At Career Services, we believe that thinking and talking about purpose should be a fun, creative, and lifelong process. So, we will have some "What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?" art journals on hand to help children creatively identify some of their primary abilities, interests, and desires to help others. We will also have several "Career Peers" on site to help participants learn about some "purposeful careers" that would align with their skills, passions, and ways they want to make the world a better place. MSU Bikes Service Center—Times: 10:30am, 2:30pm Location: The old canoe shelter/livery. Entrance is ON THE RIVERTRAIL. MSU Bikes overlooks the river and faces Erickson Hall. The only deck on the river is right in front of the Center (434 Farm Lane, B10 Bessey Hall). Get a tour of the MSU Bikes Service Center, one of only a few university-owned bike shops in America! You'll also learn some basic bike maintenance and some riding tips that will help you have a more enjoyable and safer ride. Visitors will receive a bike light and stickers! Staff members from the MSU Museum, the University's science and culture museum, will share information about their careers, provide resources/activities, and answer questions. Museum activity guides will be also available throughout the day. The Michigan State University Museum is the state’s natural science and culture museum and Michigan’s first Smithsonian Institution affiliate. MSU Power & Water—Time: 1:30pm—2:30pm (Note: tour is one-hour long and an RSVP is required) Location: Meet at front entrance of the MSU Power Plant on the east side of the building to meet the tour guide (354 Service Road). Observe the process used to supply energy to the campus community through the T.B. Simon Power Plant. The unit will need names of all those attending for security reasons prior to the tour. Closed-toe shoes are required. High ambient noise and temperature may be experienced inside the plant, walking on elevated gratings (no skirts please) and stairs may be encountered during the tour. National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (SITE TOUR)—Time: 8:30am Location: Cyclotron lobby—entry door in curved glass section of building on South Shaw Lane and next to Chemistry (640 S. Shaw Lane). Explore a world-class rare isotope laboratory where nuclei are smashed into a target at half the speed of light! The tour includes demonstrations, an introduction to the goals and methods of nuclear science, and a walk behind the scenes where nuclei are accelerated, filtered and/or studied. National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (CAREER EXPLORATION)—Time: 9:30am Location: Cyclotron lobby—entry door in curved glass section of building on South Shaw Lane and next to Chemistry (640 S. Shaw Lane). Get hands-on with a model “nucleus” that you can accelerate and smash to make isotopes that don’t exist on Earth, but might be made in stars. Try several demonstrations that simulate the research done in MSU’s National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (and future Facility for Rare Isotope Beams)! Office of Education Abroad—Times: 9:30am, 10:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm Location: International Center, Room 109 (427 N. Shaw Lane). If you could make a flag just for you, what would it look like? Come "Build-A-Flag" with the Education Abroad Peer Advisers! Markers, stencils, and paper will be provided for you to hoist your creativity to a new level.
