THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE14
Tucson Walkaround
Position1:HOOD
Feature andAvailability Function SPACCED Benefit
Aerodynamic Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 Styling
Exterior design elements like the lip at the bottom of the front bumper, the curvature of the A-pillar, and the garnish on the side of the rear spoiler combine to give the Tucson a drag coefficient of only 0.33.
The lower the drag coefficient, the easier a vehicle can slip through the air pushing against it. Tucson has one of the lowest drag coefficients in its segment.
COMFORT: Less drag means less wind noise on the inside, for a more comfortable interior environment.
PERFORMANCE: Less power needed to propel the vehicle through the wind.
ECONOMY: Less power means less fuel is needed to propel the vehicle.
Tell a Story: One way to demonstrate the advantages of a low drag coefficient to a customer is with a paper airplane. Make one with a sleek, tapered nose and let your customer launch it. When the nose is tapered and sleek, the plane flies through the air. Then, fold or crumple the nose and repeat the demonstration. When the plane is not as aerodynamic, it drops to the ground.
Projector headlights with LED accents (SE)
Halogen bulbs project light through a special lens instead of reflecting it from a mirror installed behind the headlight.
LED accent lights provide additional lighting.
SAFETY: Projector headlights create stronger, more focused light than conventional reflector headlights, for a better view of the road ahead.
APPEARANCE: LED accents add a contemporary, upscale look to the Tucson.
LED Daytime Running Lights(SE with Popular Equipment Package, Eco, Sport, Limited)
Running lights are always on when the engine is running.
Running lights use LEDs (light-emitting diodes) instead of more traditional bulbs.
SAFETY: Makes Tucson visible to other drivers, even during daylight hours.
APPEARANCE: Bulb sizeand placement give the front end of the vehicle a high-end, contemporary look.
ECONOMY: LEDs require less power to operate than traditional bulbs.
Return to Walkaround Menu
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE15
Feature andAvailability Function SPACCED Benefit
Automatic on/off Headlights(Standard)
Sensors monitor light levels and turn the headlights on automatically.
SAFETY: The driver always has a bright view of the road ahead—and other motorists can see the Tucson as well.CONVENIENCE: The driver doesn’t need to determine when it’s time to turn on the headlights.
LED low-beam Headlights (Limited)
LEDs illuminate the road better than halogen headlights—and they draw less power, too—22 watts per side versus 55 for a conventional halogen bulb.
SAFETY: Better visibility in driving conditions that require low-beam headlights.ECONOMY: By drawing less power, LED headlights improve fuel economy.
HID Headlights with Dynamic Bending Light (Limited with Ultimate Package)
High-Intensity-Discharge lamps make light through an electric arc, rather than a burning filament. Compared to a traditional tungsten-filament bulb, they’re able to make more visible light for every unit of electric power they consume.
Dynamic Bending Light rotates the projector as the driver steers.
ECONOMY: HID bulbs are more efficient.
SAFETY: Dynamic Bending Light illuminates corners for safer nighttime driving.
Exterior colors
Six colors are new for 2016: • Chromium Silver Metallic • Coliseum Grey Metallic • Ruby Wine Metallic • Mojave Sand Pearl • Sedona Sunset Pearl • Caribbean Blue Metallic
APPEARANCE: The wide range of exterior colors gives customers a choice to personalize the exterior of their Tucson.
Tell a Story: The exterior colors for Tucson were inspired by art, nature, fashion, interior design and other sources. Ruby Wine, for example, was inspired by the rich reds of contemporary runway models’ lipstick, while Caribbean Blue was drawn from the classic hue of the sea.
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI)(Standard)
Premium system usually found on more expensive vehicles.
ECONOMY: Efficient use of fuel and better fuel economy, without the premium price.PERFORMANCE: Better performance and cleaner exhaust emissions because more of the air/fuel mixture is burned.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE16
Feature andAvailability Function SPACCED Benefit
Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT)(Standard)
Very precisely controls when the intake and exhaust valves open and close. Tucson’s engine “breathes” differently depending on operating conditions.
