Principals Message Welcome back everyone, I trust that you are pleased and perhaps a little relieved that school is back as we start Term 4. Once again I’m writing this a few days in advance so that I hit the ground running on Day One - the weather forecast at this point is for very warm days on Monday and Tuesday. So you may be reading this having been through two or three unexpectedly hot days. Hopefully this will not be a sign of a particularly hot summer ahead. Once again there is lots on this term that I am looking forward to. K-2 students will start the Term 4 swimming program this Friday (please see reminder info further on); the students in Stage 2 and 3 that have elected to participate will enjoy an excellent basketball skill development program during sport on Fridays; we begin the process of helping approximately 50 new kindergarten students settle into our school through the orientation program; we move towards all the important end of year activities such as our Presentation Day Assembly and Year 6 Farewell; and all the while we start to review the 2015 school year and ramp up our planning for the 2016 school year. It will no doubt be a busy and fast moving term. I’d like to thank and congratulate our Year 6 students for organising a wonderful Year 6 Fun Day at the end of last term. Their planning, organisational and dare I say ‘marketing’ skills, guided by Mr Jardine and Mr Carlin, were excellent and I was impressed with how focussed they were on ensuring that ALL our younger students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There were lots of popular activities, but I think the students themselves would say the ‘haunted house’ was their favourite. Well done Year 6 and thank to the parents of our Year 6 students who kindly donated many of the items and prizes that contributed to making the day a success. A full report from the Year 6 students themselves will be included with some photos in next week’s newsletter. Lastly, congratulations to Mrs Wann who became a grandmother during the holidays! Looking forward to a great term ahead. Principals Message

Welcome back everyone, I trust that you are pleased and perhaps a little relieved that school is back as we start

Term 4. Once again I’m writing this a few days in advance so that I hit the ground running on Day One - the

weather forecast at this point is for very warm days on Monday and Tuesday. So you may be reading this having

been through two or three unexpectedly hot days. Hopefully this will not be a sign of a particularly hot summer

ahead.

Once again there is lots on this term that I am looking forward to. K-2 students will start the Term 4 swimming

program this Friday (please see reminder info further on); the students in Stage 2 and 3 that have elected to

participate will enjoy an excellent basketball skill development program during sport on Fridays; we begin the

process of helping approximately 50 new kindergarten students settle into our school through the orientation

program; we move towards all the important end of year activities such as our Presentation Day Assembly and

Year 6 Farewell; and all the while we start to review the 2015 school year and ramp up our planning for the 2016

school year. It will no doubt be a busy and fast moving term.

I’d like to thank and congratulate our Year 6 students for organising a wonderful Year 6 Fun Day at the end of

last term. Their planning, organisational and dare I say ‘marketing’ skills, guided by Mr Jardine and Mr Carlin,

were excellent and I was impressed with how focussed they were on ensuring that ALL our younger students

thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There were lots of popular activities, but I think the students themselves would

say the ‘haunted house’ was their favourite. Well done Year 6 and thank to the parents of our Year 6 students

who kindly donated many of the items and prizes that contributed to making the day a success. A full report

from the Year 6 students themselves will be included with some photos in next week’s newsletter.

Lastly, congratulations to Mrs Wann who became a grandmother during the holidays!

Looking forward to a great term ahead.

Brain Cancer Support Mark Hughes was able to join us at our communication assembly this morning to thank our staff and students for their support of the Beanie for Brain Cancer day and it also provided Asher Marsh with the opportunity to personally present Mark with a cheque for the money he raised for shaving his head at the end of last term. Through Asher’s efforts and our earlier Beanie for Brain Cancer day we raised a total of $902.20. K-2 Swimming The K-2 swimming program kicks off with the first lesson this Friday. Students are reminded to bring swimmers, a towel, goggles, a swimming cap and a plastic bag for wet items. Swimming caps are compulsory at Viking Fitness, if your child does not have one; please send an additional $3.50 with them to their first lesson so that they can purchase one from the Viking Fitness venue. Where possible, it is best if the students can wear their swimming costumes to school in the morning underneath their uniform. The teachers will expect that the students will be able to get changed themselves (unassisted) including socks and shoes. If your child is not yet independent in this regard, please have a few practises at home this week. Finally, please ensure all items are labelled. Skoolbag App update We received advice from Skoolbag late last term that Apple are planning to send out an update to the operating system iOS 9.0 on the 16th of September. For our I-Phone and I-pad users, Skoolbag will continue to work with this new operating system, however they have suggested to warn users of Skoolbag that when the Beta version of iOS 9.1 is released in a couple of months’ time, not to download it as Skoolbag is not yet compatible with this format. More information can be found on the Home page within the Skoolbag app itself (see ‘Important Notice’). Ukulele Lessons in Term 4. Ukulele lessons at Cardiff South in Term 4 are happening with Mark Jackson and Dianne Murray after school on Wednesdays. These classes help children develop skills well beyond just the music, singing and the ukulele. To join the fun and start music lessons at a relatively low cost, register now at www.jukestra.com, or call Mark on 0430 434 291.

