Christmas is the time of year that brings out the best in most of us. The chill of the air, the hustle and bustle of the stores, and the excitement of family and friends coming together is something that we all look forward to. However, it’s easy to miss the true meaning of the season if we are not careful. I’ve had several Christians throughout the year ask me for advice on how to “not” miss the true meaning of Christmas.

Insulate, don’t isolate – I view Christmas as a “both-and” and not an “either-or”. You and your family can take part in the many traditions of Christmas AND celebrate the true meaning of the holiday that Christ the savior has come into the world. Don’t miss out on building relationships with those in your neighborhood by isolating yourselves from certain cultural events. Instead, join those around you and show them that you care about them and those in your neighborhood. Have a Birthday Party! Each year my family and I light a Christmas Candle before opening presents and sing happy birthday to Jesus. This ensures for those with small children that you pause in the moment and place your focus on the most important thing. Invite a friend or family member to Christmas Eve service. Christmas and Easter are the two most visited church days in the country. Statistics show that the #1 reason someone visits church in this country is because a friend or loved one invited them. Want to really celebrate Christmas? Help point someone in your neighborhood or workplace to the most important gift they could ever receive.

Following these simple steps will help shine a brighter light on the true mean-ing of Christmas. I pray you have a great Christmas Holiday, and I hope to see you at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve for our Communion and Candlelight Service.

Blessings!

Terry

We try to answer ques-tions and supply information that is needed as people make decisions about a church home or a place where they can serve and have their spiritual needs met. Volunteers are needed as this team needs to grow as our church does. Please call Tim Delaney, 449-6679, or the church office to volunteer, or if you know of someone with interest in OVBC.
