In teaching English for Senior High School Students, Reading text
become the material which must be taught for the students. There are many kinds
of text type. Report text, Narrative text, Analytical Exposition, Spoof text,
Hortatory Exposition kinds of genre . Most of the students still cannot understand
the simple genre taught by their teacher especially the Eleventh Grade Students of
SMA 2 Kudus. They are still confused how to analyze the generic structure
correctly. Many of them cannot distinguish each of generic structure in a genre.
Their limitation of genre knowledge makes them can not recognize the kind of
genre and the students still difficult to understand the kind of genre. Based on the
background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “ The Ability of
Identifying Generic Structure of Reading Texts of the Eleventh Grade Students of
SMA 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2013/2014”.
The purpose of the research is to find out the extent of the ability of
analyzing the generic structure of reading text of the Eleventh Grade Students of
SMA 2 Kudus in Academic year 2013/2014 and what are the difficulties of
students in analyzing the generic structure of reading text of the Eleventh Grade
Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic year 2013/2014.
This research is quantitative descriptive research. The subject of the
research is the Eleventh grade students of Class XI Science 4 consist of 30
students of SMA 2 Kudus.
The result of this research shows that the result of analyzing the generic
structure of reading text test that was given to the sample of the eleventh grade
students, the value of mean is 72,6 and standard deviation is5,18. it means, The
ability of Identifying Generic Structure of Reading Text of the Eleventh Grade
Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2013/2014 is categorized as good.
The difficulties of students of The highest precentage is 90 % in identifying
hortatory exposition text and the Lowest percentage is 3,33 %. So, the students
still can not understand well about hortatory exposition.
Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer
suggests that The teacher should give the clear explanation about the generic
structure of genre, giving the example of analyzingof every text is also important
to improve students’ mastery in reading text. Teacher should pay attention in it, in
order to get the maximal result in examination. The students should study more
about genre especially generic structure of the reading text.

Dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris di SMA, Bentuk teks menjadi materi
yang harus diajarkan kepada siswa. Ada banyak jenis teks. Report teks, Narrative
teks, Analytical exposition teks, Spoof text, Hortatory exposition teks adalah jenis
Teks Bacaan. Kebanyakan siswa masih tidak memahami simpel genre yang
diajarkan oleh guru khususnya di Kelas Sebelas di SMA 2 Kudus.Mereka masih
bingung bagaimana menganalisis struktur umum dengan benar. Banyak dari
mereka tidak bisa membedakan tiap struktur umum pada genre.Pembatasan pada
pengetahuan genre membuat mereka tidak dapat mengenali jenis – jenis genre dan
siswa masih kesulitan untuk memahami jenis – jenis genre.Berdasarkan latar
belakang masalah diatas, penulis ingin melakukan penelitian dengan judul
“Kemampuan Mengidentifikasi Struktur Umum pada Teks Bacaan pada siswa
Kelas Sebelas pada SMA 2 Kudus Tahun Pelajaran 2013/2014”.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan
menganalisis Struktur Umum pada Teks Bacaan Siswa kelas Sebelas di SMA 2
Kudus Tahun Pelajaran 2013/2014 dan apa kesulitan siswa dalam menganalisis
Struktur Umum pada Teks Bacaan Siswa Kelas Sebelas di SMA 2 Kudus Tahun
Pelajaran 2013/2014.
Penelitian ini adalah Deskriptif Kuantitatif.Subyek dari penelitian ini
adalah Siswa kelas Sebelas IPA 4 terdiri dari 30 siswa di SMA 2 Kudus.
Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil dari analisis tes struktur
umum pada teks bacaan yang telahdiberikan kepada siswa kelas sebelas.Nilai rata
– rata adalah 72,6 dan standar deviasi adalah 5,18. Itu berarti “Kemampuan
Mengidentifikasi Struktur Umum pada Teks Bacaan pada Siswa Kelas sebelas
pada SMA 2 Kudus Tahun Pelajaran 2013/2014 kategorinya adalah baik.
Prosentase kesulitan siswa adalah 90 % di dalam mengidentifikasi hortatory
exposition.Prosentase terendah adalah 3,33 %. Jadi, siswa masih kesulitan
memahami hortatory exposition teks.
Mempertimbangkan proses dan hasil penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan
bahwa guru harus memberikan penjelasan yang jelas tentang struktur umumpada
genre, dengan memberikan contoh menganalisis setiap teks juga penting untuk
memperbaiki kemampuan siswa di dalam teks bacaan. Guru seharusnya
memberikan perhatian di dalamnya, di dalam mendapatkan hasil ujian yang
maksimal. Siswa seharusnya belajar lebih dalam lagi tentang Reading teks
khususnya Struktur Umum pada teks bacaan.