Welcome to CSPS News, today we interviewed some of the schools fabulous touch football players we had

some excellent reviews. Here is what we found from the junior boys team; Ben Cornish said when we asked

these Questions. “Question 1, did you enjoy the day?” “Yes it was very fun and exciting”. “Question 2, what was

your favourite part of the day?” “My favourite part of the day was hanging out and socializing with my friends”.

”Question 3, who performed the best in your team?” “I think Riley Butet played well, he was fair and was very

sensible.” Question 4, how many games did you win?” “We won ¼ games but we tried hard, played fair and just

had fun. “Question 5, who did you play?” “We played Elemore Vale, Plattsburg, Glendore and Glendale East

public schools. We had lots of fun and hope to play next year.

The next interview we did was the senior girls touch team. Jemma Matheson was asked the same questions but

had different answers. The answer to question 1 was yes, because we had lots of fun and played our hardest.

Question 2 was playing the sport we love with our friends. Question 3 Jemma said, “Amy was our star of the day

because of her sportsmanship”. Question 4 the senior girls touch team proudly won 3 out of 4 games. Question

5 both senior teams played Garden Suburb then Plattsburg, Elemore Vale and finally Glendore. We all had fun

and played our best.

That’s it for CSPS NEWS see you next time. Nathan and Daniel

4G Solar Ovens In the last week of Term 3, 4G were lucky enough to create our very own solar ovens and cook s’mores. They only took one and a half hours to bake! We worked in pairs with specific criteria and certain constraints, such as having only limited resources and it had to be transportable. We were all very surprised with the quality of the ovens that we produced. First we all picked a box and painted it black, because we researched that black absorbs heat. We then drew our design, before making it out of basic materials such as newspaper, gladwrap and foil. As we had lots of fun creating and cooking in our solar oven, we learnt lots of things along the way. We used the foil to reflect heat, some of us used newspaper as insulation and covered our openings with cling-wrap. Then we were ready to cook our smores. Our hottest oven reached 65 degrees Celsius! We evaluated our ovens and found that the best design was the smallest, insulated with newspaper, painted black, had many reflectors and the gladwrap had a good seal. We decided that small ovens had less air to heat, black absorbed heat, foil reflected heat, newspaper insulated the oven and the gladwrap trapped the heat in. The best thing was…they were YUMMY!

HMRI – holiday fun

Thanks to Mrs Grant who organised for interested students to participate in the HMRI open Day on Friday 25th

September. The HMRI put on a great event and the students, their siblings and parents thoroughly enjoyed the

day. Below a few students have made recounts of the event, acompanied by some photos.

Caleb Thompson (2G): During the holidays, I went to the HMRI Open Day near the hospital. There was so much

science to do and it was so much fun! The top level of the building was all about bacteria. My favourite

experiment was the one where I separated white blood cells from red blood cells. It was a great day.

Ben Hartley (2G): The HMRI Science Open Day was a lolly-filled science wonderland. It explained all about

germs, how Scientists cure people and other mad science. I saw many great things such as: a police car, a fire

engine, a fake toilet seat with lollies in it and a film about robots playing soccer. There were lots of labs to

explore but I only went in one. Inside the lab were five microscopic cameras that see tiny bacteria on your skin.

A scientist put a shiny thing on my finger and I had to pick up the glowing glow stick. Everything I did could be

seen on the computer screen. I also had my blood pressure tested and watched lots of interesting experiments.

It was a really fun day!
