PRESIDENTS REPORT

Well this month has flown past and we are as busy as ever.

I would like to thank those who have put their names on

rosters, they are important to the continuing success of the

Club.

I only wish we could have found people to do the marshalling

for the Tri – the $1000 would have been very handy.

The Cooroy Car Show was a great earner and they begged us to come back next year.

The Australia Day event is gathering momentum and this time it looks bigger than ever.

With United Synergies on board to help with marketing, their local youth homeless and

head space programs have been nominated for funding from this project.

The PayPal reader is almost set up, just a few minor adjustments. This will make it so much

easier to take fees at parking etc.

I have been looking forward to the Convention at Gympie, and hope it will be a great event

as most Conventions are. We are still looking at holding one.

The new kitchen looks great, and thanks again to John and Ian. John is looking at the roof

now.

Remember if a roster comes your way PLEASE put your name on it.

NEWS FROM THE BOARD – Secretary Paul Beeston

Who’s Who in the Zoo

With a club our size, it is often difficult to know who is doing what. This is a bit more confused

because of our club motto’ this year:

“Sharing the Load”

The President (Lion Chris P), Secretary (Lion Paul B) and Treasurer (Lion Mike O’B) do all the

traditional things eg. Presidential things, Secretarial things and money things. The Immediate Past

President (David Watts) looks after new and current members.

David is also the District Q4 Cabinet Secretary.

Lola McDonald is our Zone Chair.

The real work is done by the Vice Presidents and they need all the help they can get. The list below is

not exhaustive. Ask a VP what else they do in their ‘spare’ time.

VP1 Trevor Luff (Luffy)

Brekky Club

COC Carols

ANZAC Day

Van Cleaning. Service Projects eg.

Wesley landscaping

VP2 Janelle McDonald

Kids Tri

RSL Fair

VP3 Dagmar Orlicek

Point of Sale terminal. Tewantin Noosa enters the world of commerce. We now have a ‘cash

register’ that will make it easier for Lions serving and taking money. This means you can all

forget the mental arithmetic that you have all forgotten anyway. Just press a button and the

price of a hamburger will pop up.

Lions Clubs International are asking clubs for ‘legacy’ projects to commemorate the

centenary of Lions. If you have any ideas please let a Board member or Mike Roach know.

Watch this space.

Rosters. With the busy time of the year starting please remember why you are a Lion. This

time of the year we earn the funds that enable us to help our community and the wider

community. See “Future Dates” below.

Car Parking. You may have seen some news about the Council increasing the cost of parking

in the local press. While the Council is taking the lion’s share (no pun intended) we will not

miss out. Our ‘cut’ per car is slightly higher that under the previous arrangement.

RECENT HAPPENINGS

District Convention

Gympie, 29/30 October

Report from President

Chris Pullin

What a great convention that

was , some parts were a little

dragged out and not relevant

others interesting ,thought

provoking and that is what makes

Conventions different , The two Leo's Kody

and Emily who were Sargent at Arms and

did a great job keeping everyone in line and

on time .

The guest speakers were excellent, from

the Leo of the year Jesse Pascoe, Youth of

the Year winner Riley Salter and Youth

Insearch participant and leader, Joe Horvat

Page 6: Tewantin Noosa Lions Club Inc. The Pelican Brief November 2017 · 2017-10-30 · Camp Duckadang working bee.(10-12 Nov). Lola McDonald gave a brief description of Camp Duckadang and

Michelle Trute, CEO Diabetes Qld.

Ms Dianne Morgan from Volunteering Australia

M.D. Treasurer Lion Bruce Unwin

And to finish the day with Past International

President Barry Palmer, what a day full of news,

tears, exciting new ideas, thought provoking

forum and club challenges.

I know I had a great time and that Janelle

McDonald did as well. Maybe next year we can

get more to come to Coolum.

BBQ in aid of Katie Rose Cottage at their Garage Sale – Report by

Jay Roach

A hardy group of Lions’ members swapped cap & apron for snorkel and flippers to assist Katie Rose

Garage sale on Saturday 21st October by supplying sumptuous sausages.

Although crowds of people didn’t fight their way through the puddles & rain, there were plenty of

smiles & chatter & great people to chat to under the Porta shade.

The new CEO of Katie Rose, John was most appreciative of our bbq with beautiful smells wafting

inside to tempt those browsing.

Thanks again to the Lions who rallied to the cause and willingly gave their time.

Lions Den Kitchen

Work on installing the new

kitchen is virtually completed.

But due to continuing problems

with the leaking roof, the kitchen

needs protection. Note the

carefully placed bucket. We still

wait to see if we are getting a

grant for our roof replacement.

In the meantime John Pritchard’s

‘patching’ skills are keeping us

(fairly) dry.
