girls staying in dormitories in Saint Gertrude’s College and the boys at Saint Ildephonsus College. The entire Year Group came together for 11 sessions, listening to our teachers’ stories and breaking off into small groups. During our spare time, we wrote affirmation letters to each other, reading them on the Thursday evening. Lots of tears were spilt that night. The Year 12 Retreat was a heart-warming experience, with memories that we will treasure, and we look forward to future Year 12 students having a similar experience. On behalf of the Graduating Class of 2019, we would like to thank Mr Donaldson, Mrs Johns, Mr Marshall, Mr Swindells and Mrs White, our Year 12 Care Group Teachers, as well as Kayla Wolmarans and Kallum Erikson, Prefects from Class of 2018, for enabling us to slow down and reflect upon on our past, present and future directions. The following Year 10 students were successful in their application for the GREaT Nursing Work Experience Program in our public hospitals. The program is highly competitive and with only around 130 positions available state wide and over 700 applicants, it is such an achievement to be accepted. This is our highest success rate for this program. Mrs Erin Gallen Vocational Education Coordinator Year 11 and Year 7 Peer Support Experience Working with the Year 7 students this term as a Peer Support Leader has been very rewarding. Entering high school for the first time can be very overwhelming, so as a mentor creating a comfortable environment for the new students and to be someone they can rely on, is very important. During our morning sessions together, we enjoyed games, got to know more about one another, shared advice and had group discussions on a range of topics students asked about. I asked some of the Year 7 students what they liked about the Peer Support experience and they were happy to share their thoughts. Josh: “I enjoyed Peer Support because it was fun and great”. Samara: “I enjoyed the company of the Year 11 students. I also enjoyed the games and getting to know everyone better.” Madison K: “I liked playing the small, fun games and the shared lunch. I enjoyed the discussions, talking about school, tips on making school easier, homework and tests.” Cian: “I enjoyed the comfort that the Peer Support Leaders show, and I love how we could ask questions about what is happening and what help we can get. I truly enjoyed having them come to our classroom.” As one of the Peer Support Leaders, I look forward to spending more time developing relationships and supporting the Year 7 students in their first year at the College. any language and provided a great incentive for students to really focus on their language skills. Thank you to Mademoiselle Harrison and Sensei Bonarrigo for setting it up, and for all the students who participated in this event. Lucy Abbott, Year 8 Dunlea A UN YOUTH VISIT Year 10 students from Global Leadership and Commerce and Law electives were visited by Kareem from UN Youth Australia. Kareem spoke to students and gathered their ideas to report back to the UN General Assembly. Students were asked to state their opinion on a few statements, such as whether they were excited about the future, whether they felt well prepared for the future and whether politicians represented them adequately. Students lined up according to how much they agreed or disagreed with the statements. The wide spectrum of answers and discussion they provoked demonstrated the diversity of students’ opinions on these issues.