Compare to trained athlete:• During a marathon: needs to breathe in and
exhale more oxygen and keep it up over a long time
• During a sprint: needs maximum oxygen for a short period
• Walking: needs less, in a steady supply• Standing still: needs very little
PERFORMANCE: Better off-the-line and passing acceleration.
ECONOMY: More efficient operation, especially while cruising, leads to excellent fuel economy, which helps to reduce the cost of ownership.
2.0-liter GDI DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine(SE)
Unlike a traditional fuel injection system, gasoline direct injection (GDI) places the fuel injector inside the combustion chamber of each cylinder, instead of in the intake runners. This means that each cylinder gets precisely the amount of fuel it needs, depending on whether the driver is idling, accelerating, coasting or braking.
Delivers 164hp @ 6,200 rpm and 151 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm.
ECONOMY: Efficiency.
PERFORMANCE: Betterperformance and drivability.
1.6-liter turbocharged GDI DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine(Eco, Sport, Limited)
More compact single-scroll turbocharger results in mass reduction.
The peak torque rating for most engines is at a specific engine speed. The Gamma engine has a flat torque curve. Its peak torque, 195 lb.-ft., is available from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm, a wide range of engine speeds.
ECONOMY: Weight is the enemy of fuel economy; reduced mass equals improved mileage.
PERFORMANCE: Delivers the fun and responsiveness of a manual transmission without having to operate a clutch pedal.
Six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift mode
Shifts gears effortlessly in fully automatic mode for best fuel economy, or driver can shift manually when desired.
ECONOMY: Fully automatic mode shifts for optimal fuel efficiency.
PERFORMANCE: Delivers the fun and responsiveness of a manual transmission without having to operate a clutch pedal.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE17
Feature andAvailability Function SPACCED Benefit
Seven-speed EcoShift® dual-clutch transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift mode
Innovative design is tuned for efficiency and features seven gears for optimum drivability.
Offers the efficiency of a manual transmission with the ease of an automatic.
The dual clutches transfer shifts back and forth without any interruption in drive power delivery.
A dual clutch system is lighter and more efficient than a traditional automatic transmission.
ECONOMY and PERFORMANCE: This automated manual transmission enables a direct connection to the engine—there’s no torque converter—for outstanding economy and uninterrupted power transfer. Gives you the best of all worlds—improved fuel economy and improved acceleration.
All-Wheel Drive with Active Cornering Control(AWD models)
Active Cornering Control can distribute the engine’s torque from left to right as well as from front to rear, to make sure the wheel that has the most grip gets the most power.
Active Cornering Control also applies braking to the inside rear wheel to improve cornering performance.
SAFETY: Excellent traction in all slippery road conditions.
PERFORMANCE: Excellent handling in dry road conditions.
Tell a Story: Use a non-automotive example to bring a technical feature to life. For instance, Active Cornering Control can be compared to paddling a canoe. Imagine the boat is moving forward and you drag the paddle blade in the water at the left rear of the boat as your partner paddles forward on the right side of the boat. The front of the boat will immediately turn left. Active Cornering Control does a similar thing—it applies braking force to the inside rear wheel and power to the outside rear wheel, to improve cornering.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE19
Position2:DRIVER’SSIDE
Feature and Availability Function SPACCED Benefit
19-inch alloy wheels(Sport and Limited)
Aluminum is lighter than steel, so alloy wheels reduce the unsprung weight of the vehicle—the amount of weight that is below the suspension’s coil springs. The lower the unsprung weight, the more smooth and stable the ride.
CONVENIENCE: The ride is smoother and more comfortable with less unsprung weight.
PERFORMANCE: The car is more stable and the handling more responsive.
Tell a Story: Have your customer run a hand over a wheel opening of the Tucson, as you point out that they’re not perfectly round. They’re asymmetrical—slightly raised toward the rear, to mimic the look of a cat ready to pounce. This small design detail contributes to the muscular, aggressive look of the Tucson.
Motor-driven power steering (MDPS)
Low-friction ball joint, increased U-joint strength, optimized steering gear tooth structure and change of gear housing type from stamped steel tube to fully integrated, one-piece aluminum combine to improve the MDPS system.
