NYXWith a reported membership of 3,476 women, the Mystic Krewe of Nyx

reclaims its number one position in the number of members of any krewe in Carnival history. The parade features 44 fl oats provided by New Orleans fl oat builder Phil Fricano. Reigning as Goddess Nyx IX is Sandra Nix. All riders will wear costumes that display the krewe’s name. The theme will remain secret until pa-rade time. The procession annually features more than 120 units. Krewe logo throws include Nyx signature hand-decorated purses, t-shirts, kites, car coasters, LED clappers, playing cards, lighted batons, and purse-shaped doubloons for the captain and the offi cers. A special fl oat and throws will pay tribute to the late Nancy Parker of FOX 8 TV. The ball is scheduled for February 1, 2020, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

The Mystic Krewe of Nyx, named after the powerful and beautiful goddess of night, embraces a sisterhood and friend-ship amongst its members. In 2018 the Krewe of Nyx earned the prestigious title of the largest parading krewe ever in Mardi Gras history. The Nyx organization is also one of only two Mardi Gras krewes with its own license plates issued by the state of Louisiana. www.kreweofnyx.org

DRUIDS

Filling an empty slot on the parade calen-dar in 1998, the Ancient Druids wanted to provide New Orleanians and visitors with a fi rst-class parade one week before Fat Tuesday. The parade has since moved to Wednesday. The club is comprised of Car-nival veterans from several other Orleans Parish parades and is based upon the original Mystic Krewe of Druids, whose parades followed the Rex processions from 1922 to 1935. The present day club calls its king the Arch Druid and a jester accompanies him on the king’s fl oat. The Golden Acorn Society sponsors the Druids Carnival activities.

The 250 men of Druids claim they are direct descendants of a club that was organized in 1915, and they have reclaimed the name, the Mystic Krewe of

Druids. The 2020 parade is their 22nd since their triumphant return. The krewe has no queen or court and does not stage a ball. The traditional-style, satirical parade is reminiscent of the night processions of the past. The parade theme is not divulged until parade time and the identity of the Arch Druid—the king—is never made public. The club plans a parade of 18 fl oats, decorated by Ducote Designs, including a new “Consultant’s” fl oat, along with some of the original Druids’ parades of nine decades ago. Throws include lighted wands, lighted poly beads, umbrellas, lighted clappers and plush golden acorns. In addition to anodized doubloons in gold, black, green and red, a special gold doubloon, shaped like an acorn, will be thrown.
