Letter from the Principal Parents, Students, and Community Members, Theendoftheyearisquicklyapproaching!Thefirstthree9weekshavecomeandgone,andwearerightinthemiddleofthetestingseason.WehavehadsomanygreatthingshappenthisyearfromBraveNation.Wehavesuccessfullyfundraised to send agroupof students toEurope, have aGatesMillenniumscholarshipfinalist,officiallymovedourAthleticProgramstoUnderArmourthroughBSNSports, achieved thehighest schoolgradegains in thedistrict,developed a partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital to provideinternships for our students, made it to the State Cheerleading Competition, wonaStateWrestlingChampionship,andsomuchmore!WOW,whatayearsofar. I lookforward tofinishingout theyear justasstrong. Icontinue toencourage communitymembers,parents,Alumni,andbusinesspartnerstogivetimeandresourcestoassistTerryParkerHighSchoolinhelpingourstudentsmoveclosertomakingtheirdreamsareality.IfyouarefortunateenoughtosupportTPHSfinanciallyyoucanmakeadonationinanyamounttoTPHSanditisataxdeductibledonation.Thesefundswillgodirectlybacktosupportingourstudentswithadditionaltutoring,technology,supplies,andevenfoodforthoselessfortunate.Thereisnobetterwaytosupportourcommunityotherthanthroughouryouth.GoBraves! Brave Nation Travels to
FSU for Physics Experience Sixty-threestudentsrecentlytraveledtoFloridaStateUniversitytotourthephysicsdepartment’slinearacceleratorandplanetariumaswellastheMaterialsInstituteandtheHighFieldMagneticNationalLaboratory.The two buses used for transportation were funded by the college’sVicePresidentofResearch,Dr.KirbyKemper.The tripwashostedbyDr. Winston Roberts, physics professor, andwelcomed to campus byDr. Susan Blessing,physics professor and administrator for the college’sWIMSEprogram (Women inMath,ScienceandEngineering).Thestudentshadagreat time seeing Physics in action!

CIS TheCommunitiesInSchoolsprogramatTerryParkerprovidessupportandresourcestoabout100studentsinvolvedintheprogram.WhileSiteCoordinatorsworkindividuallywithselectstudentsfromtheschoolbody,hundredsofothersreceiveservicesfromwholeschoolinitiativeslikefieldtrips,financialsupportforbooksandotherclassroomneedsandparentengagementactivities. Communities In Schools programs at Parker include Teen Trendsetters,wherehighschoolstudentsgotoParkwoodHeightsElementarySchoolonceeachweektoreadwithandmentorasecondgradeclass.ThisisagreatexperienceforboththeParkwoodHeightsstudentsaswellasthehighschoolmentors. Manyof theCISstudentsalsohaveadultmentorswhomeetwith thematParkeronaregularbasis.Theserelationshipsareonemorewaytohelpsstudentstostayinschool,graduateandbecomeproductiveadults. AnotherCISprogram is ourSummerSTEMAcademy.Offered for a twoweekperiodduringthesummer,SummerSTEMengagesrising g’hand 10’hgradersinscience,mathandtechnologythroughavarietyofclassesandactivities.Moreinformationaboutthissummer’sprogramwillbecomingsoon.
