HANWOOD SCHOOL WEB PAGE NEWS

Our school’s web page has recently been re-built and now has some new features. I have included an Events page. You will be able to see the closest events to the current date on the main page, however if you go to the Events tab (top of page) you will see all the up and coming events for the school. There is also a provision to add these events to your personal calendar on your smart phone. In the Events section all permission notes and other information will be added (if applicable) for parents and carers to access from here. If your child misplaces a note, we now encourage parents to retrieve another from the Hanwood Public School webpage.

SOCCER SUCCESS

Well done to both our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, who have both made it through to the grand finals after defeating their opponents on Tuesday at Hanwood Sports Oval. The boys played against Parkview Public School and won convincingly by 5 goals to nil. The girls played against Deniliquin Public, also winning 5 goals to nil. Both teams will now travel to Wagga to play in the grand finals against Wagga South. Congratulations to both teams and a huge thank you to the coaches, teachers and parents who have supported both these teams.

CONCERT VIDEO

Our Hanwood Concert will be captured on video by La Dolce Films. Parents will be able to purchase the video in either DVD form or on a USB stick. The cost will be $35 with $5.00 from every sale being donated to our Breakfast Club program. Ell Horton from La Dolce Films will have a table in the foyer at the Griffith Regional Theatre on Wednesday night of September 4th. Parents can pay directly via EFTPOS or cash. Thank you to Ell for kindly donating a portion of the profits back to our school.

1/2K - MRS CECCATO

Did you see our ‘show don’t tell’ display in the foyer in weeks 3 and 4? We have been learning how to show a character’s feelings through what they might be feeling, thinking and doing. We weren’t allowed to the words; happy, sad, angry or surprised. Before we started to write our own individual pieces, we worked in groups so we could help each other write some really descriptive paragraphs. Here are some of our examples. Sara is thinking ‘Ahh!’ She is feeling panicky. Her heart is pumping fast. She is standing still like a stick. Then, she moves under her bed and snuggles up in a ball. Sara felt that weak that she thought she was going to die. Flakey is thinking, ‘Oh no!’ She is stiff. Her jaw drops. She is screaming and she has goose pumps. She runs away. Harry was thinking, ‘Why me?’ His eyes were closed and tears were pouring down his cheeks. His body was weak and her lip was drooping like the rain.

STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT - MRS JULIE NAPOLI

Mrs Napoli is passionate about sun and skin protection. She loves spending time with her two beautiful granddaughters and also has another grandchild on the way. Mrs Napoli also enjoys playing tennis, reading and craft.

BREAKFAST CLUB

We hold Breakfast Club every Tuesday and Thursday morning. This morning the students were offered: Strawberries, banana,

mandarin, watermelon & kiwi fruit;

Crumpets; Muffins; Toast; Warm Milo & juice; Porridge Three different choices of

cereal. Approximately 60 students attended Breakfast Club this morning. Thank you for all the kind donations. At this point we have a huge amount of cereal to get through, so we will not be needing any for a while.

SHAVE FOR LEUKAEMIA

Flynn Edis (Year 6); a fighting survivor of Leukaemia, is shaving his head on the 20th September to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Please help him reach his goal!! He is taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave. He has also convinced Mark St Baker to shave his head and beard and Miss Lucy Capstick will also cutting her long locks. Miss Simone Amaro will be allowing Flynn to choose any colour to dye her hair in support of this great cause (he has chosen bright pink). Flynn’s goal is to raise $2000 and he is already well on the way to achieving this. Let’s support him and hopefully exceed his goal. You are able to sponsor him through a donation at our school or go to our Facebook page and donate directly via the link. It is great to see so many of our community already supporting him and this very personal journey.

The Shave will occur at a special assembly on Friday 20th September at 2:30.

5/6L - MISS CAPSTICK

5/6L Class News.

Stage 3 have been working hard getting their concert item ready and perfect in time for our September show. Each student has a special part throughout our dancing performance and we are keen to share, come September! In writing, we are finishing up some of our informative writing tasks created this term. We enjoyed learning facts about the worlds organisms and have been lucky enough to enjoy some nice weather and sunshine for our flexible learning options outside in the sun. Other Key Learning Areas are keeping us busy too. We are investigating Indonesia this term for Geography, animal adaptions for Science and learning about resilience and friendship for Personal Development.

OUR PPC APPROACH

At Hanwood Public, we have introduced a wellbeing program that we refer to as the PPC. This is a PROACTIVE, POSITIVE and CONSEQUENCE model, whereby parents are contacted by teachers to inform them of: Great things their child is doing; Discuss small issues that have occurred BEFORE they become big issues; and Consequences that have occurred due to continued behaviour that is not acceptable. We are finding that the behaviour issues are becoming less as a result of parents and teachers working together and nips in the bud any potential issues becoming serious. It assists parents and teachers to work together to enhance the positive relationships we have at Hanwood Public School. Our school mantra is that it is “Cool to be Kind” and our proactive phone calls are as-sisting us to create this culture with in our school.
