th year of Lionism! It is with 129
a great sense of honor and pride to have been entrusted 130 to serve as your District Governor this year. 131 During the course of the year, there will be 132 much discussion with regard to the Centennial program. 133 This is a worthwhile endeavor and will not take a great 134 deal of time and effort for all of our clubs to take part. 135 Our District has a Centennial Coordinator. They, as well 136 as the District Governor Team, would be happy to assist 137 you. 138 In keeping with the model established by PDG 139 Bert Colley, the District Team will continue to distribute 140 visits among the team. Should you require a visit, from 141 me, please contact me. We are working to ensure that, 142 when a Lion moves into the role of District Governor, 143 they are familiar with the District. 144 My theme for the year is “Scripture, Tradition 145 and Reason”. When I was in Seminary, our professors 146 taught us that we should not do anything without all 147 three of these things being in place. As we move forward 148 in the 21
st century, let us not always be bound by a sense 149

2943 The office of the District Governor is the highest 2944 authority within our District. The Lion who holds this 2945 office, your District Governor, was chosen because of 2946 his/her exceptional talents and dedication to Lionism. 2947 Accordingly, proper recognition and respect for the 2948 District Governor requires the careful attention of the 2949 Clubs within the District. No one means to be 2950 inconsiderate and, certainly, not rude, but sometimes 2951 under certain circumstances we lack the information to 2952 guarantee a smooth meeting. The following list of 2953 suggestions may prove helpful. 2954 2955 1. Do not have any other programs during the District 2956 Governor’s official visit. The Governor is the program. 2957 2958 2. Publicize your District Governor’s visit to ensure 2959 excellent attendance. 2960 2961 3. Have a member (preferably a Past President) meet the 2962 District Governor and keep him/her entertained until 2963 dinner. It is acceptable procedure and order in all 3018 club meetings, so that when expanded for special 3019 occasions, the club will treat visiting dignitaries with 3020 proper respect. 3021 3022 Protocol and courtesy go hand in hand; courtesy being a 3023 “favor performed with politeness,” is always in order. 3024 Guests will appreciate it, and new members who are 3025 made to feel welcome will feel at home and part of the 3026 club.
