“From Start to Finish” “From Start to Finish”

I hope 2014 has been a brand new “Start” for many of you! Prayerfully,

you’ve joined our church in reading through the Bible this year. If you

would like to start that journey, feel free to pick up a one year Bible at the

information desk after service. Speaking of “Start”, we’ve been talking

about how we can have a great start this year and finish 2014 well.

One individual who has embodied this, is Suzanne Gaff, who has served

faithfully on our staff team for the past 12 years. On January 24th, Suzanne

will “Start” a new phase in life called retirement! We are all so thankful for

her many years of service, and look forward to celebrating her contribution

to our church at both services on Sunday, January 26th. There will be

baskets provided in the foyer on that day for you to place a note of thanks

for Suzanne. Join with me as we thank her for her faithful service here at

Ocean View during our worship services on Sunday, January 26th. We will

miss you Suzanne!

Blessings!

Terry

Dr. Jerry Robertson is beginning a new Bible Study on II Corinthians on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This is a stand-alone study and everyone is invited to a%end (I Corinthians is not a prerequisite). Dr. Robertson will take it verse-by-verse and delve into Paul’s correspondence with one of his most difficult churches. The words of Paul are both corrective and inspirational and give the reader a feeling of the heart and passion of Paul for winning the lost to Christ. There will be an overview of I Corinthians at the beginning of the study for those who are joining this study, so no one will feel lost on the subject ma%er.

Greetings!Greetings!

NEW Wednesday Bible Study!NEW Wednesday Bible Study!

Wouldn’t it be exciting if the majority of OVBC joined together

to read through the Bible in 2014? Be a part of this as together

we read the same passages each day!

You may purchase your “One Year Bible” at the Information Counter on

Sunday morning. This special Bible will help facilitate your reading as the daily

sections are clearly marked and include both an Old Testament and New

Testament portion each day. Let’s see what God will do!

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

Financial Peace University! We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God’s ways of handling money. FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. You’ll laugh as you learn money skills and participate in entertaining class activities. This 9-week study takes place on Wednesdays at 6 pm in Room B104. Sign up online at ovbc.org or call the Office, 843.449.3384. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity!

► FUSE is our 10 a.m. Sunday morning student gathering. Meet in the 7202 building (Contemporary Worship at 9 a.m. and Traditional at 11:10 a.m.). Our goal in FUSE is to connect Pastor Terry’s message to our students’ and parents’ lives in a transformative way. We begin with a short application straight from Pastor Terry’s message, before breaking into small groups to answer the question “What one thing do I need to change TODAY to apply this to my life?”

The following groups are available: High School Guys High School Girls College & Early Career Middle School Guys Middle School Girls Parents of Youth

► ATTENTION – Parents or Adult Volunteers are Needed!!! Call Jennifer Bodge for opportunities to help with Student events, 843.241.0445 (call or text) or [email protected].

American theologian Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) became focused on his life’s purpose at age 19. The result was 70 resolutions, or commitments, he wrote down and then read every week for 35 years until his death.

Some of those resolutions include: ◊ To live with all might while I do live. ◊ To study the Scriptures… steadily, constantly and frequently. ◊ Never to lose one moment of time. ◊ Never to do anything which I should despise or think meanly of in another. ◊ Never do anything out of revenge. ◊ To let there be something of benevolence in all that I speak. ◊ Never to do anything which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life.

FX - Family experience Next FX meets on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at 10:05 a.m. All children in Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to bring your parents for a Family eXperience where kids and parents learn about God together.

TRIBES meet on 1/19 & 1/26/14 10:05 a.m. After creative large-group Bible exploration, children meet in small groups (Tribes) with a dedicated adult leader to discuss more about God’s Big Story, make friends, and share life experiences as they find a place to belong.

January Life App & Memory Verse:

Life App: Knowledge—discovering

something new so you can be better at

whatever you do.

Memory Verse: “God has breathed life

into all of Scripture. It is useful for teach-

ing us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for

making our lives whole again. It is use-

ful for training us to do what is right.”

—2 Timothy 3:16, NIrV
