It’s hard to believe we are at the half-way point in Term 2 already! We are very excited to welcome all students back to school for full-time face-to- face teaching. We have had a great resumption to full time learning at Belmont North PS. Classrooms have been filled with the wonderful sounds of learning and students have enjoyed reconnecting with their teachers and friends. While there are still some restrictions to our in-school activities, there is a feeling that we are slowly ‘getting back to normal’. Visiting the classrooms this week, I could see how keen our students are to be re- engaged in their learning and how much they were enjoying doing so. We are all looking forward to seeing what the rest of our term holds for getting right back into the swing of school. Additional Support Our school has been allocated extra staff for the remainder of this Term to assist teachers and students with the return to full-time face-to-face teaching and learning. We would like to welcome both Natasha Fearon and Alaine Kowalski who are with us two days per week for the rest of the Term. The extra staff allows for targeted intervention in literacy and numeracy across all classes which has been well received. We look forward to sharing positive data and learning stories with you about the amazing things happening across the school in coming weeks.

Welcome Back!

It’s hard to believe we are at the half-way point in Term 2 already! We are very excited to welcome all students back to school for full-time face-to-face teaching. We have had a great resumption to full time learning at Belmont North PS. Classrooms have been filled with the wonderful sounds of learning and students have enjoyed reconnecting with their teachers and friends. Principal’s Report Continued…..

Reports Semester 1

We wish to acknowledge and thank all of our parents and students for the amazing and supportive manner in which you have responded to the challenges associated with the COVID period and ongoing education.

Reflecting the unique nature of learning during this period the NSW Department of Education has determined that it is most appropriate for schools to provide parents and carers with a modified student report for Semester 1, 2020.

Our reports this Semester will focus on the learning that has taken place this year which includes individual student’s progress and achievement of the learning provided both at school and at home with guidance to move learning forward.

The A-E scale normally used will not be utilised this Semester. Student Attendance will be reported for the periods of schooling excluding the COVID Remote Learning time frame. Attendance relates to Term 1, Weeks 1-7 and Term 2, Weeks 5-10.

At this point in time the Department has determined that Parent Teacher conference are unable to go ahead in the usual face to face mode of operation. In response we will conduct Parent/Teacher phone conferences in Week 3 of Term 3.

If you have any concerns or require additional information please make contact with the school to arrange a discussion with your class teacher and/or the school executive.

Reconciliation Week Students in 3/4G learnt about and celebrated National Reconciliation Week with Mrs Mandas last Friday.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Parking Rules Around Our School

Dear Parents & Carers,

Lake Macquarie City Council would like to remind parents, carers and all road users to park safely when dropping their children off and picking them up at school.

Please be mindful of where you are parking when picking up your children and minimise any parking on nature strips where there is the potential to cause damage, especially due to the recent heavy rainfall. There has been recent damage in Nulkara Street which has been rectified by council.

Parents and carers should leave themselves plenty of time for the school drop-off to avoid rushing and inadvertently parking illegally. Parking or stopping on or near a pedestrian crossing, double parking or parking in a bus zone put children’s lives at unnecessary risk and attracts hefty fines.

Parking signs around schools are designed to protect children and it is timely that we remind parents to obey these parking signs when dropping off and picking up children from school.

Parking restrictions near schools that provide a safer environment for children include:

'No Stopping’ zones - you must not stop your vehicle at any point on the road or kerb, unless there is a medical or other emergency;

No Parking’ zones - you must not leave your vehicle parked or unattended. You may stop in a No Parking zone for a maximum of two minutes to immediately pick up or set down your child and drive off as soon as possible;

‘Bus Zone’ – you are not allowed to stop your vehicle in this area;◦Pedestrian and children’s crossings – you must not stop within 20m before and 10m after a children’s crossing or pedestrian crossing; and Council officers are patrolling local schools and issuing fines for breaches and offences to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all school students, particularly younger children.

‘School Zone’ Drivers are also reminded to slow down in the police-patrolled 40km/h school zones. A school zone is the area around a school with a speed limit of 40 km/h. Between the 'SCHOOL ZONE' and 'END SCHOOL ZONE' signs you must obey the school zone speed limit.