PERFORMANCE: More responsive steering.
COMFORT: Friction reduction results in a more enjoyable driving experience.
Re-engineered front suspension
Four-point bushing mounts improve comfort and reduce road noise. Increased strut rod diameter improves handling. Hydraulic rebound bump stop improves comfort over speed bumps.
COMFORT: Reduced road noise, smoother ride over speed bumps.
PERFORMANCE: Better handling.
Side mirrors Heated on all models.
CONVENIENCE: Owners in colder climates don’t have to scrape ice and snow off manually.
SAFETY: Fog is quickly removed for better visibility.
Blind-spot mirror(SE and Eco)
Provides wider view of lane adjacent to driver, to reduce the driver’s blind spot.
SAFETY: Reduces likelihood of a driver not seeing a vehicle in the adjacent lane.
LED turn signal indicators(Eco, Sport and Limited)
LED arrow on side mirror flashes when turn signal is activated.
SAFETY: Makes the Tucson visible to other drivers, especially in a lane-change situation.

Feature and Availability Function SPACCED Benefit
Door handle latch design
New design latch mechanism reduces friction, reduces pull force and increases damping force.
COMFORT: Doors open more easily and close with a solid, premium sound.
Illuminated front door handles (Sport & Ltd)
Door handles illuminate when key is nearby. CONVENIENCE: Easier to see and enter the vehicle.
Tell a Story: Add a personal touch to your descriptions of features, functions and benefits. For example, Tucson’s illuminated front door handles are like someone leaving the front porch light on for you when you get home late at night. That’s why they’re also called “welcome lights.”Power adjustable driver’s seat(SE with Popular Equipment Package, Eco, Sport, Limited)
Adjusts forward and aft; seatback angle fore and aft; front of seat cushion upward and downward; rear of seat cushion upward and downward; lumbar support increase and decrease
COMFORT: Allows drivers of almost any age or size to be comfortable behind the wheel of a Tucson.
Heated seats(Sport and Limited)
Four settings: off, low, medium and high
COMFORT: Seats can be heated to a greater or lesser degree, or not at all, depending on cabin temperature and driver preferences.
Ventilated leather front seats(Limited with Ultimate Pkg)
Cool the front seats by blowing air through small vent holes on the surface of the seat cushions and seatbacks.
COMFORT: Separate controls allow driver and front passenger to adjust seat ventilation to their personal preferences.
Tell a Story: The interior of the Tucson was designed here in the United States, at the Hyundai Design & Engineering Center in Irvine, California. The shapes of the instrument panel were inspired by the iconic Terminal 5 at Kennedy International Airport in New York. Terminal 5 was designed by legendary architect Eero Saarinen (who also designed the famed Gateway Arch in St. Louis). Saarinen himself was inspired by the image of a bird in flight. The result? A fresh, contemporary look that emphasizes the spaciousness of the Tucson’s interior.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE21

Sport Mode• Firmer steering feel• Aggressive engine & transmission tuning
ECONOMY: Combines comfortable handling with increased efficiency.
COMFORT: Combines comfortable handling with smooth and robust acceleration.
PERFORMANCE: Creates a dynamic driving experience with lively handling and forceful acceleration.
Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution
ABS modulates the brakes rapidly to help prevent them from locking up and causing a skid.
Electronic Brake Force Distribution adjusts braking levels at individual wheels for smooth, comfortable stops.
SAFETY: Helps maintain steering control in emergency stops.
SAFETY: Provides better braking control especially when the vehicle is loaded with cargo.
Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert1
(Sport and Limited)
Blind Spot Detection operates when the vehicle is traveling over 19 mph. This technology uses radar sensors located in the rear bumper that measure the relative position and speed of vehicles located up to 230 feet behind and to the side of the Tucson.
When activated, a lighted indicator on either side mirror will flash to warn the driver that another vehicle is in the car’s blind spot.
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert works when the vehicle is in reverse and is operating at speeds of less than 6 mph. System uses the rear radar sensors, and warns the driver if cars are approaching from the side when backing out of a parking space.
