“Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope,

where everyone is welcomed, loved and forgiven.”

(H.H. Pope Francis)

The Latin Patriarchate

The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) was restored in 1847, and since then is promoting the best interests of the local communities it serves. Today, the Patriarchal Diocese oversees about 180,000 faithfuls in four countries, Palestine, Israel, Jordan and Cyprus, covering a rich tapestry of cultures, languages, religions and traditions. Serving all with special emphasis on the support and care of indigenous Holy Land Christians remains the enduring mission of the Mother Church, the Latin

Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

The City of Jubeiha

The village of Jubeiha is situated on the North Eastern outskirts of Amman, about 10kms from the city center. When the parish was established in 1991, the surrounding countryside was mostly agricultural land with little housing. Gradually, more and more houses are being constructed as people move from the center to more pleasant surroundings. The construction work has accelerated in the last four years with the building of a large University and Government School. The residents are mostly from the well-educated sector of society, being employed in professional or business areas.

Background of the Project

The project of Completion of the Construction of St. Paul’s Church in Jubeiha, Jordan was originally an initiative from the parishioners and the parish priest of Jubeiha in 2016 to have a church building that they can pray and celebrate all liturgical events. By local and private contributions, the initiative was made possible and the construction works of the church have started. However, lack of funding has resulted in freezing the project. For more than one year, the parishioners of Jubeiha did not have a suitable place for them to celebrate liturgical masses or events and were praying in Jubeiha school hall temporarily until the construction works of the church will be finalized. With the generous donations from the EOHSJ, and by the help and support of the Grand Magisterium in Rome, the construction works of the church have resumed and by mid December 2017, Phase 1 of the Church construction was completed by finalizing the basement floor of the new church building which in the future will be the grand parish hall and related facilities.

Over the years, the Christian population in Jubeiha has increased to reach approximately 1,900 Christian families. Hundreds of them attend the Church every Sunday, and many are always active in the parish activities and pastoral events. For this reason, the scope of work of the project was adapted and a new budget proposal was approved by the Grand Magisterium to enlarge the church setting to accommodate about 800 persons instead of 400 as previously proposed. The work resumed in March 2019 and expected to be finished and completed in June 2020.

Project Description

As part of the big project Completion of Construction of St. Paul Church in Jubeiha supported by the generous donations of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, there are some additional works that are needed and was hoped to be covered by local contributions and private donors. However, since the value of these works added up, it ended up difficult to solicit the funds locally.

One of the additional works required to complete the project is the supply and purchasing of 207 Church benches of different sizes measuring 220, 240, 280 and 140 cm to accommodate the Christian faithful attending the church for different liturgical events and masses. The old pews that were used in the old church and now moved to the school hall across the street will be reallocated in the Church when the construction is completed.

Beneficiaries

The direct and ultimate beneficiaries of the project are Jubeiha parishioners that were celebrating the holy masses in the School’s Church because the parish church is not fully constructed yet. 1,900 Christian families will be attending the church on Sunday masses, weddings, funerals and the different liturgical events as soon as the construction works at the parish church will be completed. Moreover, church visitors, the priests and the sisters’ community will be benefited from this project. The indirect beneficiary of the project is the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, that strives to provide the best for the parishioners and all faithful, and to allow the continuity of the LPJ biblical mission in serving its communities in the Holy Land.
