Milton Public School Swimming

Carnival

Thursday, 9th February will see all our primary students head to the Milton Village Pool for our annual school swimming carnival. With an emphasis on participation, we hope to see as many children as possible having a go and earning valuable points for their house. Students turning 8, 9 or 10 this year will be competing in the morning, 9:45am – 12:00pm and students turning 11, 12 or 13 this year will compete in the afternoon, 12:30pm – 3:15pm. Permission notes have been sent home and house captains have been selected. Children are encouraged to wear their house colours and ensure they have plenty of sunscreen, a hat, t-shirt, water and sunglasses for the day. Each house has a designated area and students are expected to remain in the sheltered area unless participating in an event. This makes the job of cheering for your house, supervision and safety much easier. We thank our parents and community for their cooperation. House colours are: Bass – Blue, Cook – Green, Flinders – Yellow and Tasman – Red.

School Sport Swimming

Our school sport program for swimming for Years 3 to 6 will commence the week beginning Monday 13th February. Sessions are held in the afternoon. A note will be sent home this week outlining details of these sessions. Year 6 - Monday (6R, 6T, 6D) Year 5 - Tuesday (5M, 5S, 5R, 5T) Year 4 - Wednesday (3/4J, 4W, 4A, 4C, 4MC, 4TS) Year 3 - Thursday (3C, 3H, 3D, 3MC, 3TS)

Parent News eVersion

Kindergarten parents and others - How would you like to receive your weekly parent news? We would much prefer to send the newsletter direct to your nominated email address/es. Please complete the slip at the end of the newsletter to indicate your preference.

Year 1 to 6 Students

At Milton PS we ask that all families supply a box of tissues and glue stick to their class to help with resources in the school. All donations should be handed to your classroom teacher. A comprehensive list of required resources for each grade has been sent home with a welcoming letter.

Scripture 2017

Scripture classes will commence Tuesday 14th February. We thank all our scripture leaders for volunteering their time to provide this service for children. Students will be attending the same classes as last year unless a written request to change is received from a parent. We will do our best where possible to accommodate these requests. To assist with the smooth running of classes and minimise disruptions, we ask that your children remain in the same group wherever possible for the year.

Updating Emergency Information

It is important that the school is notified when emergency contact information changes. If you have recently let your landline phone number go or have updated to a new mobile phone we need to know. In the case of an emergency, if parents cannot be contacted it is advisable to have another local adult who can be contacted. Please call in to the office and let the office staff know of your new or updated emergency contact details.

Year 2 Poetry

In class last week we explored Summer through our five senses. Here are some of the poems created by our new Year 2 students. Summer looks like the crunchy sand at the beach Summer sounds like children laughing Summer tastes like a nice drink of lemonade Summer feels like lots of sweat dripping off my body Summer smells like dad cooking on the BBQ I really enjoy Summer By Grace 2M Summer sounds like sizzling sausages on the BBQ Summer smells like fresh flowers Summer looks like kids playing on the hot sand Summer tastes like yummy fish and chips on the beach Summer feels like very hot sand on the beach By Oscar 2M Summer looks yellow and blue Summer smells like the BBQ Summer feels like the waves Summer looks like underwater caves Summer tastes hot I like Summer a lot By Harley 2E

Checks Required for all Volunteers

Each year a new ‘Working with Children’ declaration or the sighting of a current ‘Working with Children’ certificate is required prior to volunteers commencing at school. We appreciate all the help given by parents and friends who assist in the classroom, canteen, sport and Volunteer Reading Tutor programs and would be grateful if all volunteers could complete a ‘Working with Children’ declaration at the office. Please remember to bring your 100 points of identification. Working with Children declarations are available from the school office or online.

I am setting up a Hairdressing Play Area in my classroom. If you have an old hair dryer, straightener, rollers, ribbons, hairclips or anything related to hairdressing it would be greatly appreciated.

COMMUNITY NEWS

The following articles have been submitted for inclusion in our parent newsletter and are not part of Milton Public School curriculum.

Milton Ulladulla Basketball

Milton Ulladulla Basketball's Aussie Hoops will recommence on Thursday 9th Feb. Aussie Hoops is on Thursday afternoons. Years K-2 4:00 - 4:30 3-4 4:30 - 5:30 5-6 5:30 - 7:00 Years 3-4 and 5-6 have training and a game each week. K-2 is a fun, game based 1/2 hour to develop basketball skills with a game once and awhile. Fees for Aussie Hoops are payable by the term and equate to $6.50 per week. This includes registration and insurance. New kids are welcome to come along and try it first for a week of two. You can now get online and signup. Go to www.aussiehoops.com.au Enter our postcode (2538) and your age group. There are 2 signup options: New participant (includes Aussie Hoops backpack,

singlet, ball) or Returning There will only be 5 sessions this school term. We have the Milton Show followed by the resurfacing of both courts which while an inconvenience is very exciting to be getting revamped floors with new line markings on Court 1. If you have been thinking about getting your kids involved, it is never too late and this is why you should......... Basketball is a great sport for kids as it develops fitness, hand/eye co-ordination and teamwork. The best bit for parents is that training and games are during the week, (so you have weekends to yourself), games are inside (so you and your kids are not standing around in the heat/ rain/ cold) and there are no expensive uniforms or equipment required (just a pair of non-marking sneakers and a $15 singlet). No need to book. Just come along the first week and introduce yourself to Shannon at the front desk and the coach. Please contact us here on Facebook or email [email protected] if you have any queries regarding signup.
