Term 2 - Week 2 Thursday 10 May 2018
Dear Parents/Carers My thanks to all the families who supported our Mothers Matter Breakfast this morning to celebrate Mother’s Day and the importance of all mums as they help and guide their children to be the best people they can. It was a well organised, relaxing social event on a chilly, but beautiful day. I would like to recognise the outstanding effort of our P&C in coordinating this event and the support given by our wonderful parents to ensure its success. A huge thank you goes to all the dads and mums who assisted with the BBQ and the other stalls that make this a special morning for the mums. Thanks also to all our wonderful teaching and administration staff for the variety of ways in which they contributed to making the event so successful. I have included some photos taken this morning and some more at the end of this newsletter. Some more great photos will appear on our digital screens this week. What a busy Week we’ve had! Cross Country! CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS
On Monday 7 May 2018, years 3-6 (plus some year 2 students)
participated in our school cross country carnival under beautiful
conditions. This year we were back at Scarborough Park and it was
awesome to see so many students participate enthusiastically in the cross country run. The students
had a great day playing oz-tag, novelty relays, tug-o-war and with the large Earthball. Thank you to
all the students who left the grounds clean and who showed terrific behaviour all day.
Congratulations to the following students who finished in the first 4 positions at Monday’s carnival. The first four
runners from each age group* will compete at the zone cross country on Thursday 24th May at Scarborough Park.
*Please note at the zone carnival, the 8 and 9 year age groups are run as one event and at our school carnival we
timed these runners to select the fastest to compete at zone. Zone teams will be finalised by Ms Boesen and
permission notes need to be returned to the office as soon as possible.
Students who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be presented with trophies (1st place) and ribbons (1st, 2nd and 3rd) at our
next Stage 2 and 3 School Assembly on Monday 14 May (Week 3 Term 2).
Finally, we would like to congratulate ROYAL BLUBELL (Blue) House on winning the carnival! Students in this house
will be given an ice-block to celebrate their win on Friday 18th May!
Thank you to all the students and staff for a great day.

As part of our Music Curriculum, African Beat presented a highly interactive drumming performance by one of West Africa’s top cultural troupes The Salaka Ensemble performed at Carlton Public School today. “Salaka” means “Sharing” in the Ga language of Ghana. The performance immersed students in the rich culture and rhythms of Africa, in an entertaining and educational way. Best of all – it was all hands on! They brought hundreds of drums to our school, every student and teacher played an authentic African rhythm. The students learned a traditional African song and experienced African dancing. Thanks for Mr Omar for organising this wonderful experience for the students. They certainly had a fabulous time.
