The Washington State Department of Ar-chaeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP) an-nounced Monday that applications to request funding through the Heritage Barn Rehabili-tation Grant Program are available. Part of the state's Heritage Barn Preservation Initia-tive established in 2007, the grant program assists with rehabilitation projects designed to stabilize and preserve designated Heritage Barns across the state.
Since the program's inception, Heritage Barn Grant funding has provided assistance to 46 Heritage Barns throughout Washington. "This program is made possible because of the tremendous dedication and passion owners have for their historic barns," said Jerri Hon-eyford, Chair of the Barn Advisory Committee that oversees the initiative. "Washington's ag-ricultural heritage is a rich component of our state's history and we applaud those who con-tinue to serve as stewards of these remarkable structures."
Rehabilitation grants are awarded through a competitive application process. In three funding rounds, the Barn Advisory Committee has reviewed nearly 240 grant applications. Criteria for funding include, but are not lim-ited to, the historical signi� cance of the barn, urgency of needed repairs, and provision for long-term preservation. Priority is given to barns that remain in agricultural use.
"The Heritage Barn Preservation Initiative has achieved the objectives of saving historic barns while raising awareness and educating the public about the role agriculture continues to play in terms of economic development and heritage tourism," noted DAHP Director Dr. Allyson Brooks. "Washington State now boasts over 500 designated Heritage Barns spread across all 39 counties statewide, and our agen-cy looks forward to building on the success of the program in the coming biennium."
Historic agricultural structures listed in the Heritage Barn Register, the Washington Heri-tage Register, or the National Register of His-toric Places are eligible to receive grant funds. To be eligible for listing in the Heritage Barn Register, barns must be over 50 years old and retain a signi� cant degree of historic integrity. All nomination/application materials related to the Heritage Barn Register and the Heri-tage Barn Rehabilitation Grant Program can be downloaded from DAHP's Web site at dahp.wa.gov/heritage-barn-register. Grant applications are due on Mon., Oct. 28 2013, with grant awards slated to be announced in early 2014.

Washington state's register of heritage barns.
Posted online Mon., Aug. 26The Chinese Reconciliation Park in Tacoma will
host the sights and sounds of many Asian cultures in September when the Chinese Reconciliation Proj-ect Foundation presents its second annual Tacoma Moon Festival.
The Moon Festival is a popular Asian celebration of abundance and togetherness dating back over 3,000 years to China's Zhou (pronounced "joe") Dy-nasty. Since the festival models the traditional Moon Festival celebrated in China, the festivities and ac-tivities will feature Chinese and other moon legends and, as the festival closes at nightfall, a parade of lanterns led by the Moon Princess. The festival will also feature music, dance, and theatrical performers from a number of heritage communities, from Asia and the Paci� c Islands to Europe and Mexico, who have made their homes in the Tacoma area. The festival will also include live entertainment and hands-on activities for adults and children. Festival goers will enjoy a variety of ethnic foods in the food court, including moon cakes, the Chinese pastries traditionally served during the Moon Festival. The food court will also feature a wine and beer garden. The festival will run from 12 p.m. noon to 8 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 21 at the Chinese Reconciliation Park, located at 1741 North Schuster Parkway.
Last year's festival drew nearly 4,000 attend-ees, and more are expected this year. Major event sponsors and supporters include AAT-TV, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, City of Tacoma, City of Taichung (Taiwan), Click! Cable TV, East Asia Su-permarket, Arlene Joe and Richard Woo, James and Eileen Kelley, KO-AM TV, Korean Women's Associa-tion, Local 76 IBEW, Paci� c Lutheran University, Paci� c Nephrology Associates, Port of Tacoma, Ra-dio Hankook NW, Inc., Tangram Design, and Uni-versity of Puget Sound.
Organizers for the festival are seeking commu-nity volunteers and involvement from the greater Puget Sound area to support the Tacoma Moon Fes-tival as it returns to Tacoma's waterfront. III.The defaults for which this foreclosure is made are as follows:
(a) Failure to pay the following amounts which are now in arrears:
(i) Failure to make the interest pay- ment in the amount of $3,562.52 when due on March 1, 2012.
(ii) Failure to pay the late charge of $178.13 when due on March 11, 2012.
(iii) Failure to make the principal and interest payment of $6,393.42 when due on April 1, 2012.
(iv) Failure to pay the late charge of $319.67 when due on April 11, 2012.
(v) Failure to pay the entire acceler- ated principal balance of the Loan and all accrued interest upon Lender’s de- mand on April 30, 2012.(b) Failure to pay 2012 and the first half of 2013 property taxes, interest and penalties.
IV.The sum owing on the obligation se- cured by the Deed of Trust is: Principal $950,003.21, together with interest as provided in the Note from the 1st day of March, 2012, and such other costs and fees as are due under the Note secured by the Deed of Trust, and as are provided by statute.
V.The Property will be sold to satisfy the expense of sale and the obligation se- cured by the Deed of Trust as provid- ed by statute. The sale will be made without warranty, express or implied, regarding title, possession or encum- brances on the 6th day of September, 2013. The defaults referred to in Par- agraph III must be cured by the 26th day of August, 2013 (11 days before the sale date), to cause a discontinu- ance of the sale. The sale will be dis- continued and terminated if at any time on or before the 26th day of Au- gust, 2013 (11 days before the sale date), the defaults as set forth in Para- graph III are cured and the Trustee’s fees and costs are paid. TENANTSThe purchaser at the trustee’s sale is entitled to possession of the property on the 20th day following the sale, as against the grantor under the deed of trust (the owner) and anyone having an interest junior to the deed of trust, in- cluding occupants who are not ten- ants. After the 20th day following the sale the purchaser has the right to evict occupants who are not tenants by summary proceedings under chap- ter 59.12 RCW. XI.SPECIAL NOTICE TO GUARANTOR
Pursuant to RCW 61.24.042, Guaran- tor is hereby notified as follows:
(1) Guarantor may be liable for a de- ficiency judgment to the extent the sale price for the Property obtained at the trustee’s sale is less than the debt secured by the Deed of Trust.
(2) Guarantor has the same rights to reinstate the debt, cure the default or repay the debt as are given to the Bor- rower in order to avoid the trustee’s sale.
(3) Guarantor will have no right to r e - deem the Property after the trustee’s sale.
(4) Subject to such longer periods as are provided in the Washington Deed of Trust Act (RCW Ch. 61.24), any action brought to enforce a guar- anty must be commenced within one (1) year after the trustee’s sale, or the last trustee’s sale under any deed of trust granted to secure the same debt.
