Jesus' request to remain silent in this week's gospel is in connection to miracles. A miracle is a grace of God that is given as an answer to faith. A solid, consistent and true faith does not depend on miracles. It manifests and sustains itself in its purity of conviction and its ability to persevere. It is not carried away by extraordinary signs, theophany or out of the ordinary manifestations, challenging science, human expectations or local culture. A gift from God can enrich the existing faith and it is given as a testimony of the Lord's power. But this does not define God, nor should it define our faith, our response to God himself. A miracle is the product of unconditional belief in God and his power. It is faith that lovingly moves the hand of God to do justice and prowess for the benefit of his children. Hence, Christ is not interested in people believing in him for his prowess. He did not want the children of God to know that he was the Messiah because of his reputation, fame or ability to do extraordinary things. He himself had indicated that he who believed could move mountains and even raise the dead. His desire was not for people to believe in favors that he granted or in wonderful shows. Jesus wanted and wants people to have faith and that it doesn’t depend on anything external. That is why he exhorts the deaf and stuttering man not to tell anyone. But we should not limit this event to the physical plane. How many deaf and spiritual stutterers do not wander the world! Beings that do not want to hear the voice of the Lord in their lives or that pretend not to hear it because it is easier to live in the darkness of the absence of God and in the silence of our response to Him. There are also beings who have had their voice and do not have the will to speak and to do justice. They stutter, hesitate to do their Father's things. From this, liberation is needed. It is necessary to break with the chains that bind the human being to give the best possible response to our Father God. And this does not imply a miracle. Only a strengthened faith, intentional and firm in knowing that "nothing is impossible for God".

La petición de Jesús en guardar silencio en el evangelio de esta semana yace en conexión al concepto de los milagros. Un milagro es una gracia de Dios que se da como respuesta a la fe. Una fe sólida, consistente y verdadera no depende de milagros. Se manifiesta y se sostiene en su pureza de convencimiento y en su capacidad de perseverar. No se deja llevar por signos extraordinarios, teofanías o manifestaciones fuera de lo común, desafiando la ciencia, las expectativas humanas o la cultura local. Un regalo de Dios puede enriquecer la fe ya existente y el mismo se da como testimonio del poder del Señor. Pero esto no define a Dios, ni debería definir nuestra fe, nuestra respuesta a Dios mismo. Un milagro es el producto de la creencia

incondicional en Dios y en su poder. Es la fe la que amorosamente mueve la mano de Dios a hacer justicia y proezas para el beneficio de sus hijos. De ahí que Cristo no está

interesado en que la gente creyese en él por sus proezas. No deseaba que los hijos de Dios supieran que él era el Mesías por su reputación, fama o capacidad de hacer cosas extraordinarias. Él mismo había indicado que aquel que creyese podía mover montañas y hasta resucitar muertos. Su deseo no era que la gente creyese por favores que concediera o espectáculos maravillosos. Jesús quería y quiere que la gente tenga fe y que la misma no

dependiese de nada. De ahí que exhorta al sordo y tartamudo que no se lo dijera a nadie. Pero no deberíamos limitar este evento al plano físico.

¡Cuántos sordos y tartamudos espirituales no divagan por el mundo! Seres que no quieren escuchar la voz del Señor en sus vidas o que pretenden no escucharla porque es más fácil vivir en la oscuridad de la ausencia de Dios y en el silencio de nuestra respuesta a Él. También hay seres a quienes se les ha quitado la voz y no tienen la voluntad de hablar y de hacerse justicia. Tartamudean, titubean para hacer las cosas de su Padre. De esto se necesita liberación. Se necesita romper con las cadenas que atan al ser humano para dar la mejor respuesta posible a nuestro Padre Dios. Y esto no implica un milagro. Solo una fe fortalecida, intencional y firme en saber que “para Dios nada es imposible”.

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 16th. The 2018 theme will be "Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Right of Christian Initiation for Adults RCIA is designed for those who are considering joining the Catholic Church through celebrating the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. The process welcomes adults who have never been baptized or have been baptized in another Christian tradition, and those who have been baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and need to receive one of the sacraments of initiation. RCIA classes begin Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in room 301 of the Monsignor Thiele Center. El proceso da la bienvenida a adultos que nunca han sido bautizados o han sido bautizados en otra tradición Cristiana, y aquellos que han sido bautizados en la Iglesia Católica Romana y necesitan recibir uno de los sacramentos de la iniciación. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent a visible symbol of our prayers and presence.

Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. For more information on how to request a prayer shawl please contact the parish office, 773-278-4808.

El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación. Message from Cardinal Blaze Cupich Dear Parishioners of St. Aloysius, I regret to inform you that Father Edwin Giraldo Cortes, of the Diocese of Soacha, Colombia, who served briefly at your parish while visiting the United States, from August 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018, was arrested yesterday by the Miami Police Department. The charges are lewd behavior and indecent exposure and involve an adult male. Father Giraldo Cortes was granted faculties for one month based on the recommendation and representations of his bishop, Most Reverend Jose Daniel Falla Robles of the Diocese of Soacha, Columbia, who testified to his good standing and fidelity to his ordination promises and that he had no impediments to ministry. Father Giraldo Cortes does not currently have faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago. We are committed to ensuring the priests who serve in our diocese are fit for ministry and take this situation seriously. The people of St. Aloysius are in my prayers. Father Claudio Diaz will communicate if there are further developments that impact the parish. Edwin Giraldo Cortes, he was granted faculties here at St. Aloysius in August 1st to the 31st. He stayed with us for 4 days while he was being interviewed by the Archdiocese of Chicago for the possibilities of having a pastoral experience with the local Church. He didn’t preside over any sacrament, liturgy, pastoral event or of any other kind. After his brief stay, he went back to Rockford. We remain together in prayer making sure that we work for the common good of the people of God.

Mensaje del Cardenal Blaze Cupich Estimados feligreses de San Luis Gonzaga, Lamento informarles que el Reverendo Edwin Giraldo Cortés, de la Diócesis de Soacha, Colombia, quien sirvió brevemente en su parroquia mientras visitaba Estados Unidos del 1 de agosto de 2018 al 31 de agosto de 2018, fue arrestado el 3 de septiembre de 2018 por el Departamento de Policía del Condado de Miami-Dade. Los cargos son comportamiento lascivo y exposición indecente e involucran a un hombre adulto.
