Rising 8th Grade)

This summer we are using Khan Academy as the basis for our summer math practice. Your task will be

Although it says 4th grade math, you will be working on the fundamental skills necessary to be successful in your

Algebra class next year. Also, I assure you the concepts will challenge you by testing your pre-existing knowledge as

well as teaching you new concepts. So, do not freak out when you click 4th. We don’t know why Khan lists it as 4th.

Log on to Khan, select Subjects and then select 4th or if after reading the assignment you need to select PreAlgebra, do

so.

If you are asked to take a Mission Warm Up do it by selecting Get Started.

Your summer assignment depends on the number of skills not started.

If the number of skills not started is more than 40, your assignment is to Practice all of the 4th Grade Math mission. You will work until the number of skills not started is zero.

If the number of skills not started is less than 40, your assignment is to Master all of the 4th Grade Math mission. You will work until the number of skills not started is zero AND you will take Mastery Challenges until you’ve mastered all of 4th Grade Math.

If you’ve already Mastered 4th Grade Math or if you know you’re registered to take Algebra One next year,

you need to aim to master 5th Grade Math and complete at least 40 skills in the PreAlgebra Mission. If you finish your assignment and want to keep working, work to master the PreAlgebra mission and

beyond.

The skills not started are indicated by the green arrow. To select a skill to practice, click on the Practice bubbles on the

right side of the screen. You’ll be taken to that Khan skill, and when you correctly answer the required number of

questions in a row, your points will total and you’ll come back to this 4th Grade mission screen. With each skill you

Practice, the number of skills not started will decrease by one. Taking Mastery Challenges will not decrease the

number of skills not started as Mastery Challenges only ask you about skills you’ve already Practiced.

If you have any questions over the summer, reach out to [email protected]. Do your best!

Look forward to seeing you next school year!!
