T o see the way we greet each other on a given Sunday morning

before church begins; to observe the glow on your faces as you

reconnect after a weeks’ absence; to know that here in the

sanctity of this church we all give and receive something of great value,

fills me with a sense of wonder. We have something here – a gift, that is

not easily discovered in the world around us. Though she probably did

not have this specifically in mind, Maya Angelou wrote a poem about it.

Alone

Lying, thinking

Last night

How to find my soul a home

Where water is not thirsty

And bread loaf is not stone

I came up with one thing

And I don't believe I'm wrong

That nobody,

But nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Is there a greater truth? We need each other – the world over, we need

each other. Sometimes we forget about that and slide off on our own.

Has that happened in your life? Are you in need of reconnection? Life is

hard. Let’s reattach, renew, rejoin, hook up, bond again, link together,

unite, join forces. ―Nobody, but nobody can make it out here alone.‖

See you Sunday? Love, Bob

Our sympathy and prayers are extended for Debbie Staab,

Michelle Bosworth and Jill Gregory along with their families, in the death

of their mother, Norma Gregory on Wednesday, October 5

A very special "Thank You," and with it, you will find sincere appreciation

for all of the support during our time of loss. Your generosity and

beautiful sentiments have been so very kind. It was wonderful to see so

many of you at Hope's Celebration of Life. Thank You for your support it

means a great deal to us.

Sincerely, Dvak, Crystal & Zoe Corwin

When troubles come

Have you noticed that things often seem to fall apart all at once? It could

be a string of financial setbacks. First the refrigerator goes out, then the

car won’t start and then the roof starts leaking. Or maybe our

relationships break down or our career unravels.

What can we do when hardships threaten to overwhelm us? Peanuts

character Charlie Brown said, ―I only dread one day at a time.‖ But we can

do better than that.

We can take a deep breath, cling to God’s hand and keep walking

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Ralston Family, I would like to extend my thanks to Jeff

Mowry, Nick Rega, members of the VIM Committee along with John Littrell

and Nick Roller for their time in remodeling our bathroom. It looks and

works great. Once again, thanks to all that helped in His Name.

The Ralston Family

Dear Friends at Barry Christian Church,

Thank you for your cards and prayers.

We are participating once again with Operation Christmas Child. This Christmas season, a needy child

overseas will receive your shoe box, filled with gift items, along with Christian literature in his or her own

language.

Plastic shoe boxes and brochures available at the back of the Sanctuary. Just sign for how many boxes you

want to fill and check off your name when you bring them back. You can use your own shoeboxes if you

prefer.

There are also Videos and DVDs that can be borrowed on back table, or log in to web page to view .

From the Youth Director:

Communication is like electricity: if it isn’t distributed correctly, a lot of people are left in the dark!

After one month here at Barry Christian Church, I know I’ve left people in the dark sometimes—and I

do apologize. I’m learning all the ways we have of communicating with each other, like this newslet-

ter, and working to get to know everyone better.

Sunday morning was an awesome time serving the homeless at Grand Avenue Temple in downtown

Kansas City. Nine youth from our group made the trek down to serve: Sophia Bostick, Patrick Bos-

tick, Sam Bostick, Zoe Corwin and her friend Brooke, Ashley Henry, Ali Rogers, Alyssa Sawyer, and

Andy Sawyer. Crystal Corwin and Stephanie helped me with transportation, and Crystal was able to

stay and help serve the meal. We were joined by my daughter and her Girl Scout troop for many

hands that made light work!

In the worship service at Grand Avenue Temple, Ali Rogers courageously set an example by volun-

teering to sing in the ―stand-up‖ choir; and Sophia and Patrick Bostick quickly joined her. I sneaked a

picture from the back of the sanctuary so you could all enjoy the moment with us.

It’s been a wonderful first month at Barry Christian Church, and I’m looking forward to the

future with you! Make sure you attend Youth Group on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 5:00-

7:00pm for a special event. We will get to know each other better, and each of us will create

a candy model of our ―Christian DNA.‖ It promises to be a fun, delicious, and empowering

evening!

Don’t knock your enemies. Don’t knock yourself.”