SAFETY: This is a great feature for any driver to have, especially in states where motorcycles can lane-share with other vehicles, or in places with lots of traffic.
SAFETY: Rear radar sensors will help detect vehicles that are not picked up by the rearview camera, to make backing up safer and less stressful.
Lane Change Assist2
(Sport and Limited)
When Blind Spot Detection is activated, Lane Change Assist uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to measure the closing speed of a vehicle in the adjacent lane. If the driver activates the turn signal and the system determines that changing lanes is not safe, it will warn the driver with both an audible and a visual alert.
SAFETY: Works in conjunction with the Blind Spot Detection system to provide an added measure of driver assistance.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE22
Feature and Availability Function SPACCED Benefit
Rear Parking Sensors3
(Limited with Ultimate Package)
Uses warning sensors embedded into the rear bumper. When the system is turned on and the vehicle is in reverse, these sensors produce a warning sound for the driver if the rear of the car gets too close to a stationary object.
SAFETY: Helps prevent vehicle from contacting objects like poles, columns or other parked cars.
Lane Departure Warning4 (Limited with Ultimate Package)
The front camera, mounted behind the inside rearview mirror, captures images of the lanes ahead of the vehicle and recognizes the lane markers. At speeds above approximately 43 mph, if the system detects the vehicle is drifting from its lane without the turn signal being engaged, it activates an audible tone and a warning light on the instrument panel.
SAFETY: Alerts the driver if the car begins to drift across the lane without using the turn signal.
Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection5
(Limited with Ultimate Package)
System uses both cameras and radar sensors. If a collision is imminent and the driver does not react, the system deploys Automatic Emergency Braking. If the vehicle is traveling between 5 and 50 mph, the system can apply full brake force stopping power, giving drivers an added element of safety and confidence. At speeds above 50 mph, the AEB system only initiates partial braking. This is to prevent unintended full braking to a stop in the middle of the highway.
SAFETY: Can brake the Tucson automatically when the system detects an imminent collision with another vehicle, an object or a pedestrian.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE23
Legal Disclaimers
1. Important: Point out to your customers that the Blind Spot Detection System and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are not a substitute for proper and safe driving practices. Always drive safely and use caution when changing lanes or backing the vehicle up. The Blind Spot Detection System may not detect every object alongside the vehicle.
2. Important: Point out to your customers that the driver must be cautious in the below situations, because the system may not detect other vehicles or objects in certain circumstances:• The vehicle drives on a curved road or through a tollgate.• The sensor is polluted with rain, snow, mud, etc.• The rear bumper where the sensor is located is covered with a foreign object such as a bumper sticker, a bumper
guard, a bike stand, etc.• The rear bumper is damaged, or the sensor is out of the original default position.• The vehicle height gets lower or higher due to heavy loading in a trunk, abnormal tire pressure, etc.• The vehicle drives in inclement weather such as heavy rain or snow.• There is a fixed object near the vehicle, such as a guardrail.• A big vehicle is near such as a bus or truck.• A motorcycle or bicycle is near.• A flat trailer is near.• If the vehicle has started at the same time as the vehicle next to you and has accelerated.• When the other vehicle passes at a very fast speed.• While changing lanes.• While going down or up a steep road where the height of the lane is different.• When the other vehicle approaches very close.• When a trailer or carrier is installed.• When the temperature of the rear bumper is high.• When the sensors are blocked by the other vehicles, walls or parking-lot pillars.• When the detected vehicle also moves back, as your vehicle drives back.• If there are small objects in the detecting area such as a shopping cart or a baby carriage.• If there is a low height vehicle such as a sports car.• When other vehicles are close to your vehicle.• When the vehicle in the next lane moves two lanes away from you OR when the vehicle two lanes away moves to
the next lane from you.• When driving through a narrow road with many trees or bushes.
