• Provide plenty of reassurance and comfort, both in words and touch.• Try distracting with a snack or activity.• Avoid reminding them that they just asked the same question, and attempt to change the

subject. • Don’t discuss plans with a confused person until immediately prior to the event.• You may want to try placing a written reminder on the kitchen table, such as,

STRATFORD SENIOR MEN’S CLuB NEWS – AuguST, 2011ON TAP – The Stratford Senior Men’s Club will meet on Friday, August 5th and Friday, August 19th; at 9:00 A.M. Our renowned and relentless Vice-President in charge of finding speakers, Harry Tashjian, has come up with two outstanding presenters. On August 5th we will hear from Eileen Lopez-Cardone, from the U.I. She will give us some fresh ideas on energy conservation and answer our questions on this public utility.

On August 19th we will hear from a representative of Fisher House. A Fisher House is a “home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The Stratford Senior Men’s Club is open to all gentlemen over 55. Please come and join us and learn about this friendly, cordial and enlightened group.MAYHEM IN THE A.M. – Two athletes face-off against two opposing athletes every thirty minutes starting at 8:40 A.M. at the Bocce Arena outside the Baldwin Center on Tuesdays. Attempting to control the mayhem and the intense and fierce competition, and still staying above the fray, is the official in charge, Don Palazzo, constantly on the alert to prevent skullduggery among opponents. Surviving this month’s battles with grit and determination to remain undefeated is the team of Ray Madar and Walt Radzwill. Tied for second place is the team of Al Dancho and Ron Tardif and the team of Ed Cranston and Walt Dunbar. Tied for third place is the team of Lou DiGirolamo and Joe Saladino and the team of Bernie Sosnoski and George Swanson.ON THE RIgHT SIDE OF THE gRASS – August birthday salutations are extended to SSMC members Walt Dunbar, Anthony Martello, Dale McClanan, Stan Myers and Allen Roy.IN THE ROugH – If you are interested in playing golf with fellow SSMC members, contact one another by phone or at one of our scheduled Friday meetings.COOKS DAY OFF – The guys took their gorgeous gals (cooks) out for a sumptuous meal at Augustyn’s Blue Goose Restaurant for our 17th Annual Ladies Luncheon. Everyone had a wonderful time with lots of laughs and first class banter. Thanks and appreciation go to the man who organized this event, our astounding and astonishing Special Events Planner, Donald Coulson.WEEKEND WARRIORS – From 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. teams of SSMC members set-up, served and broke down the pizza concession stand for Stratford’s Main Street Festival. We sold 816 slices of pizza along with gallons of orange drink. Our amazing and feisty President, Peter Jastermsky, led the way, working the entire day. Grateful appreciation is extended to Peter and to the large number of members who worked and sweated on that day for the benefit of the Baldwin Center.REFEREE OF ROMANCE – To help get us ready for the high school, college and pro football seasons, here are some romantic situations in which you need to call the football penalty. 1. A guy barges in while his friend is making amorous moves on his girl. As referee, what penalty do you call? Pass interference!2. A handsome eligible man enters a room of single ladies. As referee, what do you signal? Fair catch!3. A guy forgets to shave before kissing his girl friend. As referee, what do you call?Unnecessary roughness!