3. Important: Point out to your customers that the rearview camera is not a safety device. It only serves to assist the driver in identifying objects directly behind the middle of the vehicle. The camera does not cover the complete area behind the vehicle. • Never rely solely on the rearview camera when backing up. • Always look around your vehicle to make sure there are no objects or obstacles before moving the vehicle in any
direction to prevent a collision.• Always pay close attention when the vehicle is driven close to objects, particularly pedestrians, and especially
children.• Always keep the camera lens clean. The camera may not work normally if the lens is covered with dirt or snow.
4. Important: Point out to your customers that the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) may operate prematurely even if the vehicle does not depart from the intended lane, or the LDWS may not warn you if the vehicle leaves the intended lane under the following circumstances: • The lanes ahead are not visible due to rain, snow, water on the road, damaged or stained road surface, or other
factors• The brightness outside changes suddenly such as when entering or exiting a tunnel• The brightness outside is too low such as when the headlamps are not on at night or the vehicle is going through a
tunnel• It is difficult to distinguish the lane marking from the road surface or the lane marking is faded or not clearly
marked• Driving on a steep grade or over a hill, or when driving on a curved road• When light coming from a street light or an oncoming vehicle is reflected on a wet road surface such as a puddle in
the road• The windshield or the LDWS camera lens is blocked with dirt or debris
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE24
5. Important: Point out to your customers that the Automatic Emergency Braking system is designed to detect and monitor the vehicle ahead or detect a pedestrian in the roadway through radar signals and camera recognition. It is not designed to detect bicycles, motorcycles, or smaller wheeled objects such as luggage bags, shopping carts, or strollers. The sensor may be limited when:• The pedestrian is not fully detected by the camera recognition system, for example, if the pedestrian is leaning
over or is not fully walking upright• The pedestrian is moving very quickly or appears abruptly in the camera detection area • The pedestrian is wearing clothing that easily blends into the background, making it difficult to be detected by the
camera recognition system • The outside lighting is too bright (for example, when driving in bright sunlight or in sun glare) or too dark (for exam-
ple, when driving on a dark rural road at night)• There is an item similar to a person’s body structure• The pedestrian is small• The pedestrian has impaired mobility• It is difficult to detect and distinguish the pedestrian from other objects in the surroundings (for example, when
there is a group of pedestrians or a large crowd)
Never try to test the operation of the AEB system. Doing so may cause severe injury or death.

The new design decreases the weight of the wheelhouse assembly by 6% and increases its stiffness by 109%.
COMFORT: Road noise is reduced dramatically, while ride comfort and vehicle handling are also improved.
Tell a Story: The inside of a wheel well is like the inside of a bell. When road debris hits it, it reverberates the same way a bell does when struck by a clapper. But Hyundai’s world-first dual-member rear wheel housing effectively adds a layer of insulation between the “bell” and the inside of the Tucson, for a quieter ride.
THE 2016 TUCSON EXPERIENCE28
Feature and Availability Function SPACCED Benefit
Advanced high-strength steel
Used in 51% of the Tucson’s unibody (vs. 18% for previous Tucson). Lighter than “general” or “mild” steel.
Stronger than conventional steel, resulting in a body that’s 48% more rigid than the previous model
ECONOMY: Lighter weight improves fuel efficiency.
COMFORT: A more rigid body has less twist and flex when forces are transmitted from the suspension, such as during cornering or driving on uneven road surfaces.
SAFETY: The less a vehicle twists on uneven roads or when cornering at speed, the safer its road characteristics are.
DURABILITY: A more rigid body now means fewer rattles later.
Application of structural adhesives
Structural adhesives (over 335 feet in the Tucson) instead of spot or tack welding:
• Reduce vehicle weight
• Reduce vibration • Improve acoustics
• Improve the stiffness of the body for better handling.
ECONOMY: Reduced weight improves fuel efficiency.
COMFORT: Reduced vibration, enhanced acoustics, and improved body rigidity result in a quieter, more comfortable drive.

Tell a Story: Get your customer physically involved with the vehicle. If you’re showing a Tucson with beige cloth seats, have your customer spill a small amount of black coffee or another dark liquid on a seat. Then have them blot it up with a dry cloth, gently wipe with a wet cloth, and finally blot dry to show how YES Essentials® fabric resists stains.
